On the same day that WDW opens an uneeded hotel they close a historic opening day attraction for a Princess meet and greet.

I would be less concerned about closing Snow White if they were only replacing it with something more substantial. However, if there must be a princess meet-n-greet (and it would seem that there must, based on the length of lines we've seen in the past), then Fantasyland is the best fit.

The Coaster that is being built seems pretty substantial to me?
And it is going in an area that was going to be for some of the princesses in the original FLE plans... I am excited about the Mine Train, even if it's a minor coaster... Will I miss SWSA Yah! But I will enjoy the new coaster maybe more... Only Time will tell

I just got back from MK, its a zoo, and Snow White's wait was the highest I've seen in years at around 60 minutes. Although I didn't ride it today, I will miss it simply for its nostalgia, and I just don't see why closing it is really necessary, because its pretty simple to have two snow white rides. At least, I don't see anything wrong with it...

I have to call foul on this...

the coaster...if completed...is a substantial upgrade over a dated flatride...as they have numerous others...including the new expensive little mermaid one...as more than adequate substitutes...

as far as the art of animation..."unneeded" isn't relevant.

they will increase rooms to attempt to increase park/ shopping capacity and increase revenue...that is 100% certain and they have never made bones about it.

so while it's greedy and cutthroat...it can't be labeled as sneaky or a conspiracy.

The foul was that they broke ground n POP century to attempt to exploit an unfinished park that didn't deserve the amount of rooms - animal kingdom...the theme was a bust...and they didn't follow through until now.

that is their fault...but from the pictures i've seen - it would appear that the place is going to look fantastic - much better than other values built to date.

snow white, while groundbreaking for its time, lacks some modern appeal.

they can digitally "wash" it all they want...but i can't think that today's kids or even when I was a kid would have that much interest....and those that "grew up" with it are leaving us...

so one snow white ride is a great thing...two is completely unnecessary.

I agree to some extent, but my main point which I didn't really get to was that another meet and greet is just crap. Any ride is better than a meet and greet imho. Those are put up as pressure relievers for crowds, yet in my experience they're kind of cruddy. How big is that expansion that they absolutely need that space for another meet and greet?

I know its corny.....but I will miss it! Also the hidden Mickey on the wall mural. :sad2:

I think the improvements will be awesome and look forward to them being completed. :cheer2:

Ok...I think I got this one...

Characters meet and greets:
1. Are dirt cheap...ie those that "perform" are minimum wage or somewhere in that range.
2. Have the ability to consume large amount of people at peak capacity...ESPECIALLY when you invest billions in "next gen" interactive queues and technology...crowd control
3. Can be modified or just simply marquee changed to suit new popular characters with almost no expenditure

And finally...
4. Of course...charcters push large amounts of product...and herein lies the truth. Souvenirs, photos, visits to the bibbiddi, and of course....34 dollars of breakfast at Chef Mickeys

I'm excited for the new coaster. I really enjoyed SWSA but I won't miss it that much.

I'm also excited to stay at the AOA. I will be there in Dec

If the coaster has more than one show scene I won't mind as much. However if the only show scene is the mine from the art I think it is a waste.

I'm interested to see what they do with the Dwarves' cottage too

That's probably true. I do agree with you that I would also like to see more than 1 scene. I'm sure there will be with the length of the coaster but it's hard to determine with the concept art and models at this point.

I think you will see a concerted effort to NOT include these elements in as many rides as possible moving forward.

AAs break down...and cost money and maintenance men to fix.

And WDW has shown less of an inclination to do this with each passing day.

I took my son on Splash Mt in March - his first ride.
I personally believe that to be the best amusement park ride ever built...for a variety of reasons...but i was not pleased.

The thing looked duct taped together...and the turtle/ water fountain room - aka the best part of the ride - sat dead.

That is apalling...if i didn't know it wouldnt matter - i woulda gone to guest relations or beyond...

the question would have gone something like this: "so let me get this straight...when my tickets where 36 bucks in 1992 when the ride opened - you could afford to fix it. Now they are 95 bucks and you can't?
who's your accountant?"

I of course was not surprised by the condition of the ride...it just hit me harder than normal based on the situation and the number of years since i had been on the ride. But i digress...

i don't see in ride scenes to be stressed as it once was...

and you know what i'm really getting at: the Snow Capped White Elephant over in the corner of the room at AK

lockedoutlogic,

I am convinced you're playing a game with the rest of us, the goal of which is to see how many threads on this board you can bring up the failure of EE. What's your score? Seriously. ;)

I do agree that some of the rides have looked a bit sad lately. My 'hope' is that once FLE is done, and Disney scales back on large expansion mode, they will spend more time fixing what they have. I doubt that anything will be done with EE, but as you mentioned, sprucing up the classic rides should be a high priority.

I'm sad about the loss of SWSA... but I'll get over it. The New Coaster and the rest of he expansion will hopefully be worthy of the 1 old-school ride we lost.

Now a few comments about other things mentioned in this thread.

1. I wouldn't go so far as saying AOA is unneeded. From my understanding, it is addressing what is probably the only real need left unmet by current Disney accommodations. That being, 'inexpensive' rooms that will sleep more than 4-5 people. For families with more than 2 kids, their only options were pretty much multiple rooms or going up to a Deluxe Villa level for a multi-bedroom DVC unit. (Or offsite). Besides that, The resort looks nice from what I've seen....and it looks a HELLOVA lot better than the decaying remnants of the abandoned Legendary Years.

2. The Princess M&G taking over the SWSA location.... Again, I don't really have much of an issue with it. Princess M&G's aren't my thing, but I acknowledge that there is a large number of people who enjoy seeing their favorite character. The themed location which allows a higher number of guests to move through is something that means a lot for them. I think I remembered the Princesses were meeting in Toontown before all this work was done, so this current setup is not only a much better location thematically, but it's also a better fit for something that is pretty much needed in today's parks. I'll happily take losing SWSA over what (to me) was a lot of wasted space in the original FLE plans that had multiple M&G's where the coaster is now.

Do I like M&G lines and locations? not really... but I also remember that back when I was a kid you could find characters thruout the park randomly and out in the open. Today the crowds are much higher, and people (generally) are less courteous which would mean those days of a Character just walking out on Main Street and signing autographs/taking pictures with adoring kids without needing to have a queue set up first are long gone.

I wonder how much of your experience with Splash was due to the ride not being down for it's Annual maintenance earlier this year because of the BTMRR refurb? The ride is one that is a bit harder on the show elements because of the water.... and that same water makes it more difficult to access and repair broken show elements during the hours the park is closed. Since they Couldn't completely drain the mountain like they usually do to access some of those things this year, it would help explain why it's in worse shape than normal.
