Has anyone else noticed there seems to be more people walking around and smoking? I have been an AP for many years and it seems that this has gotten much worse recently. I absolutely do not judge anyone for their choices but I really do not want my family exposed to second hand smoke. I have actually gotten a CM to ask a guest to put it out as he was blowing smoke right at us during Wishes.

Maybe they need to put back in some of the smoking areas they eliminated and make the signage for them more obvious as it used to be.

Then smokers have a place to go and non smokers know to avoid those spots.

Exactly this. For example, there are only 3 in MK now. And to show just how smart they are about it....I can sit and smoke directly next to the Castle yet they removed the one next to the gag-inducing Speedway. Go figure. :rolleyes1

BTW -we never smoke in non-designated areas. :thumbsup2

Off the top of my head (unless they have recently changed)...

Landing by BTMRR
On boardwalk next to Rivers of America in FrontierLand
Directly across from Aloha Island
On path to Castle past Sleepy Hallow
Other side of castle near Wishing Well
Near the bathrooms in Tomorrowland
On path from Tomorrowland to NFL

I don't smoke, but I've had to walk through/past all these places on trips.

I agree--people seem to be smoking everywhere. And though there are a lot of international guests, the people I have encountered were most definitely from the USA. One thing I'm wondering, though, is how many of them are actually using e-cigs...they look very much like real cigarettes if you're seeing them from the side (straight on it's fairly easy to see their is no flame, just a light...and some of them are unusual color "flame tip" like blue.)

One guy on a scooter, in the handicapped area for parade viewing, pulled out an e-cigarette and started puffing away on that. The people around him objected and he just kept on, loudly saying "it is NOT A CIGARETTE. That is NOT SMOKE" but a castmember did come tell him he could not use any type of cigarette, vapor or smoke, in the handicapped area. He huffed about how he was going to Guest Services, etc. But he did stop using it.

Wonder if anyone knows what the actual rule is at Disney--are the e-cigs allowed outside of the smoking areas?

The RoA and Liberty Square locations were removed and the one near the Tomorrowland bathrooms was relocated to behind the face painting station and out of public view.

I don't know if there is a written rule, but on most of the threads like this I've seen people say the CMs direct E smokers to the smoking area.

Unless I counted incorrectly there are only 3 shown on the new map. I can't see the pictures while here at work but this thread shows the new map and I think I remember 3 when I looked at it yesterday.

Disney is creating this problem they keep moving and reducing smoking areas. If they want people to smoke in designated areas they need to quit reducing them and moving them

There also seems to be one near the Plaza restaurant. So that is 6 in total. Spread out enough throughout the park.

I've recently stopped smoking cigarettes by using an e-cig/vap. Have also been curious of the policy. I don't have a problem with being away from others per say, and or non intrusive, but I really don't want to be grouped in with the second hand smoke either. I quit real ones for a reason:rolleyes2 . Our trip is in August so I don't foresee a huge problem as I use my vap a lot less that I ever smoked and feel I'll be off nicotine "juice" by then anyway. Just another perspective...

I must be oblivious or lucky because I never see anyone smoking. I would be annoyed if someone was doing it at a show or in line though.

From a fellow quitter who uses an e-cig, I've pretty much prepared myself for using DSA's at the parks if I want to use it and I'm ok with that. But someone else I know using one has an issue with sitting with the smokers to use hers as she is worried it is going to get her started again. Everyone is different and while I have no inclination to start again by standing next to someone smoking, this is not that case for everyone. But as I said, I understand why they have had to have a policy about it. And really, at least they have a policy so you can plan accordingly. Every airport, hotel, restaurant etc I've come across appears to have no policy so nobody knows what they can and can't do and that makes it really hard to plan. Congratulations on quitting though :thumbsup2

i vap as well and our last trip i had just started because i wanted to quit smoking, i should be off the vap before our next trip.(ya me) But yes i did use the smoking sections one time i didnt a very rude cm (not rude for asking me to not do it , but the way she scolded me) pounced on me. I only did it outside the smoking section after several other cms and smoking guests told me i could since it wasnt a cigarette. (apparently they were wrong LOL) But anyways good luck with you vaporizing it has helped me a lot! I noticed if i sat towards the entrance to the smoking section it wasnt as bad. Go in puff a few times and on my way much different then when your a smoker and want to get every ounce of nicotine out of an expensive cigarette. I spent a lot less time in a smoking section then i have on previous trips.

I can believe it. I also find that instead of waiting for a whole cigarette to burn through, I grab one or two puffs off the vape and I'm gone. No need to hang around. I can live without it during the park day. It's still a very gray area though as to permissions and I'm a little surprised that with them becoming increasingly popular, there is not a more widespread, consistent e-cig policy. Tbh I don't really care what it is - I abided very strictly by any smoking rules, both actual rules and just generally trying not to be selfish - but it would be nice to just know what you and and can't do and when and where, lol.

a sudden, heavier than normal influx.

The DSAs OTOH, have been decreasing every year and are not always indicated properly on the maps. If Disney wants smokers to confine their nefarious activity to the DSAs they need to make them numerous enough and better identified.

This! So much this!

And to add to what you've said, they are also really terrible with moving them with no warning so that the actual designated areas do not correspond with the ones on the park map. I remember standing behind the castle one afternoon and noticing a DSA there and thinking how odd that I'd not seen it before. A few hours later I passed by and though I might just head over and light up and the trash can with the ashtray was gone and the Fairy Godmother was there with a bunch of kids doing meet and greets :confused3 Later in the trip I saw the ashtray return randomly. This is just one of many examples of the mobile DSAs

I just counted 4. I agree that they need to put some back. I hate it when they are right in the walking paths. Even at the resorts. There are a lot of nice places, that could be smoking areas, out of the way of people coming and going.

So I guess this means we won't see a hookah parlor in Morocco, then...?
