SNAKE ALERT!! This one's even got me worried!

Looks like a rat snake, aka as a corn snake.

While VERY similar, theya re two different snakes. It only LOOKS like an eastern diamondback, to another poster.... look closely and you see no "rattle".

I love snakes, but I can't quite make this one out. Maybe the OP can get closer and take a more zoomed in picture? ;) :teeth:

Maybe a good business to start in Florida would be Rent-A-Mongoose :teeth:.[/QUOT

I'd sign up to be their first (and best) customer! DH is out back as I type attempting to kill another snake.

ANOTHER snake?!?!?!?!?!?

I'd be curled up in a ball crying by now.......

You're right. DH says corn snakes "usually" have red or a reddish brown color but both are commonly found in orange groves here in Central FL. If I'm not mistaken, Virgo has one rather close by. :bitelip:

And yes Jen....ANOTHER one! Almost on a daily basis!

I feel something crawling all over me.....yuck!!! I can't stand snakes.

when trying to identify our snakes, we found that the corn snake and hog nose can look like a rattle snake, in michigan there is only one venomous snake and its quite rare.
In florida Id be scared if I found a snake in the garage. My aunt found one in her oven.
my dad was trimming a tree and ran into a coral snake, he ended up going to the hospital because he fell out of the tree.

It was hanging out on the top of my dryer. While it looks big in the photo, actually it was only about 1/4" across and maybe a foot long. I can't find an exact match. Some of the hognose ones look like that... some don't. Some of the rattlesnakes also look like that! :faint:

I couldn't get near enough to it to catch it or kill it so the stupid thing may still be out in the garage. It finally fell off the dryer and went behind and then under it. I have no clue where it is now.

I'm hoping that the email I just sent off to a guy with a snake site will provide some answers. I'd like to be able to go out in the garage without being scared to death. :sad2:

Here it is and remember... you were warned!

If I were you, I would head on up to Lowe's. Over in the bug section they sell SnakeAway. It comes in a white jug type bottle and I believe it costs around $9. You sprinkle this stuff around the perimeter of your garage (and maybe a little near the washer and dryer wouldn't hurt!) and it will work in repelling snakes for at least 4 months. :thumbsup2

Just imagine what a nice pair of sandals it would make....

I think these snake threads are just another ploy to keep those of us who are thinking of moving to Florida from actually packing up and moving there! :lmao:

I probably would have fainted if I saw that thing :faint:

That's also what I thought. I wish the snake guy I wrote to would write back.

Yup, right across the street. I've been out in the garage numerous times since the sighting but haven't seen anything unusual. My guess is that it's probably long gone but I'll continue to look before I touch something. The stupid thing was right on the knob you turn the dryer on with.

I didn't get the end of the tail in that photo but I'm certain I would have noticed if the snake had a rattle. At least I hope I would have noticed.

Yeah...ilovepcot is right. It's a young corn snake. This one is a gray color morph. I love these snakes because they come in such beautiful color varieties, such as greys, reds and oranges. They are rodent eaters. So they’re good to have around the house. Don't kill them they are NOT venomous. They are constrictors so they have very small teeth. THEY MAKE GREAT PETS TOO! :thumbsup2

Now how the heck am I supposed to get my towels out of my dryer?

I had a problem with a large black snake (4'-5' long) getting into my chicken house (10X12 building) and curling up in the cubby where the walls meet the roof. At that height it was just above eye level. Really creepy. I didn't go into the house to gather eggs until I could see where it was. The first time I had my chicken buddy come over and he grabbed it and we trekked through the woods quite a ways and let it go. A few months later it was back....in the same cubby. At that time, my buddy was out of town and couldn't come out. Eventually, it left after 3 days in the cubby. THEN, after about 3 weeks, it CAME BACK to the SAME cubby. I called my buddy and he came out (on his birthday no less, on his way out to dinner!) and removed it again. I told him I had had enough of this snake and to please take it with him. He took it about 1/2 mile down the road and released it.
Turns out, it was a female. She was a very calm snake. She never tried to bite him. I don't have a problem with them when they're on the property. It's when they ENTER my "property" that I have issues with. CREEPY!

They really are beautiful. I like to leave snakes alone, well other than taking their picture. Amazing the different colors corn snakes come in. I've left the garage door open all day in the hopes that it finds its way out and goes back to doing what snakes do. :teeth:

Virgo10-
I'm so glad you're not having a stroke. The first time I went to WDW in 1984 (my sig picture), I found a 3-foot yellow rat snake at the Poly. He was wrapped around a palm tree. Rat snakes are close cousins to your corn snake. That was one of the highlights of my Disney experience. :woohoo: We used to live in Phoenix where there are so many encounters with rattlesnakes (particularly western diamondbacks). You're so right, snakes try there hardest to avoid humans and the best thing to do is to let them do their thing, and maybe take a few good pictures. You're smart to leave the garage door open. You probably will never see him again. From your picture he seamed to be shedding at the tail. So my guess is that he just wanted someplace cool and secure to shed his skin. They feel a little vulnerable when shedding. I hope this helped and I wish you the best.:wave2:

I'm embarrassed to say this but he was behind my dryer and that area seldom, oh what the heck, NEVER gets cleaned out. He wasn't shedding... that's just dryer fluff. :rotfl: It was really small. Even I was surprised how big it looks in the photo.

Nope, no strokes here. I like snakes. I like that they eat bugs. They are one of nature's most fascinating creatures.
