Haha I know, I would seriously freak out if they said I have to have surgery again. When the said it the first time I was shocked. Boy oh boy do I NOT want to relive that moment. -- I had to have physical therapy after my surgery and everything "healed"....

Hugs to both of you.
:)

My thumb kept hurting on and off for a few months, and I kept telling my mom, but she just thought it was nothing...and that it would go away [[I thought the same thing, blah]]. Then one day in the car I looked at my thumb and it was swollen. I showed my mom and she agreed. We went to a surgeon who had me take an MRI to find out if it was cancer. Turns out I needed surgery to figure that out. After surgery, the surgeon said I had a soft tissue mass. The swelling and size of my thumb went down a little, but then it started to swell up again. We went back to my surgeon about 3 months later, but he said that my thumb is fine. My mom kept insisting that something was wrong, but we regretfully listened to the surgeon. Five months later my mom and me went back to the surgeon and he agreed to give us a prescription for another MRI. After looking at the MRI, the surgeon told us we needed to see a rheumatologist. So we went to who was supposedly the top notch arthritis guy.. but he just kept giving me med that gave me soooo much pain [[Mom quit giving me the med against his advisement]]. He said I had psoriatic arthritis and that I was going to get sore joints all over. Then we stopped going there because all he wanted to was give me med, and that never worked. Then, my mom looked on the internet and found a guy that seemed to be really experienced and even nearer to us. He looked at my thumb and after a few minutes of looking at my thumb, he said he was going to research the results of the mass that they took out from my surgery. On the next visit about 2 weeks later, he told us that I had synovitis (joint inflammation from arthritis). On this second visit, he said he would have to have a steroid shot in my thumb [[Gah, that kiiiiiiiiilled my thumb]]. He gave me 1-2 shots directly in my thumb, and then after just a few days, the swelling started to go down [[YAYYY!]]. It's still just a smidge big around the knuckle, but that's only because the bone grew a little when my thumb was swollen. We went to the guy again after 6 weeks for a follow-up visit (which was yesterday), and he was totally SHOCKED that my thumb looked normal, but said I needed occupational therapy to build up the muscle in the base of my thumb.

And that's the end of my story. =-)

Just goes to show - never stop searching for the right doctor. If things aren't working, it's time for a change...not all doctors have the right answers. :goodvibes
