Smoking in Parks

We noticed that the amount of people smoking wherever they like in the theme parks has increased vastly. I know that smokers have the same rights as non smokers but what is annoying me is that the people who work at disney are doing nothing about it, as a matter of fact they were turning away instead of asking them to stub out and smoke in the correct place. Rant over.

Yep, we noticed the same thing ourselves last September in Epcot. wouldnt mind but their supposed to stick to the designated areas. :headache: and the cm's did nothing about it...

I hate that. When I smoked, I like to think I was always very considerate of other people to the point where I wouldn't even light up at a DSA if I thought it was too near to lots of other people.

So it really annoys me that others can't afford the same courtesy. And now I am an (anti) ex smoker, it annoys me even more.

I actually thought it was prohibited in all the parks in the US. I know they still do in DLRP and it's very frustrating, even in open air I get treary eyes and a hurting throat right way.

There are designated areas in the parks. Guests are supposed to stay there when they smoke, not smoke in the general vicinity of where they think its okay. I would never dream of walking around with a cigarette in a Disney park. Cigarettes burning in a person's hand, swinging around as they walk are right at a child's eye level.

I don't know why CMs don't reinforce it. They should! Although I was getting something out of my backpack once at MK in Frontierland and there were a couple of people smoking nearby and a CM came and told them to put it out and move. I think it depends who catches the culprits.

Nver saw smoking around the parks on our December trip..only time I noticed smoking in the park was having our dole whip - there is a designated smoking area near there.

Now DLRP is another story!

I have never seen it either around the parks, barring that one time. I have seen CMs caution people smoking 'nearby' the DSA at a resort though. I think it is good. Not only for the non smokers but at least when I stand in a DSA I know I have a right to be there and those who are there are neither going to be offended nor complain :)

Ditto :thumbsup2

DLP has only had DSA for a relatively short time, but that is no excuse for CM's and guests ignoring the new rules.

Last year at WDW we noticed very little smoking except at DSA. I was quite impressed by this.
Sadly though smoking throughout the park had increased when we were at the parks this summer.
Perhaps guests should be complaining more to CM's and City Hall in order for something to be done about this :headache:

I do wish they would put the DSA's at resorts a bit more out of the general flow of traffic. We've often had 'the look' whilst standing as close to the ashtray as possible as a lot of them are right by door ways (I think SSR was the worst, Grandstand area and it was right outside the main door!)
As a smoker I'm happy to go out of the way.

I completely agree. I learned not to get bothered by the fake coughs (no I am not implying in any way that people are not affected by smoke because I know that many have genuine issues) and very loud remarks made by passers by. Now there are 2 sides to this. We are where we are supposed to be, but to be fair, it's not always the best place we could be.

That must be me! :lmao:
and I'm an ex smoker!!!

:rotfl2: You're quite right. If everyone stayed where they SHOULD be and avoided where they shouldn't be, things might run a bit more smoothly. I have always said ex smokers are tougher critics than non smokers. ;) I can assure you, you wont find me smoking oustide a DSA, or for that matter, even in non DSAs which are 'open' places. I smoke MUCH less at Disney because I am too busy doing fun things to go hunting around for a smoking spot.

What is weird is that they are so hard to find, yet if you don't want them, they seem to be everywhere.

It really annoys us too to see people smoking just anywhere in the parks. We are both smokers and we always go in the DSA's - we wouldn't dream of doing otherwise. Smoking is our choice but we are very mindful that it isn't other people's choice.
