we snorkeled on our own in St. Thomas -- Coki Beach, then walked over to Coral World. It was a nice day and we got to snorkel a lot longer than the Disney excursions give you. :)

The St Marrtin Golden Eagle snorkling is so much fun. The island they tahe you too is nice. On St thomas the St. John - 5 Star St. John Snorkel and Beach Adventure is really nice. Both have some refreshments and take you to some nice coves to swim.
For Castaway Cay we brought our own mask & snorkle. They supplied the vest. You have to go out & see mickey in the water. He's between the A & B bouys in the snorkle trail!

Take an excursion over to St. John when you visit St. Thomas - just gorgeous :)

I don't know which St. John/Disney excursion it was last week, but the one with the long boat ride, I heard, was awful. Everyone on board was sick from the ride back and forth. :(

On our cruise last February, we went on the Golden Eagle Catamaran excursion which was a lot of fun. However, we thought the snorkeling wasn't that great. I don't think we swam out far enough.

We also went on the Trunk Bay Beach and & Snorkel excursion when we stopped in St. Thomas. We loved that excursion! There is an underwater trail that you follow while snorkeling. We saw all kinds of fish, coral and anemones. It was great! The beach was beautiful too. I would highly recommend that excursion.

We tried to snorkel at CC but the water was too rough, so we didn't get very far. We are going back next February and will try one more time to find the Mickey statue at CC!

I really think they should mark the Mickey statue somehow. It was exhausting trying to find it! For future cruisers..the statue is out between buoys A and B, closer to A though. look for a lot of sunken "stuff" and you'll eventually find it.

I stayed at the spot for a few minutes until the next group of snorkelers came by..I shouted out to them that Mickey was here, then I asked them to do the same for any other snorkelers and pass it on. I don't know how long it lasted but I tried!! :) Lots of people were getting frustrated. My sons and I swam all the way out to the ropes/rocks and then swam back a bit before finding Mickey!

We did the Doubloon Sail and Snorkel and had a BLAST!! They served soda and water on the way out and then really yummy rum based drinks, soda, water and chips and salsa on the way back. The crew was awesome with the kids!! It was about an hour out, an hour to snorkel and an hour back. They had a guide for us to show us all the different fish and were very informative. We all even got temporary pirate tatoos!! They had my dh help lift one of the sails and they played Jimmy Buffet music on the way out and back! It was great fun and they were AWESOME with the kids! You can see more about them at their website

In St. Maarten we took a taxi to Orient Beach and it was beautiful but right off the ship is a beautiful beach you can go to and it doesn't take a 25 min taxi ride.

Thanks Heidi.

Does anyone know about St. Johns. I just read about there fish in a magazine yesterday and it sounds so nice.

My family and I did our own snorkeling excursion on St. John. We went to Trunk Bay. Trunk Bay is listed as one of the best if not the best snorkeling beach in the Caribbean and the Travel Channel lists it as the US' most picturesque beach. It's a US Nat'l park and the whole day cost us about $30 a piece including all transportation and renting snorkel equipment. The Trunk Bay excursion through DCL didn't make it to Trunk Bay that day and it seemed a little fishy. See the thread entitled "January 24, 2004 Cruisers - Are you out there???" page 50 or "Map of St John" for more details.
