Smoking Area's in the Parks....

I know they would never get rid of it, but they definitely need to enforce the DSA more. They could hire me and have that as my only duty, I'd be ok with that. LOL :)

Visitors who don't observe the DSA use rules wouldn't observe a smoking ban either, so I'm not sure what it would accomplish. :confused3

I don't see WDW completely banning smoking. Even Canada's Wonderland (an amusement park in Ontario) still has smoking areas.

Smoking Policy
For the comfort of all our guests, smoking is not permitted in any areas except designated smoking areas. There is no smoking in KidZville and Planet Snoopy, or any restaurants, outdoor patios, live entertainment venues (International Showplace, Kingswood Music Theatre and the Action Theatre), or shops.

There are six designated smoking areas in the Park located in the following areas:
Outside the Main Entrance,
At the entrance of Medieval Faire,
At the south side of International Street,
By Swings of the Century,
By the exit of Skyrider,
And inside Splash Works by the entrance of Body Blast.
Designated smoking areas are clearly marked. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Calculated in my head, so may be slightly off, but 20.58% http://www.12keysrehab.com/blog/wp-...04/12-keys-percentage-of-smokers-by-state.jpg I added all the percentages and divided by 50.
What's a rite of passage trip?

That's the hard way to try to figure it out, and can lead to math errors, much simpler to just use the CDC stat:
"18.1% of all adults (42.1 million people)" (data for 2012, from April 2014 report)
http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/fast_facts/

I would love it if Disney completely banned smoking in their parks.

But I know that will never happen, so I wish they would enforce the darn rules they already have and not continue to look the other way when people walk around smoking. I see it multiple times on every single trip.

People believe because they are outside they can smoke wherever they want to and Disney needs to step up and enforce their rules.

Just make sure you look at all sides here. It's easy to want to ban somethin you don't do or like but it doesn't affect you. My wife smokes, I hate it but if you banned smoking we either couldn't go or she'd be a limit if 2 days in. Would that help people who hate smoking? I am sure it would, but here things as a newlywed man that bothers me that if hear were banned I would not care but maybe you would:

1) parents who yell at kids, parents who hold up lines for their darling angels, parents who complain when rules apply to them.

2) parents who have severely autistic or mentally handicapped children that love to scream, hit, rub themselves, spit, pick their nose (or other places around back)

3) 12-18 year old girls who are dressed like a hooker

4) ECV/wheelchair people who get to line cut for busses or who force rides to stop so they can get on and off

5) people who use strollers. Imagine all the room in disney withou all the parking lots.

6) people who wear glasses, I hate those things.

I think an outright ban is going to far. My mom would never again be able to visit the parks, as she is addicted to smoking. And as she has smoked for over 50 years I don't see her quitting any time soon, as much as I would like her to.

I do agree that the smoking areas should be more thoughtfully placed, and that better signing and enforcement of the DSAs is in order.

Disney rules state e-cigarettes must be used in designated smoking areas.

Which is ridiculous. I use my eCig specifically to quench my urge for a cigarette, why should I be lumped in with a large group of smokers when that's what I'm trying to resist?

My water vapor & scented puffs aren't "annoying" and I intentionally go out of my way to not do it around other people but I shouldn't be forced to seek out a smoking area for the two-three quick puffs it takes me to get right. It's no different than the "sprays" of scents disney pushes on Main St. in Magic Kingdom or on the "It's Tough to Be A Bug"/Stitch ride.

E-Cigarettes Expose People to More Than ‘Harmless’ Water Vapor

But smoking DOES affect you, even if you don't smoke, so your whole argument is irrelevant.

Again, I don't think a ban would ever happen, but the smoking outside of designated areas needs to be addressed.

Sorry, but I do find the smell of e-cigs annoying. The few I have smelled do not smell good at all. And unless you want a CM stopping every guest who has an E-Cig and double checking what they are smoking, having them go to the DSA is the smartest thing to do.

Yeah, they are.

I actually think it’s a bit crazy to ban smoking even though I find it terrible and wish all would quit, but that’s is a personal choice and should not be dictated by others That said only hole in your analogy is none of the item’s you listed harm the participants or any 3rd parties like smoking does.

ECigs can have flavors and that's probably what people are smelling. I don't find them any worse than most perfumes and turkey legs personally.

What a misleading title. The article discusses the "dual" smoker that does both smoke real and electronic cigarettes while also mentioning that there are no current biological effects shown from an eCig's use. The only thin it even remotely mentions is that they should be under the same rules indoors as cigarettes. I don't think people are going to vape on Seven Dwarves Mine Ride.

I'm not sure we read the same article??

They also found that while the data are still limited, e-cigarette emissions “are not merely ‘harmless water vapor,’ as is frequently claimed, and can be a source of indoor air pollution.

“E-cigarettes do not burn or smolder the way conventional cigarettes do, so they do not emit side-stream smoke; however, bystanders are exposed to aerosol exhaled by the user,” said the authors. Toxins and nicotine have been measured in that aerosol, such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acetic acid and other toxins emitted into the air, though at lower levels compared to conventional cigarette emissions.

Short-term exposure studies of e-cigarette use show a negative impact on lung function and bystanders absorb nicotine from passive exposure to e-cigarette aerosol, the authors report.

The world is full of annoying smells, get over it.

I find most children annoying and their parents moreso for how they parent them but I keep my comments to myself and move on.

Here's a fun "fact", you digest more chemicals on a daily basis than my eCig does to you in passing, if at all.

You may not like Disney's rules, but you still need to follow them. So maybe you are the one who needs to "get over it", as you put it.

Not in favor of a smoking ban, but if would love it if CMs really enforced the smoking rules in place. A smoker in the back of the park would be due for their next cgi by the time they walked to the front, smoked, and walked back to their family!

Just avoid the smoking areas and hopefully you wot encounter guests who are walking and smoking. I really didn't notice more than 1 or 2 my whole trip.

@_@

Chill pills. Discuss them with your doctor.

A complete ban on smoking would likely result in a 20% drop in attendance (based on the % of smokers just in this country). Fine with me if Disney were to eject people smoking outside the designated areas, but not a complete ban.

Walt Disney World isn't an outdoor patio, playground, sports field, etc. As a theme park/business, it wouldn't be 'lumped in' with the places you list.

20% drop in attendance? Woohoo! In one fell swoop, Disney could save lives, eliminate an irritant for 80% of their guests, and significantly reduce the wait time for rides.

Maybe they could ban smoking for one day as a FP+ experiment :)
