Sniper has struck again (Monday night)

I want in on the group hug. I'm so angry right now.

*****HUG******

I am just too stunned.......... I really thought we had made it through another day here without incident. Please all be safe.:(

I don't even live anywhere near Virgina/Maryland/D.C. and I just can't sleep now!! DH told me about this latest shooting a couple of hours ago, and I'm too upset, wide awake, I can't sleep. I brought the laptop into the livingroom so I don't wake DH or DSs up :(

Please stay safe down there! If this was happening up here, I know I'd be too afraid to go out :(

:( :( :( :( So sad.

Be careful as possible everyone in those areas. Lots of {{{{hugs}}}} headed your way.

That's because you have gun control laws in your fair country. Here in the US it is perfectly legal to own the semi-automatic weapon he is using. If anything comes out of this tragedy, I hope it's stonger gun laws, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, the unfortunate woman died from a single gun shot to the upper torso (probably went thru her back to her heart). Her husband was with her. So the sniper has gotten even MORE courageous - now his targets are no longer alone.

My heart and prayers go out to her family and all the families directly affected as well as to everyone in the area who's afraid.

As for suspects - none so far.

My basic thoughts is this guy is a tradesman of some sort - he is scoping out potential victims on his way to and from jobs. and the vehicles he uses are probably related to his job. He is VERY familiar with the MD/DC/VA roads - closing the major thoroughfares isn't going to catch him. There are at least 10 different side roads he can use for every major highway they shut.

No offense to the respectable tradespeople. So please, don't flame me. He is probably an electrician or a carpenter or a cable installer (or he works for one). Based upon the vehicle with ladder hooks (carpet installers don't typically use ladders). He may also install windows or doors (hence the box truck).

My guess is he lives in a rural area. He probably also has access along his "killing routes" to a garage or a barn or some other large building in which he can put his "hot" vehicle until the coast clears. It sort of reminds me of the "Fugitive" movie, police should bne looking in every road house, out house, field house, you get the idea.

He's has some military background. He is methodical. He IS smart.

Who's going to catch this sick wacko - probably the average citizen. There are TOO many roads in this area for the police and federal officials to "see" him.

If any of my "neighbors" know someone or work with someone who may be expressing admiration for the sicko, do yourself and your community a favor. Call the police. And if you see the white box car or the white/cream colored Chevy Astro with the broken tail light (which is probably fixed by now), DO NOT APPROACH - do not take matters into your own hands. Call the police. Get a description. Be safe.

Stay safe everyone. Think happy thoughts. Be alert. Take care.

ROBIN, over 30,000 people die yearly on the road in accidents involving alcohol. Sure, cars are the "lethal weapons" involved, but they're driven by drunk drivers:mad:   . The same can be said for guns; it takes a psychopath to pull the trigger.

One more thing - you do know, don't you, that St. Michael is the patron saint of the police? Could be a message there.

disneyispi--great insights! We've discussed many of the points you brought up (too much unfortunately) but you added a few new angles. I didn't know that about St. Michael--very interesting.

It sucks to live here. :(

Another night of being up at 3 am and not being able to go back to sleep. :(

Every time someone gets killed, I lose a little confidence that this maniac will be caught. Its becoming so disheartening.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families. To have someone you love just have their life snuffed out like that, just like that, in the blink of an eye. :( Its just surreal, and I think we are all just numb around here. I know I am. :( :(

Snoopy & Blondie - I have been burning my candle everyday for you guys & all the folks down there who are trying to keep it together, with a murderous freak on the loose. I don't know how you guys are doing it. If you ever need to vent or anything, please feel free to call on me - don't have any answers, but my shoulders have been said to be strong.....

As far as gun control laws, I must agree with EROS ( a rare event, right EROS?) Most gun related crimes aren't even committed with legal guns - The laws aren't going to stop illegal gun owners/users. They'll still get a hold of weapons & crimes will still be commited & people will still be killed. I don't believe semi-autos should be legal, but I don't think that would change a thing in this case - This guys not "mowing" he's one shot per target...
Sadly, in this case, I suspect he is a registared gun owner - This guy has had alot of practice and/or some kind of training....
But, I'm a registared gun owner & would never turn my gun on anyone (or anything living)

When I was working as a rep for a carpet company, I used to call on that Home Depot when I first moved to VA 4 years ago. :( All this is making me glad I turned down the opportunity to relocate to the DC area 3.5 years ago.

I don't know why, but I can't shake the feeling that this may not be a typical serial killer and may be an Al-Quada related terrorist cell doing this.

Someone said something about the sniper striking at national chains -- Home Depot, Exxon, Michaels. Four have been shot outside gas stations. I wonder if there's a clue in all that somewhere.

It seems as if this guy is getting bolder by the minute. It is so horrible to know that the only real hope of catching this maniac will be for more killings to occur. What a way to live.....

Flights out of Washington-Dulles were packed this weekend. I don't know if people had planned to leave for the holiday, or if they were heading out on a whim to get some peace. I can tell you that it's alot easier to sleep in Orlando right now!

:(

I woke up to hear this news. I was so hoping that nothing would happen but I guess that it too much to ask for.

I am praying for all of you whose lives are so effected by this nut. I can only say that I hope they get him VERY soon. :(

As I was finished watching TV last night I was feeling rather peaceful --- He hasn't shot for 3 days now --- then I turn on CNN quickly before bed to look for any updates -- the peacefullness quickly flew out the window!

{HUGS} to all those close to this area and more directly involved.

I didn'thar about the shooting until I opened this thread up. I was watching a special on ABC last night about the shooting. This is very scarey.
