Does anyone know where I can find a snow white dress for a 2 year old before we get to DW? I checked the Disney Store online and had no luck.
Wal Mart has one, but it looks cheap and uncomfortable.

My little princess is so excited to get her special dress.princess:

We've gotten costumes for pre-school plays and other events from buycostumes.com and costumesupercenter.com. We've had good luck with both. I don't think we have ever had one of their princess costumes, so I can't tell you about the quality of those particular costumes.

I made my daughter a Snow White dress for Halloween and am planning on taking it to Disney next week. It was not hard to sew and came out so cute IMO. I'll try to post a pic. :)

This was not hard at all, took me about three nights or so. I am not an expert sewer, by any means. Anyone could do it!

I needed one more post to put up the pic. Here it is.

Amyhoff, that has got to be the most true to Snow White costume I have ever seen!!! Amazing! Where did you find a pattern?

Thanks!! It's just Simplicity patterns, I got it at JoAnn's. It was my first dress and I am extremely proud of it, although it's not perfect. My little girl loved it and is now obsessed with Snow White! I'm really hoping to see her at our Akershus breakfast! My daughter will be wearing her costume!

I LOVE it! It is so beautiful and sweet. I have really only sewn a few baby quilts, pillowcases and the like. I may look for a pattern.

If you decide to sew it, I would suggest a few things... don't use the costume fabric. That's what I used and I swear, that fabric will fall apart if you look at it the wrong way. If I had it to do over, I'd buy cotton or maybe look for something else that doesn't fray too much. Also, I didn't follow the pattern exactly. There were some things I couldn't quite figure out, so I just did the best I could. It turned out okay, so I guess those things weren't all that important! haha! I also made the bow from the pattern, but then just attached it to a fabric covered headband because I knew my 2 year old would not keep the band from the pattern in her hair for long. The headband worked out great. I just hot glued the bow to the fabric covered headband (also hot glued).

The dress also has a cape and a white collar. My daughter would not wear the collar (it's stiff and stands up around the face), but she does like the cape!

I second using cottons. They are much softer and washable.:thumbsup2

That costume is beautiful! And so much prettier than anything that could be bought! I also recommend using cotton. It's much more breathable in the Florida heat. I know all these little princesses (I only have princes) love to wear their princess costumes to MK, but that polyester just does not ventilate enough. I'm a doctor who has had to render aid on my last two visits to Disney...both were to young girls with heat exhaustion, both wearing princess costumes. Needlesstosay, that was my first recommendation: take off the polyester costume. Both did fine, by the way.

I agree with using cotton if you decide to sew one for your daughter. Here is the Snow White I made for my neice. Her favorite princess is Snow White so of course she needed a Snow White dress for her first visit to Disney!

I made this one from a poly cotton broadcloth (called symphony broadcloth at Joanns). It is on sale for only $1.99/yd this week. It is very lightweight, but should be comfortable and its washable.

I used an older pattern, but should be pretty much the same as the one that Simplicity still sells.

The sewn dresses are beautiful!!

OP, I have found the dresses at Target to be better quality than those at Walmart. My DD4 has a nice Snow White dress from Target.

Ellenbenny - So beautiful!! I love your dress so much and wish I had done my daughter's in that type of fabric. It looks so much more comfortable!

Thanks for the info about the sale. My daughter is going to be Tinkerbelle this coming Halloween and I've been waiting for the sale on fabric. I got the pattern for $.99, so if I can get the fabric for $1.99/yard, I will only spend a few dollars on her costume! SCORE!

I word of advice about using Symphony-it tends to be very thin and see through. So if you are using if for the skirt of a dress, you may want to plan to add an under skirt to your pattern.
It is also a good idea to wash and dry the fabrics you are going to use before you cut out the pieces to minimze shrinkage and color running.
