Day 2 Post 4

We decided to leave a day earlier than planned because of flights being so erractic from NOLA and some yucky personal business that caused several of us to take off from school and work on that Thursday. We needed to start our vacation early.

At 2:00 pm, we left home and had an uneventful trip to Lake City, FL, where we decided to spend the night.

Since I was the last one sleeping, I was fair game for the rest of the family to wake up in an “interesting” way. Dh doing his best Star Wars Emperor voice named me pretty flower and commanded me to rise amid the giggles of the kids.

We all dressed in our matching t-shirts I made from Iron on transfers. We coined ourselves the nerd family and left for lunch.

After a lingering lunch, we were back on I-75 S headed for WDW in the car which blared Disney songs the entire time because we were so excited. Hey, we were already nerds, so who cared if we sang the Tiki Tiki Room very loudly and very badly.

We arrived at Pop Century right at 3 pm and did not have a long wait to get our room keys/ tickets. After dropping our stuff off to the room we headed to downtown Disney.

We found the buses easy to use, and at DD we wanted to eat at the Rain forest Café, but it had a 2 hour wait. We ate at Captain Jack's instead. DH and I liked it, but the tastes were too grown up for the kids. They were disappointed and started a bit of grumbling.

I told the kiddos we were at Disney, which is the happiest place on earth during the happiest celebration on earth, so if they were not happy, they needed to breathe deeper and sniff more pixie dust. Stitch replied “okay, tinkerbelle” Both the “Sniff more pixie dust” and tinkerbelle took on a life of their own. We visited lego land and the world of Disney where we got parts for our potato head bodies for us and my DM.

We made a grocery stop at the Walmart where we also picked up disposable cameras for the kiddos, a Mickey water bottle with a strap, and the most useful item (which I would find out later) a mickey fanny pack for me with a water bottle holder that was too small for our water bottle.

When we got back to the hotel, we bought pal mickey (which we enjoyed tremendously) and two refillable mugs. I ordered a wakeup call, and set the alarm clock for five minutes earlier. We all showered quickly and went to bed. It was after midnight and we were getting up early the next morning. Epcot future world was the plan for the next day.

Sounds like you're off to a great start!
Looking forward to more!

thanks so much for your report. I wish we lived close enough to do a RIDE TO type vacation. Thanks again

The next morning at 6:55 the alarm clock went off. I turned on the lights and laid in bed trying not to giggle at surprise number one. No one in my family knew about the wake up call. They didn’t know it isn’t a regular wake up call either. They don’t dis. :disrocks:

So the phone rings and I put it on speaker. Stitch (the Disney one-not mine) yells wake up no sleeping. :stitch: My stitch giggles and then goes back to sleep. Princess wants to know why didn’t Belle wake her up. And she goes back to sleep. The Ewok :ewok: has yet to show signs of life. What is wrong with these people?

No biggie I start coffee. I hand out shirts. Yes, matching ones. I’m a nerd and insist my family acts like one too. I slowly start seeing signs of life out of the others. Slow being the operative word. These people think this is a relaxing vacation. Like I said. They don’t Dis.

So I turn on the TV to a theme park channel to get them pumped and talking about the day’s plans. I start making bowls of cereal. They are still moving slow. Finally, I start barking commands like on a school morning. My stitch says, “Hey, tink. Sniff more pixie dust." pixiedust:

But they move faster. I have won. We get to the park at 9:05 and find the land and get to soaring after an epcot picture. The wait is forty minutes. We fast pass it and do the Living with the land ride and do the Circle of life movie.

We get up to soarin and the princess sees she leaves the ground and freaks. The ewok and princess bow out and stitch and I ride the ride and it is awesome. On the stitch ride I earn the nickname Mitch which means mother of stitch, because stitch and his mom rode the ride.

After soaring we eat at the seasons fair for lunch which the kids liked and we see Mickey doing the character lunch at the garden grill. Princess took her camera and snapped a picture of mickey. "I want to meet him too. And I want to meet him first." HRH proclaimed. So we went to character connections. And guess who was first? That’s right mickey.

The princess runs up to him and kisses him and says Mickey we have been saying the last six months that you needed us. ::MickeyMo Mickey kisses her again and nods his head yes. I am going to be honest right here. For 10 minutes we all believe we met mickey mouse and not a person in a costume. The princess suspended her belief forever. When we met mickey that’s when my Dh and I knew we had did it. We had brought our family to WDW. He had tears in his eyes, and so did I.

We have had a rough six months dealing with icky stuff involving one of my sisters and this vacation was just what my family needed. We were at Disney. We were going to be okay. We were with Mickey. Mickey might claim he needed us, but he’ll never know how much we needed him.

We sniffed pixie dust and took a picture with Mickey.

So we met Mickey :mickeyjum and the ewok (who has not earned his nick yet) and I are feeling like the best parents in the world. ::yes:: Then Minnie is next. ::MinnieMo Stitch (my 13 y.o. DS) thinks he will gracefully bow out of meeting Minnie. He goes sits in a corner to wait. He will join us for Pluto, chip and Dale, and DH’s favorite, Goofy. No biggie.

The family rule is you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. However, you will wait for the rest of us. Remember, we are the nerd family, and we have on matching shirts. This plays a big part of what happens next.

Minnie hugs me and the princess and kisses pal mickey before taking a picture with us. After she takes our picture with her, she spots DS and knows he belongs to us. We all have matching shirts. She points at DS, puts her hands on her hips, and marches straight over to him, sits on the floor, and kisses him all over the face. Mickey comes and sits on the other side of DS and it is the perfect Kodak moment. It is also the moment when stitch got a girlfriend. :love1:

DS claims he was embarrassed, but the little attention getter is not known as stitch without reason. He loved it.

After Stitch’s girlfriend ::MinnieMo went back to her line. Stitch went hid far, far away. The princess, DH and I met Chip and Dale, who were a lot of fun. The played with the princess’ hair and blamed it one each other and fought over who liked her more. Then we met Pluto and Donald, who would not take a picture with pal Mickey. Mickey sat on a ledge.

Then it was time for the ewok to meet his idol, Goofy. :goofy: DH can be uptight. So, it is twice as fun to see him relax and loosen up. He grinned from ear to ear when he took his picture. I got him to take a picture by himself with Goofy, and then the whole family took a picture.

Only once we were out of the character connection did the princess say. Why don’t I have a book for the characters to sign? Which prompted Dh to ask, if they don’t have autograph books, why I am carrying around 10 colored sharpie markers?

Oops… What was I to say? :confused3 I made you personalized autograph book, and then because of the junk we were dealing with it totally slipped my mind to print it out and have it bound. No way.

So I said instead, because I didn’t know how you would reacted to the characters, so now that I know you like them we will buy you an autograph book tonight at the gift shop and you can see Mickey again tomorrow. Well, that cheered the princess up and we went to innoventions. And stayed there, stayed there, and stayed there. Then we went to the other side of innoventions and stayed there, stayed there, and stayed there. My kids loved it. But we watch a lot of PBS in our house.

We finally got the kids to leave innoventions and we were going to Ellen’s universe of energy, but it was closed because of difficulties, so I found a coffee bar :coffee: and we stopped to rest. I had coffee and a pastry while Dh and the kiddos had their first Mickey bar, :mickeybar which they loved. Then the rain came. Not a lot but not just a sprinkle. My family was ready to head back to the hotel room. :car: Morons. :furious: They don’t Dis. :disrocks:

So my family is scared of a little rain. Dh thought he came up with a good compromise. We’ll go do the living seas. Because no one else in the park will come up with that idea right. :rolleyes2 Well, I was out numbered, so we went to the living seas to see fish. :fish: Did I mention my family watches PBS a lot? Well, we go into living seas, which is Packed. (Told Ya!) First thing they want to do is the turtle talk with Crush. Nope! Absouletly not. Just look at that line and no fast pass.

So we look at fish. I am excited over all the little nemos (Clown fish, mom)

They are excited by this ugly thing that changes color and texture they saw on a nature show (Cool, cuttlefish)

We walk around some more. I like crush (a big sea turtle) They like the scuba divers (they are just people)

Well, we all liked the manatees.

I am bored, they think they are in the middle of a PBS show.

“I think the rain stopped. Let’s go see something else.”

They are back at the cuttlefish pulling things out of their fanny packs to see if it will try to blend in.

15 minutes later, I say, “Let’s go see something else.”

They are playing with these little interactive boards in the nemo fish room.

Twenty minutes later, we finally leave. We go to the imagination building. I am looking for Honey, I shrunk the audience. We end up in the Figment ride. No biggie. Figment was on the list too. :figment: After figment the brainy ones has to play at all the stations.

Well, when we finally get out of the stations it is 7:00 and Honey I shrunk the audience is closed for the night and illumations starts in less than an hour. I want to find viewing around England. They see a bench and a McDonald’s snack shop. We stop and my first night in WDW I had chicken Mcnuggets to eat. Oh, Joy!

Now this is when I am supposed to become prefect mommy. You see, I have read on the DIS to buy to neon glowy things at home and break them out after dark to keep the kids from wanting to buy stuff in the glowy carts.

So I break out these bracelets, and hand the kiddos each a pack. Wouldn’t you know that 2 out of the three of DS’s are duds. I ask DD to share one with her brother. She gives him the dull color. DS has been holding on to his money to buy a stitch hat all day. He weakens and then succumbs to the glow of the glow cart and we go over there and he buys a twenty five dollar pair of neon glasses. But he is happy, and it is his money so I back off. DD is making DH Mickey ears with her neon bracelets and we wait for illumations. Illumations was fantastic and with the crush of people we leave the park. I am a little sad. I only rode one ride and only did one must see (Soarin”) and my brainy kids are still talking about the cuttle fish. (The ugly fishes) Well, I think to myself. I am glad they like educational things because tomorrow is the world showcase.

We ride the bus back to the hotel, and go to the gift shop. DD buys her a put together crown, veil, and a big dangle for the front. princess: Ds looks at the stitch hat, and comes to me and says, “If I don’t spend my money tomorrow can I get the stitch hat?” I tell him yes, although it means floating him 7 dollars instead of two, because the glasses went over his limit.

I buy Autograph books, and a passport .

We go back to the hotel room, and they remind me to make a wake up call order. Instead of sleeping a little later tomorrow, we will go do honey I shrunk the audience and I will do test track. (And get autographs mom comes from the princess) Then we will go to the world showcase.

I feel better. Everyone is happy, and we go to sleep with pixie dust dancin’ in our heads. :cloud9:

Next installment: World showcase

I have complete the rest of day 2 and how we survive the rain and moved all of day two into post 4

Thanks for a great report!! My boys love Innoventions too and can stay there and stay there and stay there. In fact, I think the highlight of our entire trip last summer was when my oldest son, who was 8 at the time, won the robot race. Mind you, he didn't win anything for winning the robot race, except the right to brag for the rest of the vacation that he had won the race, but he can't wait to go back this summer and do it again. He's already planning the modifications he'd like to make to his robot. Man, that thing better still be up and running in August!!
