I would love to go snorkeling at Castaway Cay but I have a couple of questions about it. First, I am a very plus size woman (300 lb).....will I be able to wear the snorkel vest? Second, my DD and I are not very strong swimmers, we are fine in a pool but not used to swimming in wavy water. How calm is the water in the lagoon? & how deep is it?

The water was pretty calm when we were there. The rocks really help to block any big waves.

Definitely use a flotation vest if you feel like you might need it. I think they come in all different sizes -- there was big piles of them if I remember correctly.

The snorkel vest is not like a full life saving vest. It is a small (deflated) piece of yellow in front that you strap on. (You do not need to inflate the vest, they just require that you wear it so they know who is out there snorkeling.) The family beach has a break wall so it is very calm. So no worries, have a great time.

The PP is right in that the snorkel vest is just something they use to be able to see you (there are lifeguards out there in the snorkel area). But I believe there are also flotation vests available if you need them. Hopefully someone here will know for sure.

Is there a tie or fastener of some kind on the vest that goes around your belly or waist? I'm afraid that's where I'll run into problems. I hope it will be okay. My dd & I went snorkeling with sharks at Typhoon Lagoon and we loved it!!!

The straps are very long on the larger vests, so you shouldnt have a problem. I saw many plus size women out there with them on. The water was so calm like being in a pool and it got deep right away but we had no problems and it was our first time snorkeling.

There are generally 2 sizes of snorkel vests at CC. An Adult and a childrens. There may a few that are larger, as DCL seems to be getting new stock in, and some of them looked larger then others. The straps are adjustable, so if you get one that doesnt fit, put it back and get another.

The lagoon itself is only between 4-10 foot average, and sheltered from the waves. The biggest waves are usually measured in inches. Most of the interesting things are located under the different colored buoys in the lagoon itself, such as the 20K sub, the Mickey and Minnie Statues, etc.

You will have no problem with the vest since it does not wrap all the way around. And it seems like the strap that does wrap around you waist is very long to accomodate all sizes:thumbsup2.

My DS is not a very strong swimmer so we just put his over the top of his life vest.

We snorkeled twice (two different days on our B2B cruises) and the experiences were like night and day. The first day was very windy (ship almost couldn't dock) and it was difficult for my son to swim and snorkle (waves kept splashing him in the face). The choppy water made it a not-so-fun experience. Although my DD, who is a very strong swimmer, had no problem at all.

On our second visit, it was a calm day and it was just wonderful. We were able to swim all over with no problems at all. The calm water made it so easy to just float around and slowing check out the fish and items on the sea floor. :thumbsup2

It was hard to imagine that such different experieces could happen just 4 days apart. So there is no way to tell what you are going to get but I'll have my finger's crossed that your day there was like our second visit :thumbsup2

Thank you so much for your posts. They are very reassuring. We will try snorkeling for sure now ( unless the water is choppy ).:thumbsup2

The vests are very generous to us big girls.

The water is very calm. You can pull one of the low sand chairs into the water a bit and order a pina colada--now that's a vacation
