Snow in the South OMG

We are suppose to get snow in the Snow in the South this weekend. I am not sure what bank has do with snow. But the banks was pack today. The grocery stores was a mad house. The bread place has no bread at all. LOL

I could not go any where without standing in 50 foot line for anything. I thought be smart and beat the crowd I guess not. Traffic was crazy and I was no where near a mall today at all. I all this suppose everyone suppose be at work and school.

I would like to take the kids movies tomorrow but it depends on the weather we get rain or snow.

When they hear the word "SNOW" around here, the panic sets in and everybody runs out and buys up all the milk, bread and eggs they can get their hands on. I suppose they'll live on french toast when they're snowed in?

I'm from NY originally so anything under 6" of snow is a non-event, but the rest of NC freaks out over even a flake.

We are supposed to get 16-24 inches tonight and although this is MN I couldn;'t believe the crowds out today! Costco was PACKED at 1 pm on a Friday. The banks were crawling with people. I have never ever seen it that busy due to a snowstorm. Must be a lot of transplants from somewhere and this is their first winter in MN!!

My friend just moved from here to just outside of Chattanooga and she just commented on FB about the rush to get bread and milk when there is a threat of bad weather down that way!

Its the same here when snow is predicted and I always wondered about the bank thing too. If you can't go anywhere, where are you going to spend money? But in everyone's defense we have had a couple of snow "events" that caught everyone off guard.

You have to remember it used to only take a little snow to cause major loss of power, water to freeze and roads to be not passable. Its much better now though. We got snow 4 times last year and the power didn't go out once.

I know what you mean. I'm from PA, but moved to Kentucky a year ago. Any little bit of snow paralyzes this whole area. We had a storm this past Sat/Sun that dumped a total of 3"(and I'm being very generous there) and school was closed for 3 days.

It's funny. My DD's principal in her old school was Canadian (Toronto). He was always very confused when the school board here closed the schools for 3 inches of snow.

We had a dusting of snow here today (not even an inch), and there was a 10 car pile up on I-70. People who are not used to driving in snow...

Problem is that we don't have the means to deal with snow like they do up in NY. Towns share snowplows and we have limited amounts of salt as well. It is also usually snow and ice combined here, and NOONE can drive on ice, no matter where they are from.

I don't go for the bread, but the milk is probably for the possibility of snow cream. I tend to make sure we have our regular stuff on hand, in case we can't get out for a few days. Well, maybe we COULD get out, but I'm not getting on the road when its icy.

I was shocked about the bank thing myself. I usually go during the dead period and today it was crawl with people. I had to park in the back of the bank. That first time ever had do that before.

LOL, so true! They just slap a plow attachment on the front. There are a few trucks rigged to spray salt solution here. If there is a THREAT of snow, the roads will be white as can be

Our radar picked up "snowfall" for us 2 days ago. It did not stick. You would have not known it though, so many wanted it to snow, but none of them can drive in it

I think the big thing isn't so much the snow, but the temps are supposed to DROP and that means ice.

I figure if I can't get to the store on Monday, then I will go Tuesday. Not a huge deal. We have plenty of food that we should eat anyway. And it's not like I had plans this weekend. Was going to sit at home and study for my final next week.

I've never understood the hysteria in MN when it happens. When I was a kid on the farm, it wasn't unusual to be snowed in for a week...then it truly made sense to be prepared. But, now, with modern snow removal, really, I've never seen more than a 24 hour period go by where you couldn't get to the store.

I do get the crowds at the stores today though. We are likely going to be losing one of the prime holiday shopping days tomorrow...so people went out today.

Year before last I actually saw some of them shovelling that salt/dirt mix out of the back of truck on I24 as someone was driving

I'll never forget the year I moved from MI to TN. My FIL still blames me for the snow storm they got that year I drove down one weekend in January to start looking for apartments & they got 7" on Thursday afternoon. It paralyzed the whole area until Sunday morning. I counted 45 cars in ditches from the TN state line to my boyfriend (now DH) house in Nashville. Most of those cars were still there when I left to drive home.

I've been here 8 years & I refuse to drive when the roads are bad because no one else can drive in the snow or ice. They don't know the meaning of S L O W!
