Since the hurricane damaged CC, is the snorkeling still worth it? Will we get to see some interesting, pretty fish? Also, if you have your own mask and snorkel and just need to rent fins, is it the same price? I have heard the sunken mickey statue is gone.

Can't say much about the family beach this year---although I was disappointed in the amount of fish there last Feb. But this year I snorkeled in the adult area and was pleasantly surprised to see an octopus, ray, flounder, barracuda and other small fish. I understand the adult beach is open to the ocean while the family area is netted.
About the snorkel rental---if you bring your own, it's free. They'll even give you the life preservers for free use.

We are die hard snorklers and would be disappointed if we do not see anything on the family beach. What's the chances of sneaking our 3 kids into the adult area to see some real fish?

We were just there in the family area and did see some fish but not many and a large stingray. But the water was BRRRRRRRRR cold! Not many people in! We brought shortie wetsuits and was glad that we did! Great for my kids first experience!

Oh yeah...mighty brisk! EVERYTHING on me was standing at attention! My goosebumps had goosebumps! :rotfl:

While the Mickey statue may be gone there is still a number of things out there to attract the fish. There is a also one of the 20,000 league subs out there which is always great to see. If you only need to rent the fins I believe the price is $9 not $25.

The adult beach if for those 18 years and older and that should be respected. If you want a much better experience than you might find on the family beach I would book a snorkeling excursion at whatever islands you visit.

Is the sunken submarine off the family beach or elsewhere? Is there good stuff (pretty fish, etc) to see off the family beach?

The snorkeling at CC was ok. Mickey is in for repairs, but will be back according to the cast member we talked to. It was cold- ok freezing- in the water, but what made it just ok was the size and amount of fish.

Now if you are going on the Eastern Caribbean itinerary our family HIGHLY recommends the Doubloon Sail and Snorkle excursion! What a blast! The snorkeling is great- you go to a real shipwreck with a guide, also a coral bed and some awesome fish hot spots.

If anyone wants more info- pm me and I'll brag on this some more. Suffice to say our entire family LOVED IT!

When we were there in September (the first ship to dock after hurricane Frances) there was a ton of sea life in the family beach. We also snorkeled in the adult beach, and was somewhat disappointed to not see so much sea life. There was a barracuda that some friends saw, but I did not.

We were there on the Jan.20th Wonder cruise. The water was chilly but we found the further out we went , the more fish we saw. Saw a little school of ballyhoo, large snappers, some jacks, angelfish, a school of large hogfish and an enormous grouper! It wasn't as good as our snorkeling along the Florida keys last summer but I did see a few fish I hadn't seen before. Also, close to shore the visibility was very poor but don't give up and swim out as far as you can. You will see some fish!

When were you there? What was the overall temp. during your cruise? Do you think you missed out because the weather was chilly? Just wondering! :wave2:

We were there this past weekend. Water was very cold...very few brave guests. We were some of them but I had decided to bring us shortie wetsuits..got them on ebay for about $20 each and it was certainly worth it. The water did get warmer the further that you went out. My DSs loved the snorkeling although we weren't in for as long as we thought we would be. Where does the time go? Also, my older DS(10) had to get out after a short time..his lips were turning blue! :cold: I figured out later it was because he doesn't have an ounce of fat on him...the rest of us have some padding! If we went this time of year again, I would not do the snorkeling but would still consider going. The island is beautiful and there are alot of other things to do besides going in the water. :cool1:
