I'm in the enviable position of working at a job where I have the whole winter off, from Christmas until March 21st. Soon, I'll be purchasing a motor home of one type or another, for the sole purpose of making FW my winter (or a portion thereof) home. So, what I need to know is...what sort of home do I need? Do I need a/c? Should I purchase my own golf cart? It will most likely be just me most of the time, with the occasional visit from husband and grown children (2, no grandkids). Is it safe for a woman alone? Is it fun?(OK, dumb question! :rotfl: ). Is it way too expensive? Do others just camp, and avoid the parks during the busy season? Annual Passes, I assume? Any insight would be helpful.

I was hoping you would get some replies. I am really interested in this subject. I would so love to be planning just this same future. :) I can answer a few of your questions however.

If I were planning on staying an extended time in a motorhome, I would make sure that I had a bed apart from the living area. We have a small travel trailer and lose our sofa and our table when it's time to sleep. Very inconvenient. And when you have others camping with you, it would be so nice to be able to have a private sleeping area.

Definitely! The weather in FL is so crazy. We've been many times in December and we can go from using our heater one night to the AC the next day.

That is a very personal decision. No one can really answer that for you. We always bring our bikes and have never rented a cart, so it is possible to vacation at FW without a cart. I wouldn't know about staying there indefinitely. :-) Remember also that you will need a way to haul the cart around with you on the way to and from WDW.

You answered your own question....hehe.

Hi, i'm not a snow bird but i am a stay at home mom. During the summer my DH drove our RV to the Fort and i stayed there alone with my young kids. I felt safe and had no problems. It was August and the place was empty. I had a cell phone and dogs but i never got nervous. I was there 2 weeks and then was ready to come home. I do not think i could spend the whole winter alone. We have a 40 ft. luxury RV but still missed the comfort of home.

On a side note:

I was in the pool one winter and heard a man telling the life guard that he worked in Epcot during the winter while camping at the Fort. I told DH that is our future.

:cool1:

I never even asked, but is the campground even open in the winter?
