hi

Can anyone tell me how busy Dollywood and the smokey mountain area is over the 4th of July?

thanks for your help

Carol

I went the weekend of the 4th one time and would NEVER do it again. Besides it being a big travel area anyways 4th of July is a BIG deal in that town. It is wall to wall traffic and people. As much as I love the area there is no way I'd do it again.

Just going any Friday to Sunday from Spring to Winter is INSANE--no way I would do it on a holiday. It can take you an hour to just go a mile or so along the main drag.

thanks for the info. I think I will try another week. Sounds like it might be my best bet to arrive on a Sunday night and leave early Friday

Absolutely! :thumbsup2 In the summer it is pretty bad all week, but Friday afternoon to Sunday evening is bad.

Lots of fun things to do though! Have a great time!

Another way to beat the crowds is to avoid the popular spots, i.e., Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Stay in Townsend, for example, and hike the national park instead of visiting Dollywood, and you'll still hit crowds, but it won't be as bad.

Thats what I was going to say..lol...
We go the 'back way' into townsend & avoid the sevierville & pigeon forge traffic...There is a road that goes through Alcoa & Maryville I believe it is 321? A little longer but no traffic to sit in..:thumbsup2
We're going down in 3 weeks..Sunday through friday would be a better time to go & cheaper too..

I've gone there twice over fourth of July weekend and had a blast! We stayed in a condo up on ski mountain, so we could go back to relax in privacy, but still have access to all of the fun.

Well, it's been years... But I can tell you that the 4th is known as the WORST overcrowded week of the year in that area.

I suppose it could be done, if one knew how to zig when everybody else goes zag... But, in all seriousness, it wouldn't be fair to not at least give you a warning.

I like to do things like arrive on a Sunday, whizzing into town while you see the bumber to bumper exodus on the other sided of the road.

We went during our Fall Break last year. It was the Fall Break of Tennessee schools... and it was PACKED. But, by doing the above, and using a little common sense to stay ahead of the crowd, it was at least managable.
