Snow Storm😳

Is anyone boarding this wknd for a Christmas cruise worried about this big snow storm? Flights canceling and road closures if driving down to Florida?
I think we are outta luck, our flight from Toronto cancelled, and all other flights to anywhere near Miami are booked or are cancelled. Credit card will cover less than 50% of the cost, so unfortunately it’s going to be a pretty big hit. I guess there’s no way to get the money back?

I don't know how things work in Canada, but at least in the US, the airlines will refund your flights if they're cancelled. Or, you can rebook on some other day. Disney won't refund your cruise, but they might let you reschedule if you pay a penalty. Better than losing half the cruise fare.

We will get the flights reimbursed, but there’s really not many options left between today and Saturday, especially with the storm. All the flights are either full or cancelled. Was reading through Disneys policy, there really is no refund it seems. It was our first vacation in about 6 years lol, and quite the expensive one too. Lesson learned I guess.

Keep trying. Some flights show full but really aren’t. Hoping it all works out for you. Maybe a connecting flight to a place with better weather before flying down to fl

Have you been exposed to Covid? If so, you get a full refund, no questions asked.

Don't feel bad. People who grew up here in New England also don't know how to drive in snow and ice. Or at all. It's kind of amazing, really!
So true, being a native New Englander. The mere coating two weeks ago caused chaos on the roads Ah well...

I'm sorry. I really am. Cruising is the only vacation where I get trip insurance because so much can go wrong and the ship will sail anyway. I've never had to use it, but I did come close 10 years ago when my DD13 (at the time) tore her ACL a couple weeks before a cruise. We could have cancelled and received all our money back but my DD still wanted to go and the doctor said it was OK ... so we went anyway. The insurance gave me the ability to access the situation without panicking.

You can't get a refund, but you might be able to put what you've paid toward a different cruise and pay a penalty. I almost did that last February when an ice storm cancelled every flight in the area for the weekend. I was lucky that DCL had changed our itinerary because of Covid-19 restrictions at some ports, so I didn't have to pay the penalty to move my cruise to a different date. But that was their original solution before I found that email about the itinerary change.

We are debarking the Wonder today and hoping for the best on our travels home. Both legs of our flight are already delayed. I’m glad we had a great vacation and can just let the chips fall how they may going home.
I hope you had a great cruise and safe travels on your way back home! We board the Wonder on Wednesday for the NYE cruise. Right now in Vancouver we are getting MORE snow and freezing rain. Many flights cancelled. It's all turning to rain by tonight and the temperatures are going to sore well above freezing so we will be flying out with rain on Tuesday morning lol

Covid exposure = full refund, you need to use the magic words

So, just lie to DCL because the poster failed to take precautions and buy insurance? I've not sailed DCL but RCL, NCL, Carnival & Princess have all made their cancelation policies abundantly clear. The cruise lines themselves highlight travel insurance as a way to cover your vacation monies in case you need to cancel. So has every travel agent I've used. Its not a secret or a little known fact.

Like I said, I feel bad for the poster who is grounded in Canada. It really sucks that not only are they going to miss their vacation but also have to still pay thousands of dollars for an empty cabin. It's sad, but it's not unfair. They accepted that risk when they declined insurance.

DCL's Covid policy and allowance for cancellation is meant to help reduce the spread of illness on their ships. Not to give everyone an "out" if they can't make it to the ship on time because of weather. Frankly, I'm a little shocked that this is an acceptable recommendation here on the DIS. I have seen plenty of loopholes banned over on the resorts side of the boards because they circumvent the true intention of Disney parks and resorts.

I just wanted to the thank the poster who mentioned to keep checking for flights! We ended up flying into sarasota, during the snow storm day from Toronto. Drove about 3 hours the morning of the cruise and made it in time :).

Wasn’t the best weather for cruising though, grand cayman visit was cancelled and we were in the boat for 4 days until we finally had some nice weather, which thankfully coincided with the castaway cay day! All in all we still had a blast!
