Smokers at WDW

There is none. As told to me, "As it is not a hazard to others, there are no measure neccesary to restrict the use of an e-cigarette"

Then why not, still people will give looks and comments but better then sitting and smelling real thing when you try to quit, btw did anyone tried them?

I smoked for 20 years, pretty heavily. I always said I wanted to quit. I finally did when I really wanted to. Of course it's harder for others, but when it comes down to it, you have to want to quit. Not just kinda wanna. "Lying" is a strong word, but in reality, they're lying to themselves. I don't think it's being presumptuous. I've been there.

The number of people under the age of 70 who die from smoking-related diseases exceeds the total figure for deaths caused by breast cancer, AIDS, traffic accidents and drug addiction.

Ninety percent of lung cancer cases are due to smoking.
If no-one smoked, lung cancer would be a rare diagnosis - only 0.5 per cent of people who've never touched a cigarette develop lung cancer.

Now , there are 2 amazing statistics! and the gov't is more worried about booster seats for kids , but mom and dad can light up right around them. :scared1:

anyways, when we were there this last trip I went to sit and rest near the end of BTMR seems I stumbled into a smoking area by mistake. I had one of my kids with me and he started the usual tirade about smokers..yes, we are the ones that hate smoking. HOWEVER, I pointed out to him WE were in the wrong and that was their area and if they wanted to smoke there, they darn well could!

I dont like smoking, but I will defend your right to smoke especially when you are following rules!

Yep puffing on one as I type this in my office at work. :rolleyes1

I think of it as rather than wanting to quit that you have to be willing to go through the often strong withdrawal. I think that my DH gets all gungho to quit (and at least thinks he means it) but then the urges hit him and apparently they hit him quite hard and he waivers. I can't relate, they weren't that bad for me. He cuts back to almost nothing but somehow later falls off the wagon and smokes a lot again. This cycle has been going on for years and I suspect that many others deal with the same thing.

I like this ecigarette because anything that will keep people from actually producing smoke is a step in the right direction IMO.

quitting is easier than you think it is.

anyone who says they want to quit, but can't, is lying about wanting to quit.

if they wanted to, they could.

it took me a phone call from my mother's pulmonologist telling me that she had mestastitized lung cancer. almost passing out from the call, i walk outside, light up, look down the shaft of the cigarette as i inhaled and said, "This is going to kill your mother." I quit that day and never looked back. She quit 11 years before diagnosis.

Killed her in just a few months.

I smoked for 22 years. Quitting was the most difficult thing I've ever done, but I'm so glad I can go to WDW and not search out the smoking places. Are there days when I wish I still smoked? Yes, but they are few and far between. Rushing my asthmatic son out of a restaurant the other night because there was a group of teenagers sitting in there smoking like chimneys was a pain, but necessary. The restaurant had a sign on the that it would be completely smoke free beginning 11/9. Maybe we'll go back again after it airs out. Interesting though, I never realized how bad it stunk until I had been free from those little demons for several months. What was I thinking? I even had a ticker at one point that was set to how many I smoked per day and how much a pack cost at the time. When I deleted that ticker it was pushing $10,000 saved by not smoking. Now I just spend that money at Disney. I've been quit since 1/8/03.

Well I haven't touched a real cigarette in over 8 months so it appears to be working.

Well Bayou Mickey, you have convinced me. I just ordered a starter set online. Will let you know how it works for me. thanks for the info!

Yes, it works differently for everyone. My father quit the moment prices increased, without any problems at all. We make jokes his urge to save money was stronger then urge to smoke.:upsidedow

Thanks, I might order as well, I hope they come in different strenth as I would need the lightest, I smoke Capri.

yes they do. they also come in many flavors. In fact, I don't even use the tobbacco ones anymore. Mostly vinilla and coffee.

ex-smokers are the worst. ugh, i hate the smell. i'm thankful i live in a non-smoking area, but when I visit my old town in SC.. i refuse to eat in any restaurant that allows smoking. i just cannot take the smell. there isn't anything that makes me want one. i find it repulsive. who knew?? i'm glad i do, though. i never took another drag. sure, it was hard for about 4-5 days, but there was no way i could put another one in my mouth.

Wow, this is so cool, I would get flavored too, for me the whole smoking thing is about the hand movement, I am so used to that, guess this is why it is difficult to quit to me anyway.

Should have put this after my mini-rant ;), but forgot in the retyping of that post several times to tone it down (man, you should have seen the first few iterations, let's just say that my time here would have been cut short, and quick!)

One of the biggest things for now about moving the E-Cig usage to the DSAs is not what non-smokers think or what "hazards" (real or imagined) come out of them. It's more of a psychological thing where other smokers may see them and light up, thinking it's ok, especially without CM intervention. Of course, this pertains to the more "real" looking ones than the ones Bayou linked earlier.

So, it's not so much non-smokers giving you dirty looks (hey, they do when you're in the right spot anyway...), but more about preventing smokers who aren't informed from bothering non-smokers. As the word gets out on these things, I'm sure that they'll be seen more and more as a healthier (not healthy, just less unhealthy than what you get in cigs now) alternative, they'll start popping up in much more areas.

I've been considering this for awhile (3-4 of my game friends have quit with the help of them, as have some of my mom's friends), but just haven't taken the "plunge". Maybe it'll be a good way to save for my next trip?

Sure there will be mistakes and confusion, and some people light when no CM around without any ecigarettes around, just human nature, btw, I was just exploring e-cigs online, they come with a blue light instead of orange as well, that is a definite clue they are not a real cigarettes.

Yes, we get that, it's bad for you. This discussion is not centered on it. We are not debating the pros and cons of smoking here, but merely the location and relative ease to find areas within the parks and resorts for which to practice a choice already made.

There's a bit more I can say on this, but I'll leave it alone before I get tossed out ;). (Suffice to say, I take issues when people force their own personal beliefs in my face)

I realize that it is not the topic at hand, but I honestly care for people and try to encourage them to quit when appropriate.

Nothing sadder than seeing a total laryngectomy patient in front of hospital in a robe, IV pole and oxygen canula smoking through a stoma. I often wonder if he/she would like a "do-over".

To all those who have told stories of quitting or being on the road to quitting. Congrats on your accomplishment! After 30 days you substantially lowered your risk of heart attack, stroke, COPD and cancer.

As a non-smoker I stay away from the smoking areas on the map, mainly because I have asthma and cigarette smokes makes it flair up. I think Disney does a pretty good job and telling people not to smoke if they see them walking around with a cigarette in a non-smoking area. I will have to say Universal and IOA seems to have a lot more people breaking the rules. Last weekend I saw 10 people getting told not to smoke because it's non-smoking area. One guy got mad at the team member and they told him to either put out the cigarette or he'd get escorted from the park.

I personally don't see why people would want to smoke but I've preached so much about it to my family that I've finally decided you don't smoke around me and I won't lecture you about smoking!

A couple of points about a few different topics that have surfaced in this thread

1. I smoked a pack of cigs a day for 20 years (i'm 38). About 2 weeks ago I bought my 1st e-cig (Joye 510). I have not smoked a regular cigarette since. I love the ecig. It takes care of my nicotine craving without the thousands of other chemicals entering my body and I feel great. An ecig is just like using the patch or chewing gum, but you still feel, to an extent, as if you are smoking a real cigarette. It is not as good as quitting altogether, but certainly better than real cigarettes...and cheaper too!

2. When we were at WDW in the beginning of September we stayed at POP. I ALWAYS used the designated smoking areas, but there were some people who didn't...and it definitely wasn't enforced. I never wanted to bother people with my second hand smoke...but some people just don't care.
