Smoking Ban

I think there really is some misdirected anger, not many people like the smell of smoke or vapor, I don’t think that smokers even do. I understand there are people who smoke/vape outside of the designated areas, that is absolutely wrong, 100% no excuse. I agree with everyone here on that aspect of it. But what I also don’t agree with is the high traffic areas that Disney usually put smoking areas in. 2 examples at Sports the biggest smoking section is right outside the cafeteria, Pop,also has one right outside the doors of the cafeteria on the opposite wall. If the areas where better placed a lot of the issues people have now wouldn’t be there. Again I know smoking stinks and is horrible for the person doing it and everyone around them. But when the areas are right next to the main areas your going to have issues.
Magic kingdom has had smoking areas on the walkway from space mountain to the goofy coaster, not off the path, the path was the smoking area, they also used to have smoking areas in the middle of Adventureland. Again no excuse smoking sucks, Disney never really had a well thought out plan for smoking areas. Now that they will be in one place it could be better, but if the placement again is poorly thought out it will be the same thing as it was before just outside the park. Having 1 area for all the smokers is going to stink to high heaven.

I know it's hard sometimes to read someone's emotions or intent on the Internet. So to be clear there is no anger or really any emotion in my reply's to you. I'm just strongly disagreeing that this ban will effect WDW's business.

You are correct that the placement of some of the current smoking areas are not good. More than once we've unknowingly walked into a smoking area and been bombarded with unwanted smoke. Mostly our fault for not seeing the signs, but they aren't always easily noticeable on a crowded day.

I have spent the last hour reading though this thread and I am certainly in the minority.

I am a smoker and am truly devastated by this news. It is not feasible to walk from the back of the park to outside of security every few hours. All of the smoking areas are completely out of the way of guests unless you are looking for them (With the exception of Italy). I am overly conscientious about where I smoke, even in places that don't have restrictions, I sneak off to a corner where there aren't any people so I don't bother anybody. The only reason I am not canceling our 2 upcoming trips this year is our AP passes are already paid for. We will not be renewing them.
I am not going to spend thousand upon thousands of dollars a year to waste hours walking in and out of the park to have a cigarette. As much as I love Disney, it's just not worth it. We love Vegas too and they are very welcoming to us.

I realize that most of you can't understand this unless you have an addiction. It's not as easy as telling myself that I can't have a smoke. I would be miserable. The only way I have every been able to make people understand it is comparing it to being overweight. Most people have struggled with weight in their lives and the solution is really very simple. Stop overeating, eating junk food and exercise. If it was as easy as it sounds 40% of Americans wouldn't be obease.

I wasn’t taking it that way at all, I was just making sure I was on the same page as you. I definitely didn’t take it badly at all. I don’t think U.S. guest will be effected by it much I think the international guesses will be where the losses come from.

I'm absolutely amazed by the amount of people who seem offended by this new rule and are changing their plans. My husband has verbalized his dislike but has also said he will just smoke less then. No big deal and he's a heavy smoker. I agree with the ban. I do think it will increase the number of rule breakers but the outrage and offense blows my mind.

This. I also think it's laughable that they're commenting on FB and posting here as though we care. Sorry, I'm not going to miss your nasty cigarette smoke :confused3 No one forces you to smoke, and no one forces you to spend your money at Disney.

I am not a smoker and I truly hate the smell, but my dh is a smoker and has had a truly hard time stopping. I cant tell you how many times he asked the kids if the want to ride space mountain or something close cause the smoking area was behind it. It was so frustrating it became like it was domanating our day... addiction for you..
With todays news my dh told me I guess I need to try harder before our trip next year. So I am hoping that this news helps him quit. Or i dont know how I will handle his mood at wdw.
This struck a cord with me. My dad was an alcoholic. A good dad otherwise. Not abusive. A good provider. Addiction is addiction. It affects all who love the addict.

Agree completely. Our APs expire in October. Always automatically renewed. Disney is our happy place...or it was. Now, we're not sure what we'll do. This is just over the top ridiculous. Hubby & I are SUPER bummed & upset.

Good analogy on the obesity epidemic & "just stop overeating."

Why post if you don’t care? No one forces you to post here either.

The comment I was responding to didn't get posted along with my response, but it was regarding their surprise about just how many people were planning to cancel over this. I find it surprising too. Smokers are not forced into either of those things, but the rest of us are forced to deal with the second hand smoke when passing designated smoking areas, or park goers who chose to forego them and smoke where they please. THAT is what I care about.

I don’t disagree with the message just not with the way the message is presented. You’ve already said you don’t care and find it laughable but still stir the pot. If you don’t care why post?

Could just do what Tokyo Disneyland does, which is demonstrably better run than WDW in every way......and lets people smoke. In designated spots. And enforces it. Shocking solution.

DrInKiNg Is FuN aNd SoCiAl

Drinking is nasty and I want nothing to do with it. People act like idiots when they are drunk, without exception, wine moms to 21 year old frat boys.
I'm sorry that is the experience you've had. Not everyone who drinks gets drunk. People can have a drink or two and can enjoy responsibly. You've just label everyone because of something you don't enjoy.

Who? That's not what I've been reading. Most people have been respectful of smokers in general. A few posts have not but I haven't seen a whole lot of judgement. People have been discussing the policy.
I’d say it’s 50/50. The reason I called the post out is because is easier to absolve drinking then it is smoking/vaping.
I can have a vape responsibly,in the designated area and not bother anyone. Not everyone who smokes bothers people, a lot are very responsible. I’d list all the posts but I don’t really have the energy or the time. I wasn’t referring to any of your posts I feel for you, you’ve got to hang out with a non smoking smoker.

May 1st- so no big strollers, no smoking. I wonder if there are other changes coming??

I’m glad they are making the parks a slightly more enjoyable experience (smokers will be outside the park, weren’t there actually some lawsuits with people who were run over by some things people bring into Disney? etc.) —maybe trying to reduce complaints perhaps?

I’m curious if there are MORE restrictions coming around the corner... no outside food/drinks? no large bags/or only see through bags.

Any thoughts?
Paid FP are coming.
