We are booked on the Wonder in March of 2009. We selected Stateroom 6634 (ondeof the hidden verandah rooms -- we are SO excited!). One of the reasons we chose this room is because it is on the starboard side, which at the time was the side with fewer smoking areas, not counting verandahs, of course. DH has a lung disease (sarcoidosis) and DD has just diagnosed with asthma. Now that the "smoking side" has changed, should we switch to a port side room? Does anyone who has sailed on a deck 6 aft room have input on how much smoke you really get from the smoking decks? Or should we stick with the room we really want? Thanks!!!

I fully understand why you are asking this question,

From the deck you are on, I do not think the change on deck 9 will have any effect on you at all, that deck is generally sealed in and a few decks above you. Smoke, if any will travel up or towards the Aft, not downwards. I would stick with the side you like.

Smoking on the starboard side refers to decks 4, 9 and 10. Smoking on verandas is still allowed no matter what side of the ship or deck its on. I say, stick with your room. It won't really matter.

Just avoid the starboard side on the decks mentioned above and you should be fine. Honestly, we didn't really notice a lot of smoking on our cruise. It was much more noticeable when you got into port.

I would stick to the room you really want! I doubt that smoke from deck 4 is going to increase dramatically, and that would be the only real difference. Smoking on verandahs may increase, but that would be on either side.

BTW, I just booked 7620, another secret verandah room! Enjoy!

I too wouldn't bother to change. The decks where the smoking will be happening (other than verandah neighbors smoking of course, but that can happen on either side of the ship) will not affect staterooms above or below.

We would be interested in answers to this question too, as that is OUR chosen cabin for up-coming July 08 cruise(and I am highly sensitive to smoke). We have had this area (one deck higher but same cabin type and location) in the past with no issues. But that was prior to the new changes. So I would like to join you in asking for what others think about the impact the new regs will have on our mutual room (it is too late for us to switch now, as we are much closer to sail date and need an inside cabin nearby for dd (24)and her friend - her first time in her OWN cabin:wizard: )

Isn't 6634 very aft? If I recall right, the way deck 4 is set up there isn't anywhere really to smoke that far aft. There is a lot of equipment and stuff and a lot of it is really kind-of covered once you go aft of the aft elevator area. So I wouldn't think smoke drifting up would be an issue.

Yes, it is aft of the aft elevators. You are right!
