Does anyone have a site they use when buying snow boards, boots, bindings, etc.????

That won't cost me an arm and a leg???? LOL

My daughter's birthday is at the end of the month and she is going to be in a Ski Club this year and I would love to purchase some gear for her to get her started.

Thanks!!

I don't know if you have one around you but we have a place called play it again sports they have used stuff. They have a website www.playitagainsports.com I hope this helps!

If you can wait to buy the big items, our local ski/snowboard shops usually have "ski swaps" in october. People bring their used equipment to sell and you can get some really great deals.

I have also used ebay and just got my last snowboard from there last october.

I don't know how much you do or don't know about snowboarding, but here are some recomendations. If you already know all this then go ahead and skip to the end) DO NOT BUY STEP-IN (unless they are the ones that the back folds down on). Step ins are cool and seem convient...until snow gets packed in to them and your foot slips out going down the hill. Also make sure the heel cup is metal not plastic.

There are two types of boards sidewall and capped construction. As a beginner you can't much tell the difference, I now prefer sidewall. The size should be between her chin and nose (if she is young go towards the nose so it will last longer).

If she is a beginner make sure to get her a nice helmet. I took some spills when I first started that had i not had a helmet I would have been in trouble.

My last recomendation is to buy her a stomp pad, it just makes getting off the lift easier, some boards even come with them.

Step-ins are okay if you like them. they are easier to learn in since it is easier to get your foot in and out. You should never have the problem of you foot slipping out going downhill if yu are properly atatched before you head that way. It takes a few seconds to scrape the snow off you boots before you get in but you also have to do this with strap-ins as well and they have a longelearning time to get used to. the only thing metal you want on your board are the screws and the edges, everything else should be plastic or wood.

The length should be her chin or below if she is a beginner and to her mouth if she is intermediate and to her her nose if she is good. Do not buy her something she will grow into! It is not good for them to learn on something like that.

GET A HELMET NO MATTER! It is not just in case she falls, it helps if someone else runs into her as well. Some mountains also require this.

My last recomendation is to buy her a stomp pad, it just makes getting off the lift easier, some boards even come with them. Most mountains REQUIRE a stomp pad so this is a must if it is not already on the board.

[This site is having a pretty good sale on boots right now, http://shop.sierrasnowboard.com/browse.cfm/2,180.html They do ahve some decent boards and such but I know most ski shops are clearanciong for this coming seasons stuff and they may have some good deals there. A ski swap is a great place also. Another alternative is to buy her boots and then rent a board for the season for her to learn on. Most places have full season rentals and then next year when she knows this is what she wants to do, you can buy her a board, or even at the end of this season when everything first goes on clearance and you can have your pick of stuff.

Here is a place that has packages including boot, binding and board starting at $254. http://www.the-house.com/brd-packageswomen.html

Do you have an MC Sports by you? We got DS first set for 159-Board, Bindings & boots. It was a good brand I can not remember. I know we got this deal in Nov 2yrs ago & they normally have sets around Thanksgiving Christmas time. Maybe you could give haer a gift card for when it goes on sale.
