So about this Hurricane - 10/7 Dream cancelled, 10/7 Magic Canadian, 10/8 now 10/9 Fantasy 6-night

Just got off the Magic, heard they have less than 1000 guests left after all the cancellations. Wish we could just jump back on board (probably get a great deal)!

Me too!! We just got home from the magic and wished we were able to stay and go north again. Heard they are going to overnight in Halifax, would have loved to have done that!

Our porter told us there were 1,000 cancellations and he was glad because his back was hurting. :\
Also, DS told me he heard a CM say they will overnight in Halifax. Not sure if this is true.

Yes, they will do an overnight in Halifax:

I would love to visit eastern Canada this time of year. We've done it twice and enjoyed the fall foliage. We have a friend in New Brunswick who drove us around for the grand tour.

Thank you for posting. What is it like onboard? We were supposed to go, but cancelled yesterday. We did the Canadian itinerary with them in 2012, and we were so looking forward to heading south this time. I know it is a beautiful day in NYC, and I hope you continue to have great weather.

How empty is it? What is the general mood onboard of the passengers and the crew?

Have a great trip!

Thank you, but I got off this morning. The irony is that I wanted to do today's sailing and was out voted by my family who preferred going to Canada.
I was at GS yesterday morning and was talking to the CM about how our ship was rocking and I said to him how worse it would be on the next sailing to Florida. He told me then that they cancelled that itinerary and would head back to Canada. He was wary of the upset people he may have to deal with. Many CMs were looking forward to heading back to warm weather having just left Europe. A couple of CMs from the Caribbean asked us to pray for people in those parts.I'm sure they were worried for their families.
It seemed to be business as usual when we disembarked. Much cleaning and such going on.

Port Canaveral still looks pretty windy and a bit rough (5:48EST) on the webcam. But no waves really. No activity, although the webcam is panning around. Birds flying by. And everything seems okay.

Correct. If you read the Terms & Conditions that you agreed to when you booked, you'll find that DCL doesn't even guarantee that you'll leave port to start the cruise. And they have to power to change the itinerary at any time.

I believe the Magic class ships are the largest that can dock there (at the Navy dock). And DCL has docked at the Mole dock (on the Truman Waterfront. The Navy base - Access is restricted and requires passage through a security check point for all cruise passengers.

They won't give you like a raincheck or anything?

Carnival is really pushing hard to have it's Saturday cruises ... they still don't know what is going to happen. If Carnival does delay the cruises, they are going to have some really upset customers since they waited so long. Of course, they may still be able to dock on Saturday. I really can't believe that they are waiting so long. Disney a couple of days ago decided to delay the Fantasy to Sunday. At least folks could plan a little better. And Look ... the Valor is going to double dip in Nassau. Bet that will really be popular.

Carnival Magic – 10/8/16 departure
Hurricane Matthew has now passed the Port Canaveral area and officials will be completing their post storm assessments as soon as conditions are safe. If the port reopens tomorrow, we plan to operate our scheduled itinerary.

We will provide you another update by 10:00 AM on Saturday.

Carnival Valor – 10/8/16 departure
Hurricane Matthew has now passed the Port Canaveral area. Officials in Port Canaveral and in the Bahamas will be completing their post storm assessments as soon as conditions are safe. If the port reopens tomorrow, we plan to operate our 5 day cruise with a two day call to Nassau. Depending on the conditions in Freeport and the long term track of the storm, we may be able to add a visit there later in the week.

Given the impact to your itinerary, we will be posting a 50.00 USD per person credit to your onboard Sail & Sign account for your enjoyment. Additionally, we would like to invite you on another 2-5 day Carnival cruise where we will gladly apply a 25% cruise discount* to your next reservation.

We will provide you another update by 10:00 AM on Saturday.

The Dream seems to be just south of Key West and the Fantasy is just leaving Cozumel. So it seems they did not meet up.

Hello from the Dream again- thanks for all of your positive messages- today I stayed away from the news and felt better.

Here is the update- the captain has purposefully steered us within cell range of Key West (port side only). We will be docking in port canaveral between noon and six tomorrow but we are allowed to "hotel" on the Dream tomorrow night! (Many people can't get hotels or flights for Saturday.) We will have a "sea day" itinerary and OPEN SEATING for dinner (what, is this DCL!?) in Royal Palace for dinner.
All bags have to be out by midnight tonight (customs not DCL rule) but we will carry off on Sunday. Tomorrow they will allow people off the ship to check on cars and then back on! Disney is paying the crew gratuites for the extra nights (I asked as I felt bad)..
Headed to the show for the cruise director/captains nightly updates (although they have done MANY ship-wide annoucements).
I've saved all of my navigators to upload later and will be willing to answer any questions.
They did make us fill out a form by 6 to say if we were staying Saturday or not and I stopped by guest services and everyone's still pretty calm.
Thanks!!!!

Just off the Magic. Last night DH and I were having a drink in Cove Cafe before dinner and there was a group of what I assumed to be officers (most were were wearing white) over in the corner. We weren't necessarily eavesdropping by couldn't help but overhear the gist of their conversation. Basically they were talking about what they were going to do keep some possibly disgruntled passengers happy due to the change in itinerary. Our head server told us what others have mentioned above that over 1000 passengers had cancelled. It should certainly be an interesting cruise for those that chose to carry on. You should have the ship to yourselves and I imagine DCL is going to go out of their way to keep you entertained.

St. John and Halifax were beautiful, the weather was terrific, seas were smooth as glass on our cruise. Here's to hoping you all have a wonderful and safe week ahead.

Thanks for the update. Good to know that DCL is treating you and the crew right. Seems like the crew will get a bit of a break since they will have a whole 24 hours to prepare for the next load of guests.

That sounds like a good solution in bad circumstances.
I'm wishing everyone that they will find their cars, and houses and what they left behind undamaged. But most importantly, your families are safe.

One last update- the captain said at the show that we couldn't meet the Fantasy once they added another day.
Also we took on 1/2 a million gallons of ballast so that the trip back would be smoother and we will be sailing VERY close to the shore- (to avoid the rough seas). We got quite a lesson tonight in sea levels and water and wind- it's actually been fascinating each night to listen to the captain share his expertise. I have some cool photos of him in the WD theater on stage with the hurricane on the big screen in the background- not very typical!!
I'm looking forward to tomorrow but apparently we will have to disembark and come back on and then be off Sunday morning by 7am (possibly earlier) so the Fantasy can come in.
Again, Disney has done the best job they possibly could. I have some friends on a carnival right now and their FB posts make me soooo glad we did this.
I booked my placeholder tonight- my kids deserve to go to CC for being troupers through all of this. Wish they would give us a bit of a discount on a future cruise (Royal is doing this for the enchantment which had almost an identical itinerary and changes). But I am 99% satisfied with all they have done given the circumstances!

It doesn't surprise me, a 'social media' group for my 10/29 cruise has had a HUGE influx of people that have rebooked from the 10/07 sailing. Looks like it's going to be a full ship now.
