Before I visited France last week, I had read threads here about the terrible smoke at DLP. Then I found one that said smoking is not allowed in restaurants as of January, 2008. I'm here to tell you that the French restaurants are wonderfully smoke free! I wish all the restaurants at home would be, too.

Even in the parks, I rarely saw anyone smoking. A few people in line for Crush lit up, but they were pretty much it for people smoking outside of designated areas. And I never accidently ran into a designated smoking area (as I do at WDW) so they must be planned well and away from the normal paths of traffic.

At this point, I'd say France and DLP are way ahead of us in smoking / nonsmoking comfort.

I didn't know DLRP had designated smoking areas - like you, I never saw any.

I did see quite a few people smoking whilst walking around the parks though. I don't remember seeing anyone smoking in any of the restaurants there, even from my first ever visit in February 2007.

That's really encouraging to read. :thumbsup2 The designated smoking areas have only just been allocated. They are shown in this article here on DLRP Magic.

Thank you for posting that! Even before the new laws in France, I never understood how I apparently visit a different DLRP than many others appear to visit. ;)

The Disney run restaurants have been non-smoking for quite some time; the non-Disney run ones had to change over this year to comply.

We are just back from the resort. And yes all restaurants are non-smoking. (And all hotels are too)
And I also have the impression that the smoking situation is not so bad anymore in the resort. (People smoke less in the resort, because there are now strickter non-smoking rules in France)

But guests still smoke everywere. And we have NEVER seen anyone (during our 4 days) using the smoking areas! The ash-trays over there have only to be cleaned once a month.

And CM's are also saying nothing. But I think they are not allowed to (yet). As this new rule with the smoking areas is still very new I think they will give this a little bit more time. And maybe in some month CM's are also allowed to "inform" quests that smoking is only allowed in designated areas. :thumbsup2

I didn't see anyone smoking in the restaurants either. Have to say I didn't notice any designated smoking areas at all, although since I don't smoke perhaps I wouldn't. I definitely did see quite a few people smoking though, with little regard for other people - for instance standing watching the parade, with children next to them. Had to pull my daughter out of the way sharply 3 times as well since at 3 her eyes are just the right height for someone walking along trailing a cigarette behind them.

I went to DLP last week expecting the worst after reading here about the horrible smoking problems. I just didn't experience that at all and wanted to let people know that I was impressed with DLP and the smoke free atmosphere! I'm pretty sensitive to smoke and I really didn't have a problem at all on my trip.

That's great to hear. I hate cigarette smoke anywhere near me! Sure hope I have a smoke-free visit, as I don;t think I could wait in a line with a smoker near me!

I also didn't experience the horrible line jumpers that I read about in this forum either. There were people there speaking all languages, some that I couldn't even identify! But the vast majority were polite and orderly (although some were certainly louder than others.) No major line jumping issues. I heard one comment about "special treatment" when a family was escorted through the Crush line but I figured I had no idea why a CM was leading them ahead so it wasn't line jumping to me.

Yeah, you never know, maybe they had waited for like an hour earlier in the day, just to have it break down or something. Doesn't sound like 'special treatment' to me, just good disney service. :-)

Thank you for letting us know that you had a positive experience at DLP. It's encouraging to know that I've not been kidding myself all these years, and don't walk round DLP with rose tinted glasses on!!! Like Bavaria, this is the DLP that I've always been lucky enough to visit! Glad you enjoyed your trip. :goodvibes

this is one of the best bits of news i have read!!

me and my DW went to dlp xmas 06 while the dw was pregnant with my DS (now 18 months)

we found the smoking in the restaurants / bars / parks to be very signiificant and the only unpleasant memory of a nice time.

We have booked our trains for xmas (got them for £65 each return from london direct) and we are just about to sort out which hotel!!

glad to hear its non-smoking now.

I have just arrived back from a stay at DLRP with my DW, and we were very pleased to find the hotels, bars and restaurants non-smoking.

But we both found that smoking is still a problem in both parks with the designated smoking areas being ignored, but this was mostly at the weekends.

We did not find many people smoking in the lines for the rides and shows, as most of the line up areas are under cover. But a lot of people were just walking around with lit cigarettes.

I hope that eventualy DLRP is going to become smoke free, but it will take some time. The new smoking rules in France only came in this year and as visitors come from may places in Europe where smoking rules differ it is just going to take some time.

I have to say, we only noticed smoking the lofty 'outdoor' areas when we were there, so it wasn't such a big problem! :goodvibes

Just returned yesterday. It was never inside or in the queues, thankfully, but an awful lot of people were wandering about the parks smoking.

Even if i was a smoker (and this is probably going to show how much of a non smoker I am) I don't think my brain would have time to realise I needed a cigarette in Disney, I jsut get too excited!!
