Smokers in DCP

There is a chance, but keep in mind there is no smoking allow in the apartments. For one, there are smoke detectors (water sprinklers) located throughout the house. That is why there are also no candles allowed either. They stress the no smoke rule because those detecters go off at the slightest hint of smoke and when they do go off they flood the apartment really quickly as well as any apartments below you if you are in the second or third floor. For another, it's to protect the health of those who have asthma and lung problems. Smoking is only allowed in the designated areas at the complexes which is usually located near the bus stops.

Actually... I know that they TELL you that the sprinklers will go off at the smoke detector, but this is untrue. One of my roommates tried turning on the heat and the smoke detectors went off in the middle of the night and all of us were running around like chickens with our heads cut off, laying on top of our laptops so they weren't destroyed, etc. lol Nothing happened. No sprinklers went off...we turned the heat off and fanned the detectors and it stopped.

When it actually became TIME to turn on the heat for winter, security (or whoever) told us that it would sound the detector for the first few minutes while it warmed up or something, so just to open our door and fan it out and then it would run smoothly after that. Also, it had gone off when cooking before and nothing happened.:confused3 I really feel like it's just to make sure you don't smoke or have candles in the apartments lol.

And as for smoking roommates...I had one roommate (out of 8) who smoked and she did it on the porch or outside the front door...I never noticed the apartment smelling or anything.

They don't go off when the smoke detecters go off. They go off the minute heavy smoke ( cigarette smoke is consider heavy because of the chemicals in them). And trust me, they do go off. I was there when my friend's roommate was acting stupid and decided to try smoking inside the apartment. Let's just say I looked like a drowned rat afterward and the apartment below them was not happy to find puddles of water in their rooms and there were unhappy security.

So the only place you can smoke is by the bus stops? Not that I'm complaining but from what I hear the bus stop is pretty far away from some of the apartments. I don't really know what the layout of the apartments are but do they have any closer to some of the complexes randomly layedout? Or can you smoke anywhere as long as your not in the buildings? <--I really doubt that one cause of the non smoking policy in the parks but I'm just asking in case.

I don't know what the official rule is, but I know I had roommates and friends who smoked right outside the doors of the apartments. I don't remember it ever being a problem. I never remember being told in the housing meetings that there were designated smoking areas but I might just not have paid attention since I didn't smoke.

I've never had an issue smoking outside of my apt. or on the porch. I think they made the designated smoking areas at the bus stops more for if you are waiting for the bus and smoking. I've been smoking just outside my door and security walked by and didn't say anything.

I don't believe there's a designated smoking area for the apartment areas. I've done it plenty of times outside my door or outside and I see tons of people doing it at the pool as well. The previous poster is right about the bus stop, it's just a 'designated smoke area' at the bus stop because lots of people are there and it's a courtesy.

I have never done the program yet but my brother did and coming into the complexes i saw people on their balconies smoking left and right.

Also i have heard stories of people smoking pot in the apartments but if all this is true than either they had a good fan to blow the smoke out the window or i guess they were lying.
Not saying i smoke pot im just saying that it would be pretty hard for anyone to do so if smoke detectors would go off threwout the complex

Yeah, I have some friends who did the program and said they smoked in their apts. its a bad idea
