My dd is turning 8 next month. She has her heart set on a b-day party at snip-its. I have the brochure(no prices). Party includes an updo of choice, makeover (each girl brings their makeup home as goodie bag, cake and juice boxes, and girls dress up with feather boas and such for a runway walk. Well I call tonight and find out it is a 30 booking fee PLUS 25 for each girl. She wants 10 girls sooooo 280. plus tax ughhh. Has anyone done this before?? If they do a great job keep the girls happy and entertained then its worth it I suppose. I'd hate to spend that much and find out its a big bust. Last year she opted for dinner and a movie with mom and dad and 100.00 cash  :cool1: that was the best!!!!

I haven't heard of this before, but that sounds like something that my DD would love. That is awful expensive, You could probably do a party at home for around $125 for ten girls, but it sure would be alot less work for you so I guess you would have to decide if that's worth the additional $$. Do you have to pay for all of the guests that you invite regardless whether or not they come?

Its a min. of 6 girls. As long as you have the six you only pay for who shows up. I did Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and a HUGE 40th surprise party for dh on DEc 30th so I am just wiped out on the party planning. My dd just got home from Dance and was willing to cut her list down to six just to have this party so I'm thinking I'm going to let her invite the 10 girls and have the party. On a side note she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last Feb. and it has been a tough year for her. She has been such a trooper and does all her own testing and most of her own injections already so I guess 280 to give her a great party is worth it :sunny: I just really want to know that other people have done this and snipits has done a good job.

Thanks

Hi! Sounds exactly like Libby Lu that we have here. I haven't had a birthday party there, but my DD's have been. They had a blast with it...especially the hair. It is about the same price per girl. The only thing I didn't personally like were the choices in outfits...sequin tube tops with tight pants aren't exactly my idea of appropriate attire for pre-teens to parade around the mall in  !! Anyway, it is a fun experience and if you're willing to pay for it, I'd go for it! I kinda like those stress-free parties sometimes!!

My DD would love this!! I will have to look into it. It is about priced with all the other things out there - a new one here is a portable stuff a bear type party - where each child picks an animal and have it stuffed. It ranks up there in price too - also have you ever priced those inflatables? Those are expensive too - it it tough having Bdays nowadays.

Sequin tube tops and stretch pants :earseek: lol I think they just use feather boas and fashion sunglasses at snipits. :earboy2: I have rented those jump houses in the past for my older dd as her b-day is in summer so I guess it all evens out in the end :cool1: My 5 year old dd turns 6 in Feb also :rolleyes1 She wants a bowling party thats only about 10. per kid plus cake.

I can't believe you posted this- we are trying to plan the same thing :cheer2:

I struggled with the money thing, so I decided a sleepover at home with my "budget fixins" and then a trip to Libby Lu's separate from the party with her sister and one friend at a different time. I just couldn't swing that much money but it does look like a ton of fun! princess:

How many girls for the sleepover? I think that sounds like agreat compromise she still gets a party and the libby lu experience!!!

We have a community college near us that has a tech school. You can get hair & nails done really cheap. I know people that have done that instead of the expensive route.

Probably 6-8 total. Truth be told, girls this age really only have 4-6 "good" girlfriends so I have tried to get my two girls to bring the numbers down each year. We used to have 10-12 when they were K & 1st grade and have managed to get those numbers down each year. :goodvibes (especially when we get to do the sleepover parties!)

For my 8 year old we will do just the traditional sleepover (pizza, toenails, movies, chocolate, etc.) We will all crash downstairs on big pallets of blankets and pillows and have some Krispy Kremes for breakfast with an early pick-up time of 9:30!!! (very important!)

For my 10 year old she has been planning a "spa" party all year! princess: and I hit the jackpot at Wal-Mart during their 75% off Christmas sale. I picked up wooden massagers, air-up bath pillows, lip gloss, make-up bags and lotion for less than $1.00 per girl!!!!! :earseek: I was so excited! I couldn't believe my luck! :) We will have special "areas" set up for the girls to have their nails done, hair done, enjoy a "coffee" (hot choc. ;) )with a sweet treat, and other things. I'm going to use my babysitter as a helper in one center and we'll use little sister to run one of the centers. It should be a hoot! :p When the girls show up, we will have them change into pj's and robes with slippers and I plan on having candles lit with the soft music just like the real spa! :cloud9:

Every few years I'll do a big one for them when they come up with a really original idea (like the one above) Other than that we've had to be creative because we can't afford to go all out AND still have actual birthday gifts ;)

Let us know what you decide! :wave2:

What a fantastic idea!! My DD just turned 6 and had her first sleep over (other than cousins). Her birthday is New Years Day so we did it on NYE and did the traditional Eve festivities with the countdown and a "punch" toast and kisses on cheeks for everyone! The girls had a blast, but I think parents without kids on NYE were even happier!! :Pinkbounc

My DD turned 9 just before Christmas and we too are doing a karaoke- makeover sleep-over. I also hit walmart and got some great things to do make up and nails with. I'm having a couple of high school girls come over to do the hair do's while her aunt and I do hair and make up. Then we are going to decorate picture frames and have a "fashion show " and karaoke session, while my nephew takes digital photos of them. In the morning they'll get to leave with thier lip-gloss goody bag from walmart (Christmas 50% off :cool1: ) and a picture to put in their picture frame. We're staring the party @ 7:00 and I'm just going to have some kid friendly appetizers and then have pancakes and bacon in the morning.

I own a salon and I think kids would enjoy something like this! But that is very high especially for little girls...Say if I promoted something like: a manicure, a hairstyle and goodie bags (have mom bring cake and juice), what would be an acceptable amount to charge? I would probably require a deposit...not a booking fee...so, what do you all think?

I think that would be a great idea for your salon. My nail salon is doing one and I did think about having it there in the beginning-But no hair. so I opted for the snip it party. it is the same price at $19.99 per girl. The nail salon said they would do the manicure/pedicure and small goody bag for this price. I think this type of party is a huge hit down here.

we are doing this on 2/11/06! :cool1: dd is turning 6. we just went by last evening to check out their invites and decided to buy our own. she is inviting 11 girls and I bought those lizzy mcguire feather boas online for $1.99 and tiaras for $1.00 after halloween. she is going to pass them out at the end after they receive their goody bags. Im getting the credit for the cake as she wants the barbie and the pegasus cake. we decided to go over to the olive garden for lunch after. she is all excited for her all day girls activities! It does seem steep but after you factor in the goody bags, paperware, decorations and activities at home- this seemed about the same. Im not sure if all the girls will come but right now this is my thinking-

11 girls at $19.99 a piece= $220
paid $50 deposit already. guess there is a $30 fee for something. they will change that to $15 since Im not getting the cake.
lunch will run me about $5.00 plus tax and tip per girl and if the moms want to come- them also. Im thinking around $200 for that..

I easily paid that much for ds party at home with a bounce house, goody bags, etc in November.

guess they get to do a craft also.My friend that takes photographs is going to come and take pics of the girls on their runway! Im going to put a pic of each girl in their thank you notes.

I'd love to hear some stories if anyone has done this before!

will you let me know how it goes? This just sounds so interesting and fun!

I sure will. :sunny:

I did see a card at one of dd's pta functions about having a glamour party at your home. This lady comes and does it all but I figured going somewhere is half the fun and it always takes me so long to prepare for parties in my home. ;) Im just alittle nervous about taking all those little girls to OG after. dd and I came up with the idea one day when we were having lunch there- there was a snip it pary that came in for lunch and they all looked so cute! what a fun day for them! I was pretty excited when I found those crowns and boas on sale after halloween. they are going to have a blast.

We did a manicure party at a salon. We had the party after closing time on Saturday (around 3 pm). My daughter invited 6 girls and they each had their nails done. They charged me $10 for each girl. I brought a cake, juice boxes, balloons, and goody bags. Worked out great and cost was reasonable.

This sounds like a great idea. My good friend owns her own salon and spa, but it's never occurred to me to ask her about doing DD's b-day there. DD will turn 10 toward the end of this year, and this may be the ticket since her b-day's during Nov. when it's difficult to do much outdoors. My friend does weddings, hair, and make-up. Her SIL runs the spa side, including manis, pedis, facials, massage etc. I get regular pedis, occassional facials, and DD and I get hair services once a month. I'm going to ask her next time we're in if she'd be willing to accomodate us after closing on a Sat. Thanks for the idea!

You guys are the best!!! You all have such great ideas. I'm going to try and see if the spa sleepover karoake party thing will work. If she is dead set on snip its then I think I'm going to suck it up and bookit today. I'd love to find the boas and tiaras at a deal, I wish I had been thinking ahead!!! Keep the ideas coming.

THanks

Target dollar spot has great slumber party spa- accessories right now. I got 11 pink picture frames to decorate, and CD lables that have "slumber party" on them to burn a slumber party mix. As far as the boas go I'm getting 1 or 2 at Michales with the 40% off coupons I get in the Sunday paper. They also had cute manicure and pedicure sets for $1.00.
