Do we need to rent the snorkeling equipment for Castaway Cay, or can we bring out own? Also, do we need to rent the life vests, too?

Thanks!:)

seems like I remember the life vests were free, and you can bring your own gear.

We brought our own snorkeling equipment for Castaway Cay, there was no problem. I can not remember  if we had to rent a life vest for DD or not. I am thinking we did not since she does not usually wear one.

The vests are required on the family beach, and free. They are not required at the adult beach. You can bring your own equipment or rent. I have brought my own mask and gone without flippers (which works OK), and I have rented. The rental equipment was nice, and it is noce having flippers even though you can manage without.

Have fun!

Yes, you can just rent fins, I think it was $9?

Everyone must wear a life vest, which you can get for free. There's a life guard right at the water level and if you are even sitting there in the water with your gear, they will tell you to get a life vest.

Thanks lovinlife! That's a bit expensive- I just bought snorkels only for $10 each and was going to rent the rest. But now I may go back and get the masks too!

:smooth:

You guys must lug 16 suitcases on!!!! People seem to bring everything from snorkeling equipment to sodas, coffee and salad dressing with them!!! We brought 2 suitcases for 4 of us, my dd 12 is 5'6" and ds 16 is 6"2", so they don't have small clothes.
We rented everything, got the everything package on Castawayy Cay, which included the mask/fins/snorkel and vest for all day, and one hour bike rental.

I agree! We brought things that were advised on the tips page and found it completely unnecessary. Dinner rotations and all the other microplanning we discovered to be needless worry!

LOL......
TVGuy....that's US ;) With how much we snorkel, we find it much more economical to bring our own equipment. We do rent the fins though. I can fit all of our gear (snorkel/masks) for our family of 5 in one soft-sided gym bag. On our last cruise, we snorkeled on 3 separate occassions. For a family of 5 on that cruise it would have cost us $375 to rent snorkels & masks over the course of the week ! Yikes....think I paid about $20-$25 per set at Sports Authority about 3 years ago---good investment for our family . This cruise we're hoping to snorkel at least 2-3 times over the course of the 7 days. We tip the porters well ::yes::

WE also bring our own snorkeling equipment. Why pay $50.00 for the 2 of us when we have our own?
