I have always been a reptile enthusiast. Growing up I was the kid with snakes, frogs, & turtles in my pockets. I still have 2 box turtles for pets. I've had Vinnie & Sunny for over 20 years now. Anyways, back in 1982 when I was 10 years old I found a 4 foot Yellow Rat Snake wrapped around a palm tree at the Polynesian Village. I'll never forget it..."By crikey she was a beaut!!!"
So, I was wondering if anyone else had a snake encounter on WDW property?
There was a snake in my hotel bathroom's fan, but that was off-property. Does that count? The maintenance guys said it was a coral snake, but I was too busy shrieking to really look at it.
I encountered a small snake in 1999 at the CBR. I was walking under the bridge that is in between Trinidad North and Trinidad South when I saw two people looking at something on the side of the walkway. Then I saw the snake slither away from them on the walkway toward me and I jumped. I hate snakes. Love to watch them on Discovery Channel, but not two feet away from me.
Two trips ago, DH and I saw a snake at Animal Kingdom in the Oasis area. It was rather cute, actually, until it got in the water and moved faster than we liked. We escaped at that point, since we weren't certain it wasn't poisonous (don't think it was, but never hurts to be safe)
Twice, at Typhoon Lagoon. One time just outside the entrance and the other time near the Leaning Palms restaurant. I don't know what kind of snakes they were except that they were not very big.
I really like snakes but would never touch one I couldn't positively identify.
Since my wife is petrified of snakes I always keep an eye out for them (I'm not exactly fond of them, myself) when at WDW. In all the time we've spent at the parks and resorts I've yet to see any. I'm sure they're there, though. I just hope my wife never spot one.
A few years ago while swimming at POFQ (it was just PO at the time) they had to evacuate the pool to remove a snake. Everytime I went in the water after that I kept an eye out for snakes, but in many trips back to PO and other resorts I have never seen another one.
Many years ago we were at River Country, it was the only water park on property at the time, I saw a snake on a lounge chair near the pool. I just know it was kind of bright green. I am terrified of snakes.
I had never seen a snake at WDW until our last trip...and then I saw TWO in one day!!
I saw one in the lazy river at BB and one in the water while walking back from the boat launch at Wildnerness Lodge. Neither were very big (not that I cared...I *hate* snakes) and both were on the move pretty quickly.
Considering being in Florida, there are relatively few snake encounters at WDW. The same goes for aligators. That doesn't mean they're not there. I'd be willing to bet the groundskeepers could tell a story or two.
Some years ago a CM told me that snakes tend to be more active around construction areas trying to stay away from all the equipment.
A good rule of thumb anywhere is to never step or reach anyplace you can't see.
We were laying out around the pool at OKW when we saw an indigo snake ( I think ) go by. It was a little too close to our chairs for me and I kept an eye out that it didn't come back LOL.
