sneaky?

Actually, pool hopping to SAB used to be allowed for DVC members styaing ON POINTS at a DVC resort. Since the opening of the BCV, that added a lot more guests using SAB, so that pool hopping priviledge for DVC members was cancelled. Perhaps that's where you saw what you did, and it led to the confusion.

When are you going to be at the BWI? We'll be at BWV from 2/22-28

Anne

We stayed Yc concierge last Sept and we never had a wristband to use SAB and they never checked our ID's.

we will be staying at BWI 22-27!
I can't wait. I did choose BW for the view not the pool. I'd rather have a better view the entire time than a nicer pool that I'd only use 1 time, but that's my priority, since we are not traveling with our little boy this time. Plus, honestly I am trying to avoid kids just a little. So we will most likely be using the boring quiet pool.
I am so surpised that even DVCers can't use SAB! Now THAT IS ridiculous! DVC is not cheap and they list pool hopping as a benefit! I can't believe a resort pool no matter how cool would have that much pull! I have walked by it before on previous stays and although it is a cool area, it's not THAT insanely special! I just think the BW pool is corny, not inferior. I don't care for it's themeing, but my little guy would probably like BW just as much as SAB. Having said that though, I always thought POFQ pool was corny too, until I stayed there. Now I think it was one of the best pools at any of the resorts I've stayed at. Maybe BW will grow on me too.

By the way, I have to say that I did feel as though I was being personally attacked there for a bit. (thanks Mike :D ) It was just a question out of curiosity and for "fun", and I know those of you who choose to stay at YC/BC feel territorial, but wow! Don't worry soon there will be a cooler newer bigger better pool somewhere else to take the heat off you guys. Just be happy you can afford to stay there and enjoy yourselves, don't worry so much about policing SAB. (though I can understand the need for now)
I really hope for the sake of the DVCers they change their rules and let them pool hop to their hearts content! They definitely deserve it!

I have to disagree about DVC'ers being able to pool hop to SAB. That pool gets VERY busy at certain times, and it's not fair to guests paying high amounts of money and BCV DVC'ers to not be able to find a chair at SAB due to pool hoppers. It was crowded before the BCV opened, it's going to be even worse now.

The pools at the GF and Poly as well as the ones at the BWV and WL are still available for pool hopping to DVC'ers, so there are plenty of choices. Those pools do not have the overcrowding problems that SAB encounters. Pool hopping is given as a benefit, but it also states that it's subject to change and restriction. Anyone who joins DVC in order to pool hop should really rethink their purchase!

And for the record, I'm a DVC owner at BCV and BWV.

I was just at the BCV, and there were still a ton of people using SAB, even in the freezing cold and even with the slide closed, so I don't think you're going to have a problem at the BW.

I think the problem is not with one particular person, but the concept that with one, comes hundreds of others that see that one doing it, and telling about it and they get the same idea.

The pool, the view, the amenities are part of the room cost and I respect that. If I don't stay there as a guest than I don't feel I should be entitled to these.

As to some, there will always be those that will scam there way into something they have not paid for, and all I can say to them is, if that is the only way you can have a decent life, then so be it. One day you will pay.

I am guilty of using the GF pool when I was staying at POFQ... we were there for hours and no one looked at us twice, but I felt guilty.

And.. I would have DIED if had been found out. Guess its not the same in comparing it to Stormalong Bay which is so popular...

On reflection of my sordid past... I would have to say the best thing to do is ask....

The worst they can say is no.

Answer me this. It suits Disney when they want you to pool hop.

I have stayed at Boardwalk when they have shut SAB. They don't think twice about sending you to Boardwalk to use thier pool. Why should I, a paying customer at Boardwalk, have to put up with everyone from YC/BC coming over to use the Boardwalk pool.

If you follow the same logic that some people have eluded to like, you didn't pay to stay at YC/BC, so don't use something you didn't pay for.

Well the people staying at YC/BC when SAB was shut down didn't pay to use the pool at the Boardwalk. What makes that right?

Did everyone staying at YC/BC get a pool shut down credit on their bill. I think not. They were told to walk over to the Boardwalk.

If you make a rule stick to that rule. Either you allow hopping or you don't. Disney shouldn't allow it when they shut down a pool.

What makes it right for them to inconvience Boardwalks guests?

Oh well. Let me have it.

Thanks for listening.

I agree, well said!

SAB is NOT shut down. The only part that is not operating normally is the slide. The BW pool was entirely shut down. Big, make that HUGE, difference.

Having been there a week ago, I can say that very few if any people were bothering to go to the BW to use the pool there. In all honesty, while the slide is nice, it's far from the only attraction at SAB. There are simply not going to be huge throngs and masses of YV/BC/BCV guests using the BW pool, which makes this entire thread moot. The OP was worried that there would be an overload of people at the BW pool, and if that was the case and SAB was quiet, could they stay there. That's simply not becoming the case, so there is no need to go to SAB.

Anne

There really isn't a way to sneak in. When we were there a couple of months ago they were very strict about checking room keys at the entrance.

I don't think you're going to have a problem with the BW pools being crowded. When we were there the quiet pool never had anyone in it, and the luna pool wasn't that bad either.

If you really want to try SAB why not change your ressie to YC/BC? ;) It should be the same rate as BWI.

If I were you and wanted to try SAB while staying at the BW, I would just simply state my case to the cm's and see what happens, chances are, under the circumstances of allowing Y&B guests to go to the Luna Park pool, they will allow you to to go to SAB.

I can see why Disney has these no pool hopping rules, because where would it end... ok you can pool hop if you are staying at another deluxe and paying the same rate....? or just everyone can pool hop, then you can pay for a value resort and use the deluxe pool.... it could turn into a very sticky situation if they bend the rules here and there...
they are just trying to keep crowd control, that's all.

Per princess angels comment,

That would be a good idea.. if deluxe resort guests were allowed to pool hop at deluxe all deluxe resorts and moderate with moderate resorts and budget with budget resorts......

Would definately make it easier

>>^..^<<

I too agree that if you are staying at a deluxe then you should be allowed to use the deluxe pools, moderates use a moderate pool, etc. That way you can do things like try out another pool, but you're still staying in the same category of resorts. For the amount that they charge you to stay at the deluxe hotels, it wouldn't hurt Disney to let you use other pools. Now, with that said, if SAB is overcrowded, maybe they could restrict pool-hopping there to value and regular seasons only, or allow YC/BC guests only to use SAB during certain times of the day. Or maybe with all of the money they get from the room rates they could build an equally nice pool at one of the other deluxes to alleviate some of the crowds at SAB.

In response to the OP, go ahead and use the SAB pool by explaining your situation so that you'll be allowed in since they seem to check IDs all the time. How do they know where you're staying at though, since none of my room keys say the name of the resort on them. Is it part of that ID code on the bottom? But I would go to SAB if you want to try it out and not worry about what others say. After all, I don't see why they're concerned since it doesn't hurt them if you use SAB. I think people should have stuck to your original question without involving their own ethics and morals over something pretty trivial. I'm sure a lot of people are opposed to my thinking, but it's just my opinion based upon the question that you asked.

Yes, your resort has a number which is part of the numerical code at the bottom of the card.

Anne

I needed a pair of water shoes and I had to be walked to the poolside shop at SAB by a cast member, he was very nice and gave us a little tour on the way over, so yes they are pretty strict.

Now having been on the other end of your question I can see why some people take it to heart.

Not having any parking available at your resort because people want to use the International Gateway to enter Epcot or ride the monorail is not FUN.

Going to the pool and not finding ANY chairs because people from let's see that day it was All Stars and Wilderness Lodge (at least those were the people who told us) decided they would like to try out ?Luna Park? is not FUN.

There comes a point when something has to be done....wristbands and 3 hr. parking passes.

It's not about people on the DIS being moral it's about being considerate.

O.K. Blast Me

I personally would not do b/c I don't think its fair. But if BW pool is mobbed with kids, why not just ask hotel guest services if its okay to use SAB? They might surprise you.
We have asked to use SAB, while sojourning in other Epcot area (DELUXE) resorts. We have never been denied or turned away. As long as you have ID from an Epcot resort (BW will suffice), they will more than likely approve. It's always better to ask first, rather than risk the embarrassment of being requested to leave the pool area, etc. JMOHO. ;)

Just to add some perspective to this: When the Scary Clown Slide (aka Luna Pool Slide) was closed for refurb in October, guests at BW were told that they could use SAB if they wanted access to a slide. This is just doing the same in reverse. I really don't see where there is room for complaint here. One deluxe resort slide is closed, so they allow people to use the slide at a nearby deluxe resort. They aren't obligated to allow any hopping. They are just trying to keep their guests happy. I imagine that if everyone complained that it was "unfair", the end result could be that the next time they need to refurb the slides, the guests staying at BW and Y/BC will be out of luck. If there weren't a ton of people hopping from Luna to SAB, I doubt there will be a huge number doing the reverse. JMHO, YMMV.
