Generally, I don’t like the idea of watching a re-make or sequels or prequals of a film and particularly I don’t like Disney’s practice of making live action versions of animated classics. I did see the live action Cinderella and Maleficent although that last one is a completely different story, and I did like the twist at the end. However, there seems to have been so much negativity about the Snow-White live action film, even before it came out, that I decided to watch it in the theater. Now, the original animated 1937 film is considered a classic, but there are certain questions about the story. First who was the evil queen and why was she so vain. Also, where did she get the magic mirror and was there a slave in the mirror. Where did the dwarfs live. What happened to Snow-White’s parents and how did the Evil Queen become Snow-White’s stepmother. Originally the Grimm brother’s story was written down in 1812, but prior to that there was a literary tale all about the Evil Queen, where she was born and how she got the mirror. This is the story of Richilde. An outline of the story can be found in the following YouTube video:

Tom,

Snow White is my most favorite princess of all time - I just love her ❤️

Since my mother taught me......if you have nothing nice to say, then say nothing at all :poop: and my Dad taught me to......zip the lip 🤐 I will keep my opinions to myself if regards to the live action Snow White. Let's just say that I'm going to pretend like it doesn't exist.

Thank you for posting this link though - I'll watch it later when I'm at home and not at work.

I enjoy Disney’s movies of the 30s and 40s but was already aware of the Grimms, HC Andersson, Lang, etc adaptations and tales.
From my POV it was pretty much downhill for Disney cinema thereafter.

No interest in live action versions of any animation work. ANimation made Disney what it is so I have no idea why the creative departments do this instead of new things, always strikes me as lazy. I'd much rather them put the money into new live shows at WDW, build 50 stages and make 50 plays and I'll visit every single one but I will not show up for a live action version of animation.

I'm so ready for this movie to release so it can flop and we can move on. I refuse to pay to see any of these remakes out of principle but the discussion surrounding this remake in particular is so exhausting.

There is a new phrase about "looking at something with a lens of today, instead of looking through a lens with the understanding of what was going on during that time period." This story has at least TWO previous time periods: the time when the Grimm Brothers wrote down known stories passed down from times past, and the original Disney version, animated from the Grimm Brothers and elsewhere.

These new questions seem like people applying a "contemporary lens" onto this story, with a lot of extra "deep thought" and self-importance by the new writers. "Hey, look at all this extra added back story that wasn't thought about, or left out of the original telling, that WE have added into our version."

I'll pass. The original version are the accepted original versions. Not every detail needed to be fleshed out and turned into a 3 hour storytelling. How about having some respect for those eras. Yes, there may be versions that were told and verbally passed down that weren't written down, like the Grimm Brothers did, or what Disney originally did. I don't need a modern day version with details for every little bit that happens. I don't need prequels or side stories.

I'm with you, this is a terrible idea, I saw a hilarious meme about Disney through different eyes... doubt anyone is thinking this through, does Disney REALLY want people to think on it too long?

Beauty and the beast - she had Stockholm Syndrome nevermind he doesn't look human so that's a whole new mental health issue
Little Mermaid - it is OK to give up everything for a boy
Cinderella - if you are pretty enough a man may save you

Maybe we should just suspend reality when we watch cartoons ... maybe noone wants it to be more than pretty colors and a short story:rotfl2:

visualy it looks terrible. the portions (in coming attractions) that don't appear to be intentional c.g.i. have an odd look like something badly photoshopped. part of the enjoyment for me of watching the original Disney version was the beauty of the animation-even watching an old un-retouched VHS copy is a visual masterpiece. this new one is painfully lacking.

Didn’t watch the Cinderella live movie, or Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Lion King, etc. I did watch the live version of Beauty and the Beast on Disney+ because I’m a big fan of Kevin Kline, Emma Thompson, Emma Watson, Luke Evans and others and it was OK. I have no intention of seeing the live Snow White…

I am going to see it JUST BECAUSE of all the comments, not my style of film but I am so sick of the gate keeping negative 'fans" that I figure I will add my box office support for once

so tired of folks tanking on shows before they are released. People making all kinds of assumptions to fit a narrative

I don't have any narrative about this film in particular. I hate all of the live action remakes. I'm not watching Lilo and Stitch either.

The discussion around this film really is so annoying so the delay made me go ugh, ANOTHER year of talk about Snow White?

not a fan of the live actions remakes either .... and I was not implying you have a narrative so my apologies if it came off like that, just the discussion has been very annoying I agree

Kevin & Tracey Thompson were on the pod meets world podcast and said as much about Dinklage being one of the reasons why little people have got less and less roles and it started with him talking about the snow white movie.

That being said Snow White is my favorite princess. Rachel Zegler is a doll and Ill be there night one for this movie. Have very low expectations for Gal Gadot though

I know people have a lot to say about these live action remakes but they make a ton of money for Disney so there is no shot they stop pumping them out.

All good, my bad for reading that wrong.

It's the same people who threw a tantrum over the Little Mermaid one. I got around to watching it and I was like you guys were THAT angry over a very mediocre movie? I really do expect Snow White to turn out the same way and the crying will be for nothing.

and that is fine. I am totally happy with cherry picking the content I want to see. We have varied tastes, and there are things that will appeal to others that do not appeal to me, and that is OK. I am just tired of the negativity from folks trashing stuff

I don't particularly hate the live action ones, so I'll watch them to make up my own mind. I do like the Cinderella remake, but all the others I didn't really care for. I also liked Maleficent (the first one), but it's not really a remake.

I just wish the people who come up with "new" movies would actually have new materiel and didn't just remake something that's already been done. That's all studios, not just Disney.

Problem is, the general audience doesn’t really pay for “new” movies with original ideas on a consistent level. Just the last 5 years of top grossing films:

2024: Inside Out 2 - Sequel that follows similar beats to original just with new emotions
2023: Barbie - New based on existing IP
2022: Top Gun Maverick - Sequel that follows the exact same beats as the original, prolonged Star Wars Trench Run
2021: Spider-Man No Way Home - Sequel with massive nostalgia pull
2020: Bad Boys for Life - Sequel
