Snakes in resorts/waterparks?

In 7 visits to WDW I have thankfully never seen a snake. I have seen plenty of lizzards and a few frogs, but the main creature we come across are squirells.....who always end up getting named Cyril!:sad2:

I trust these the least- my mum was ambushed by one of these in MK as she was eating a musli bar. It ENDED UP HANG OFF HER FINGER and a CM came to here rescue- It drew blood, she had to go to the first aid room to get it cleaned up. Only on our return did we find out from our GP that she should have had a rabies shot but the lady at first aid had said this was not needed even although I asked about it :scared1: Anyway it was 9 yrs ago so she more or less in the clear now. Since then we always eat nut free outdoors in Florida just incase :rotfl:

Wow that really is extreme musli bar eating!!! They always run away from us...I seem to have the same effect on women and squirells!:rotfl2:

OMG!!!! i grew up in the US and never encountered such a cheeky squirrel...
but as for rabies - ABSOLUTELY - squirrels are carriers of rabies...
that's one of the things they pound into your head as a kid - to stay away from them because of the rabies risk...
i can't believe disney didn't at least consult with the authorities (who are always supposed to be consulted in the case of an animal bite of that kind)..

Didnt even think about snakes! I dont know how id feel if i saw one crawl infront of me. Hope i dont see any!

DH saw a snake at the Pop Century in 2005, he was fishing the bank at Hourglass Lake one evening and a 'big snake' slithered right past his legs

Last year at Pop he went one better and hooked into a 4ft long alligator!! we still have his mangled float as a souvenir :) We also saw a duck a few days in a row which liked to swim around in the bowling pin pool

We had ducks in pool at Hampton Inn last Easter, Matt took this clip

You will notice no Karen, having a bird phobia she was back in the room by the time Matt got the camera out.:rotfl2:

if you go to the hess station that's across from the boardwalk inn - in the afternoon - there's a big family of ducks that pulls right up to one of the pumps and parks there.....just lying in the lane....it's adorable!!!

We had a black snake who lived under our ground floor balcony at OKW in December 09. We named him Sid, we noticed him on our second day and he was there til we went home (2 weeks) - he'd slither out from the same spot every day and lay in the sun. Pest control noted him one day while checking rat traps and told us he was harmless and appeared to be blind. We didn't disturb him and he didn't disturb us.

Considering I am terrified of snakes, I found him quite fascinating - though I'll admit, I didn't ever venture out on to the balcony alone! :)

We had the same room in May but he was very much gone!!

I feel I'm missing out on the snake spotting front, been three times as an adult and never seen one. Loads of lizards and those are so cute but boy do they get under your feet especially in the morning. We had to watch where we walked to miss them sadly not from us but we saw a few that did not make it.

Water bugs have seen a few of those and they are horrible. Oh and love bugs can't forget about those harmless though but they can be a right pest.

Just keep out of the bushes and if you do happen to drop anything into a bush that you need to get out do it very carefully.

I think overall Disney does a pretty good job of keeping things like snakes etc under control. Ducks at EPCOT on the other hand are a cheeky bunch if anything watch out for them. Saw them steal food from a few people. Other places have problem birds so watch when eating outside.

Being absolutely terrified of snakes, I will not be the lucky one to never encounter them. I went once before, back in 95, and never saw one then. Going back in 2 weeks, and I will likely have a ton to report. They stalk me.

If I saw one near me, I would lose my mind, and scream the place down.

We had never seen one in five trips but on our 6th trip last year we saw a few. The worst place seemed to be Summerland minigolf at Blizzard Beach. The staff said it was a black racer snake and harmless (quite big and on the course) and that they would only remove it if we were scared of snakes (we weren't but don't love them either). They said they preferred to leave them as if they don't keep the snakes in Orlando they get rats instead (yikes)

We saw one out side Typhoon Lagoon. Only time I have seen one. Luckly we were on a bus at the time.

We did have a frog on our door handle when we stayed at POR which made me scream!:rotfl:

While playing on the golf course thru OKW you are not allowed to retrieve balls from the forested areas because of snakes and alligators
When my son was about 10 he disturbed a snake in the rough on the course and managed to know his ball to within feet of an alligator at a water hazard.:laughing::laughing:

The frogs are gruesome, we had this one guarding our door at OKW.

Love that froggy, Wayne!

I'm yet to see a snake in WDW :( And I try really hard to look for them and gators.

Lots of the little lizards running about, and of course ducks. We had them in both the Grand Floridian and Boardwalk pools with us. It's a fun game to see how close to them you can quietly swim, also very cute to see their little orange feet paddling from underneath the water.

Not to be alarmist, but there was an incident involving a young boy at one of the resorts or DVCs a few years ago. They were waiting for the bus. He dropped his toy into the mulch near the bushes. When he reached in to get his toy, he was bitten by a water mocassin.

The mother posted pictures of the incident along with interesting pictures of his bite and talked about the anti venom, (sp?) It was not a great experience, but thank heaven their dear boy is fine.

Anyway, a search would easily find it. The only reason I bring it up, and she did, was to remind people NOT to put their hands in the bushes. We have gone to Disney lots, and when my kids were little they would sometimes look for geckosetc around the bushes while waiting for a bus. I can see an accident like this easily happening.

we had one of wayneg's froggies on the door at POP

my wife was also "attacked" by a ... rabbit ... lol ... on the pathways between building 2 and the Lady statue in the 50's.

the only snake we saw was a very tiny one in a bush in Gatorland.

Other than that, squirrels, squirrels, and more squirrels :)

oh, and two ducks came for a swim with us in the bowling pin pool at POP

I think i would run away from any sign of a snake

I once had a plumber (over 6ft) in to fit a handwash unit, he came running out of the bathroom area screaming "You will have to get rid of it!!!" I went in, there was a tiny spider in the sink:rotfl2:
