Snowed in, tell me

I live in a rural part of VA, Cumberland and b/c of all the back roads school was out all this past week b/c of the snow last saturday and it looks like they will be out most of this coming week as well. Unfortunately for us, our power just went out and the power company said it may be on tonight or a few days from now. Luckily, we have 4x4 truck and we can leave thank goodness b/c we will not survive in here without power esp with me being prego and constantly hungry. We were gonna hang out watch a lil tv and clean today but now trying to figure out which family members house we will end up at. Maybe we will go to my moms and plan the rest of my upcoming baby shower.:goodvibes

I still love the snow tho and I hope everyone has a lovely snowy day.:lovestruc

Just wanted to wish you all safe, cozy snowed in days. As long as you have power and food be thankful. We were in the Kentucky ice storm last year. Thank God that my Dad was able to travel to another state to find kerosene and a generator. It was very scary at times. We knew how serious it was when the national guard showed up at our door and tagged our mailbox. I now value things like a warm shower more than I ever did before! :)

Take care of your families and always stay stocked up on necessities! I know that we will now!

Buried in Northern VA, too. I was supposed to be volunteering at my swim team's swim meet but it was cancelled. So instead I've watched movies with my son, helped shovel the driveway and gotten dinner in the crock pot. I think of it was a really good dry land workout. I'm about to head out for round 2 of shoveling. Then I think we'll make brownies.

I live in Ohio and we are snowed in with only about 6-8 inches and I have a friend from upstate NY who thinks it is ridiculous that things come to a standstill in such little snow around here.

I know that places like Ontario and Michigan and Denver handle snow like that overnight and it is no big deal but that is because it happens often. Snow like this in Ohio and DC, VA and MD are not common and it would be a foolish budget item to keep the resources on hand to handle it overnight.

We get a big snow maybe once or twice a year (and that is 6 - 8 inches) so it isn't a big deal if we shut down for a day or two. But in places where it happens all the time - shutting down your city that often would be really bad.

So give us a break - we are actually being budget minded by not keeping unneccessary resources on hand.

We are all recovering from being sick at our house so I see a lot of games and movies today!

Are you in Southern Ohio as I know many in Northern Ohio that would not consider 6 to 8 inches a big deal? Just curious. I laugh here when people start complaining about a couple of inches of snow as I grew up in Michigan so the stuff Ky sees is nothing.

I am in southern ohio - the snow we got today happens just only once or twice a year. But we are all cleared out and ready to go now!

we have 20" of snow!!

I'm catching up on laundry & house work, and I will be studying (but so far have managed to watch a lot of stuff on DVR and a movie online :rolleyes1)

Okay so you are more with the snow here in Ky which does seem to close everything with just a couple of inches. We only got about an inch and still got to have basketball. Out of 5 weeks of games our league has had to cancel twice because of the last 2 snowfalls.

DS turned three yesterday. Our last name is Frost and we were going to name him Jack as he was born on a snowy day in 2007. But we decided not to name him Jack Frost, today I am reconsidering, LOL. We were supposed to be heading to Great Wolf lodge in Williamsburg but decided to postpone and not get stuck. We had a PJ day, with taco soup, hot dogs and lots of snacks. Laundry is still being done and car is out and cleaned off.

I hope the kids go back to school on Monday! I am a nurse and I can not stand that the (private = no buses) schools and daycares being closed! Some of us still have to work, no matter what.

I'm ealing with it in my one way. Drove an hour to drop dh of at SIL and BIL's house to help them tear up and replace the floors and cabinets in their house due to a water leak. Picked up my nephew and neice, headed home. 15 minutes form home Dh called and said...come get me, gotta go out on storm. Turned around, drove back, picked up DH (waited on SIL to get permission to keep the kids overnite so I didn't have to drive back again), stopped and got DH new work boots and socks, came home, helped in pack, watched kids all evening, did 2 homework assignments, booked dining for our October/now possibly moving to May trip and finally got in bed, well on the computer. Busy day.

DH and crew (power line crew) made it to Knoxville, TN before they stopped for the noght. Will be driving straight through to either Baltimore, MD or Cesapeake Bay, Va or near there. So help is on the way, hang in there. :cheer2:

I know it bites but I must say that this storm may pay for our trip to WDW. Income tax is paying off all cc's, 401k loan, tires on the cars, gravel, and $$ for savings with 1/2 of our trip $$ left over. So I gotta say, I love snow

Let me just say this also...I obviously want no one to get hurt, or their property to get damaged. But I will but my flame suit on, just in case.

Middlesex County, NJ - about 6 inches so far and now just flurries and a nasty wind (just like they predicted yesterday). Friend of mine in Wayne, NJ didn't even get one flake yet.

Just got in from shoveling. Only plans for today are to drive to local NJ Transit station and head into NYC for the NY Rangers hockey game!!!:cool1:

We are in Rutherford and we got nothing! We were also @ the game! My GF has season tix BUT I am a Devils fan so I was not too happy with the results! Section 415 rules!

South Jersey here. Got about 2 ft again and just saw on the news we are in for at least a foot again on Wednesday! I think my kids are annoyed by the snow already. Regular school day today, not even a delayed opening. Last storm in Dec. we had three days off!!

I'm with you, Frostymom. I had to work all weekend, and it makes a 12 hour shift all the more grueling when you have to fight the snow to and from. Arggg, and I always seem to be scheduled whenever we get a snowstorm. :headache:

But I've enjoyed reading everyone's stories of family game time and casseroles and warm yummy bread coming out of the oven. Wish I could be snowed in!!! Have fun digging out, everyone!

It sucks to be the one snowed in at the hospital but around here if they need you, they will not let you leave. I love getting paid to sleep! But now I do home care. I will only get paid for the visits I make. This time it is not just about getting out to see the patients but if there is way to get into their homes to see them, or a place to park my car. The amount of money I make per visit is just not enough to cover an accident or injury to myself. There are streets that have not been touched by a plow yet. Oh and all this...another 5 inches tomorrow night.

I am still looking for some childcare for this week. I am sure the public schools will be closed the rest of the week, so will our daycare. I will have to pay double for childcare because of this.

We're expected to get 8-12" around here tomorrow into Wednesday morning. The 8" won't be so bad, but 12" is more troublesome. I'm guessing there won't be school on Wednesday, so I'm planning on having the kids here all day. Planning some movies, baking and playing DS games.

The kids will love this week, since snow day on Wednesday, Thursday Valentines party and the kids are off Friday and next Monday for winter break.

I have my 5 year old home now because she's sick with stuffy head, runny eyes and she's just miserable

I feel for those who are getting pounded again by this storm we'll be getting tomorrow. I've heard this next one is moving slowly, so those in Philadelphia and DC stay safe and warm.

Same forecast for here as well. I'm going today to get some food for Wednesday. Same school schedule also. I want Spring to get here!

We're supposed to get hit with the storm coming tomorrow. 5-10 more inches... But heck on top of 25-30 inches, thats nothing!:rotfl: The kids had a snow day today and are off Friday-President's day, so I'm guessing they'll have no school all week... :scared1: I just hope the roads are all cleared and safe on Friday as we're heading to WDW for my birthday!

Everyone be safe and stay warm!
