SNAKE ALERT!! This one's even got me worried!

Virgo, Ted also says it's a corn snake. It looks a little bit like the snake picture he posted on the Rules for living in Florida post. The one we found was under the car in the driveway. We have an orange grove in the backyard, and luckily, that is precisely where Ted let it go.

I guess that's a lesson to us to keep our Garage closed!! YIKES! I'd have a heart attack if I came across a snake in the garage!

He has volunteered his services if you want him to drive over and get it out for you. He's not scared of snakes..... just spiders! His mom loves to tell about the time she was putting laundry away, and found his "pet" snake in his underwear drawer!

How the heck can you live there? Seriously, at the rate you post bug & snake pictures, I would have moved out ALONG time ago. Add in some hurricanes....come back to New England. We keep telling my DMIL to come back. They get THINGS in their house too. ICK!!!!

I remember going to an alligator show at Myrtle Beach a few years ago. The guy talked about snakes first - of course South Carolina is native to all of the poisonous snakes! But he made a good point that if there were no snakes, in no time we would literally be overrun with rodents because of how quickly they multiply! I remember him telling us - Who do you think gets bitten by snakes more than anyone else? The answer - golfer! They see them while playing golf and think they will beat them over the head with their golf club - while they make the first hit and lift the club up, the snake has quickly wrapped itself around the club and bites the golfer on the back! He said if you see a snake, just walk away and the snake will leave you alone.

Living here is very hard for me. Snakes keep me a prisioner in my own home. We built a terrace off the back of our house ( 2nd story level) with a doggy door so that I don't have to take my dog outside and on the ground where the snakes are. Hey, I know that's foolish but with a phobia like mine you have to deal some way and this (so far) is the only way I know how.

I'm embarrassed to say this but he was behind my dryer and that area seldom, oh what the heck, NEVER gets cleaned out. He wasn't shedding... that's just dryer fluff. It was really small. Even I was surprised how big it looks in the photo.

Nope, no strokes here. I like snakes. I like that they eat bugs. They are one of nature's most fascinating creatures.

Aww, tell him thanks. Honestly, I'm not afraid of them. That one only made me nervous because I didn't know what it was. To me snakes are like mushrooms. I'd never eat a wild mushroom because you just never know and I'd never try to pick up a snake because, well, you just never know.

As I've said before, Florida is the most beautiful place I've ever been and I'm a sucker for wild things. The snakes and bugs are amazing and I'm reminded on a daily basis that we, as human, are only renting their space. You can't really get rid of them so you'd best learn how to live in harmony with them.

I love New England and will come back for visits but there's no getting away from the fact that Florida is wonderful for people with arthritis. I can't imagine how lousy I'd feel with the spring and early summer you guys have had up there this year.

Bottom line: Heat is good... Cold is BAD!
