For whatever reason there seemed to be confusion on what constituted a snack on the DxDP.

We each get 2 per person per day so on a 6 night trip 5 people we had 60 snack YIKES!

The confectionary on main street seemed to give us the most trouble. First they said it had to be a single serving then they said well it had to be under $5. Which is it? Ran into the same problem at DHS until finally a manager of some sort said no its a snack. I can understand that HUGE chocolate covered apple wouldn't be included but why would a peanut butter oreo snadwhich be covered and not a pink iced flip flop cookie. Anyone else ever run into any issues like this? BTW Peanut butter filled Oreo sandwich PHENOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its not true that snacks have to be under $5 to be considered a snack. i've had many items well over $5 that counted as snacks! For example, chili cheese fries at POP food court is considered a snack. Soup is also. Maybe the CM that tells you no is new? Lol. I would ask to speak to a manager if they give you a hard time.

It really is up to each location...and many of them are good about putting up the Purple dining plan logo on the items that qualify so you'll know before ordering. But some places do not have everything marked.

For a very long time the general "rule of thumb" was a snack item was around $4 or less...but that is not a hard & fast rule, and as they raise prices, some places are still allowing some items that are slightly over $4. Like chili cheese fries & soup (which are both $4.49...or that's the price they were in February of this year at Magic Kingdom locations...at resort food courts, it's also $4.49 for the chili cheese fries as of 1/2011...and the soup was around $3.00.) Also, for the last several years the "single serving" rule has been in effect.

Now, we have also run into a number of items under $4 which were not allowed...for example, the biscuits & gravy at breakfast at POFQ resort. The item was priced at $3.49 but was not allowed for a snack credit because it was a "plated entree item" (that was the manager's explanation, anyway) There were some packaged candies at a gift shop that were less than $4 but were not allowed because the package said "family size" or something like that.

When in doubt, just ask!

This seems to be something we have to accept we will never fully understand.

All that remains consistent is that the item has to cost under $5 (used to be $4)

BUT, just because it is under $5 does not automatically class it as a snack. Catne gave the answer in the above post: it is down to the discretion of each location. Another POFQ example - last year DD was looking at those Disney suckers on the stand in the gift shop. There were the very large rounds ones and the giant long ones. The long suckers were counted as a snack but the round ones were not. Both were the same price.

I find our lives are a lot easier by using the approach that if it's listed as a snack, you're good; if it is not listed and is under $5 ask. If you ask and the answer is yes today, don't expect the next CM at the same location to say yes tomorrow. Basically if it is not marked as a snack and they say yes, it's a bonus.

Sorry everybody it is all my fault the one serving snack came to be. DW and I for a few years would get a box of Entenmann's donuts, it was under $4, this was great for 1 SC, DW and I could have donuts for 2 mornings for breakfast, 2 breakfasts for 1 SC, WOW Disney couldn't have that. Every body was sitting around with a box of donuts, O well still like the donuts so we buy them now and use the SC for something else (for 1 person). We usually got the School bread, 1 SC, it use to be large & could be cut in half and shared, well now is much smaller they fixed that. But all in all love Disney and going 2 times this year.

Yep, maybe no more SC donuts but the best place for use is at the Food and Wine Fest. in EPCOT my favorite is the crab cake at the Hops and Barley Kiosk

I have made a note of that - thank you We will be there for the F&W this year and I love crab cake.

I never knew that, although I guess it stands to reason that the CMs there would need some sort of guide. If only we could get them to publish the listing for us ....
