A question about the Snorkeling on Castaway Cay. We are planning to bring our own snorkeling equipment. I know we still have to use Disney's life vests but I have a question about the equipment itself. Are they requiring just the snorkel and mask or do they require fins as well?

When I went they would not let you in the area without fins. This kept people out that really just wanted to swim. :teeth:

I was planning to take my own mask and snorkel and use their vest for free. I didn't realize we would be required to use fins. Do they rent just the fins or let you use them for free?

You don't have to have fins ... but DH said its kinda hard without. He really enjoyed it. Saw lots of fish plus a stingray !!!! Rental for mask, snorkle, and fins .. $35 adult and $10 child. I would rent next time, packing all that stuff was a pain !!!!!! They have vests at both the rental counter and the lifeguard stands.

Have a great time, just got back Thursday and ready to go again.

In the two cruises we've taken they did not require fins, though we found they made swimming a little easier---particularily when swimming back to shore. We did pack 2 sets of fins and put them in a gym bag for easy toting back and forth to the beaches we visited during the cruise. :fish:

Is this a trip report?
No, but it soon will be - just got back this morning from the 3/19 Eastern - fantastic weather, including CC. Snorkeling note is that CC snorkeling is very family friendly (many sand bars to stand on), but to get the full experience you really want to use fins because you do have to go out quite a ways. I would still bring your own mask and snorkel as we had problems with leaks with the equipment rented to us (only $25 pp for adults).

I'll be posting pics soon (if they come out - who knows with the underwater disposable cameras) - DW and I came face to face with an absolutely gigantic fish - could it have been Barry?

Anybody ever just rent fins? I hate to pack them if I don't have to, but I really don't want to pay 25/pp just for fins.

I think it was $9 when I rented just fins. Plus I was told you can take them back and exchange for a different size, but I did not try this.
