I believe DCL offers three different snorkeling excursions in Conzumel. Does anyone reccommed one over the others? It may just be one adult, may be two. I really am interested in seeing the marine life not just a dead reef. Any suggestions?

I've been to Cozumel a number of times and snorkeled there about 4 times. To be honest, the first three times I snorkeled there I went on the west side of the Island (the side the ships dock on) and it was just alright. Nothing special. This past trip (on the Magic) we went to the East side of the Island and the snorkeling was phenomenal! The reef was pristine, in about 30 ft of water, but the reef itself came up to the surface. There were shallow tunnels and caves and nicks and crannies to swim into. The aquatic life was great as well. It was a bit of a swim out to the reef, but when we got out there it was all worth it. If I were you, and you want to do some great snorkeling, do it in Grand Cayman, or the East side of Coz.

We did the Fury Catamaran snorkeling excursion in Cozumel and there were some great sea fans and some colorful fish, but nothing like what I was expecting (and not near as nice as Cayman). The description above sounds WAY better! Plus, Fury has several boats for each cruise ship in port and so the snorkel area was extremely crowded! We still had fun, but next time I would follow the suggestion above :earsgirl:

We were just on the 5/22 magic and we ended up taking a taxi to Chankanab and snorkeled there, we had a great time and saw lots of fish. They had lots of chairs to relax in and I think a sea lion show and you can pay extra and swim with the dolphins. Overall it was a fun day and relatively inexpensive I think the admission was around $10 per person. Hope that helps!

How do you get to the other side of the island? Is there a charter or does one of DCL's excursions go there?

Try Eagle Ray Divers.com. This is a great company run by Chellie Castellanos. You can go to two or three reefs they even have a lunch package at a nearby club. Chellie gives excellent service and individual attention she gets everyone into the water and makes the experience for you. They take as few as 2 people and the cost about 60.. per person with lunch. Tell her the Saturday Night Cruisers said hello.

We went to the eastern side of the Island on the Dune Buggy tour. (Which included the snorkeling). There is - I Believe - only one road that leaves town heading east and completely disects the island. The road ends where the beach begins. You can rent a jeep or car and it was an easy straight shot there. Took about 30 mins or so. (Probably 20 miles) to reach the other side of the island. It was interesting and fun. The reef that we went to was about another hour up the coast (with the only access via the sand paths - You can drive on them, but I suggest a tour).

I don't know if any DCL excursions go to this side of the island for snorkeling.
We booked the Dune Buggy tour through CozumelHomes and it cost 89.00 for the entire day (about 9 hours) including buggy, all you could drink (water, soda, beer), each buggy had their own built in cooler so the beverages were ready for you anytime you wanted, lunch on the beach (very good) a stop at some Mayan ruins on the shore, snorkeling stop with gear and guide. We loved this tour. Well worth it and a bit "off the beaten track". Loved it!
