My baby is growing up. He just left going with DH hunting for the first time. He is so excited, John is a little less excited:)

I can't wait to hear just how still J.C. sat for 2 hours:rolleyes:

LOL!~Beauty.....

it's a rite of passage...I'm sure J.C. will have dun well! :):):)

Beauty, do you really want to teach John Cole how to KILL defenseless animals?????

Why???

EROS,

No I don't want to teach him that. I hate hunting but I knew my DH loved it when I met him and I knew he loved it when I married him. I took the bad with the good.

John-Cole made the decision of wanting to go with John this weekend. Of course I hope that he doesn't like it and won't go back but I have to give him that choice.

:(

Thanks, BEAUTY. I appreciate the explanation:D :D.

Of course, there WAS a time during which men hunted to feed their family. It was a matter of survival. Not so today :( :( :( ....

yer know erros...dispite yer 'lofty' education....sometimes...it works in reverse....when I was a 'youn'in'....my Dad gave me a 22....I was a natural good shot....in our backyard...I "hit" a squirrel mid air while jump'in between two tree branches.....once I saw the remains...and I realized what I 'had done'...I never wanted to KILL out of 'vanity' again...so...before you oooohhhh so readily past judgement from your white tower....consider all the possibilities first! ok? :)

We don't know that her family DOESN'T eat venison or rabbit or whatever it is...

I can just picture Beth right now sewing together some nice leather moccasins...;)

Goof,

I sincerely hope thats what happens with John-Cole. I hope it makes him sick, but if it doesn't then at least I will know I did give him that choice and he made it.

Me sew??? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I did make John mad...he has a deer head in our house
:( :( I put a Santa hat on it just to spite him....talk about your redneck Mississippi family! I would have put lights on him too if there was a plug in near:)

Okay, I'm sorry, Beauty

I misread that last sentence. I read rear for near. It was not a nice vision.

...replacing near with REAR...bwahahahahahaha!!!
Oh boy..I have to get myself to Texas!!!!:p

I wish your son the best of luck, Beauty- be that bonding with his father or taking down game. My family hunts. The rule is: If you kill it- you eat it. I have eaten and loved venison. I've also eaten rabbit, dove, quail, etc.

The meat bought in the supermarket is killed by someone. Those cows, pigs, and turkeys didn't just suddenly decide to "end it all", ya know. ;)

My dear sons want GPa to teach them to hunt. When they are old enough to respect a gun, then I will allow it. They will eat what they shoot, however.

Goofus, I knew that sooner or later I'd find SOMETHING to really like about you ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ......

dandave,

I agree! And I will say that John always eats the meat from his deer. I don't care for it that much....but I do eat hamburgers and your right its the same thing.

I agree the bonding is important and hunting is something John has always done, so it is something J.C. has seen his entire life.
J.C. WILL NOT have a gun. He will be in the box with his daddy and John is going to see how patient J.C. is and then they will go from there.

They are lucky to have private land to hunt on, so if J.C. doesn't like it he can simply go back to our Aunts house....he won't be forced to stay in the woods all day. My Aunt Sandra will probably have him at Wal-Mart by 10 in the morning:)

You're RIGHT, dandave:D :D . I wouldn't be able to work in a slaughterhouse either. I could NEVER look an animal in the eye and then kill it. Obviously, others can...........

How exactly is it "sport" to shoot a bird out of the air?????

See thats me EROS.....heck I have 5 cats that I treat like babies. They sleep with me at night! I would have a pet deer if it would stay in the backyard:) :) :) :) and John WOULD NOT be allowed to touch it!

I understand what you're saying, Eros. When I was very young I went out with a cousin and my sister. My cousin had a BB gun. I had never shot any gun before. There was a bird on this branch. I aimed and shot. The bird fell to the ground. I was sick to my stomach. I never thought for a minute that I would actually hit it, but obviously I was trying my best. I have never shot any gun since then.

I can eat the meat, but I can't kill the animal. Unless one chooses to be a vegetarian, someone has to do the "dirty work", however.
