I know in the past I've read that many of you rave about snack food that can be bought at the department store in Japan. On my last trip I went in, figureing I'd pick up some. When I saw just how many food items they sell, I realized I was short on information and bought nothing. So, how about it? What snacks should I be buying in Japan?

I'd stick to the sweeter, candy-type items. Unless you have a taste for shrimp chips or seaweed, avoid the savory items! Some items I like to buy in Japan are Pocky (cookie sticks dipped in chocolate and nuts), these chocolate filled Koala bear cookies, and chocolate covered gummy strawberries. There are many varieties of each snack, so you can try lots of different stuff. Have fun!

the to die for snacks are so addicting that I buy at least 15 pkgs to take home......and now I get my supply from the distributor for epcot ....in JAPAN ....they are called Haki Chili Bits....but they are like a hot rice cracker......they are so good and not wicked hot.....but a little zing to them......I am in the midst of ordering some more .......MY MOST FAVORITE snack

The rice crackers are pretty good, different shapes, sizes and flavors. I find the dried fish and little crabs kind of gross looking, but I tried the crabs and they were pretty good, but kind of salty. I wouldn't touch the dried peas on a bet, but I don't care for peas in general, anyway. :p

Mmmm... Pocky is one of my favourite. :p If you live near an Asian supermarket, you'll be able to find most of the same snack food there, often at half the price.

The Botan rice candy is one of my favorites!!! It has an edible outside wrapper that melts in your mouth!!! The only place that I can find this is at Epcot, so I get at least 10 boxes every trip!!!:p

Austins mommy... Thank you for mentioning this! I used to live in seattle wash, and in the asian food area of our grocery, we could buy little boxes of these! I have not lived there for 10 years, and had forgotten all about them until i read your post!
I am sooo excited now! I will definitely be getting these! My kids will think they are sooo cool!
Thanks!

I do like the dried peas. One kind is plain, but the other kind has a little kick to them. Not too hot, but a little spicey. They also have a Japanese type trail mix with rice crackers, peas, peppers and other things in it. I guess I like the crunchy stuff.

Ohhhh, we love the Pockys. WE bought the chocolate ones and some strawberry ones. My s-i-l is Japanese so we got introduced to them through her. Now we stock up on them when we get to WS!!!
And those must be wasabi peas you're talking about. Yum.
