So…progressive lenses…tell me all about them.

I've had mine at least 10 years, it did take awhile at first. For small print (like a newspaper), I do take them off.

Before getting progressive lenses I would wear my regular glasses and put readers over them to be able to read a book. I think I got used to them that way and had no trouble when I gave in and got the progressives. Instead of sunglasses I have transition lenses. Saves me from changing back and forth.

I have the transitions on my progressive lenses also. But they don't get dark enough for me. So I also got progressive sunglasses. The issue is in the car, transitions don't work. As we drive on long trips, I need something that's actually dark for driving in the mid-day sun.

My first pair of progressives it took me a couple of weeks to adjust...felt slightly nauseous during that time. But, I stuck with it, and now it's no problem at all. Each "new" pair since then, of course, is slightly different than the prior pair, so there is a small adjustment period till they feel "normal" to me. Maybe a couple of days? My sunglasses and regular glasses are both from Costco, with the same prescription. They give you $30-40 off, depending on the special they are running, on the second pair. I was out the door for $350, both pairs. Great price! I've paid that much WITH insurance benefits for a single pair somewhere else. Grrrrr. I love their flat pricing...not extra for this coating or that, etc.

Very true they don't change in the car. I don't take long road trips so it hasn't been an issue but I can imagine it would be annoying.

I've began wearing single-vision glasses/contacts at age 16. I got my first pair of progressive lenses last year at age 43. It took me about a month to get used to them. Although, I didn't start by wearing them all the time. I started with just a few minutes, and added more time each day until I no longer felt myself "working" at it. Especially while driving.

As of right now, I still have single-vision contacts, correcting my distance vision. I wear my glasses most of the time, but I can still drive in the contacts, and I will wear them to our local amusement park, or to Disney. My only issue comes in if I have to read something in front of me. In which case I have to either take my glasses off and read with 1 eye closed, have my kids read it to me, or have one of them hold it far enough away that I can read it. LOL
