My dad and his wife "Jane" came to visit for a couple of day. I walked into the house and was surprised to see her puffing away on a cigarette. We don't allow any smoking in our house and seeing my surprise reaction, she was quick to say that it was a vapor cigarette. From what I can read, they still get a nicotine fix in these battery operated cigarettes and that they're supposedly safe for those around them (no second-hand smoke). I never saw or heard of these things. She just had a heart bypass a few years back, never smoked before, and now she seems to be hooked on these. Is this a new craze? A way to look "cool"? Anyone know anything about these? Is it indeed safe to smoke these things around others? What triggers someone to start smoking these things when you've never smoked before?

Oh yea. DH says they use them at his work inside the building. My dd who works for Six Flags said she sees them everywhere.

They have been around for awhile now.

You can get them without nicotine in them, just the vapors and flavor. I was thinking of getting one and I haven't smoked in years - but I always enjoyed the flavor of cigarettes. I couldn't imagine someone her age looking to start up just to "look cool" as I can't think of anything cool looking (or uncool looking) about it. Maybe she was a closet smoker in her past???

I can't either. I thought she'd be way past the look cool stage of her life. She did say that it was just vapor and flavor. Everything I looked up said that it had nicotine in them so I assumed she left that tidbit out. I didn't know that you can just get them for the flavors, so I stand corrected on that!

I was wondering the same thing - that maybe she was a closet smoker in the past.

I used the NJoy e-cig (electronic cigarette) to quit smoking. I started with the Light version (1.2% nicotine) and reduced to 0% nicotine over the course of a year. I still use the 0% occasionally, but not all the time. I use it when I just need a quick puff.

They do taste like a cigarette and you can get them in 4 strengths of nicotine and two flavors - 1.8%, 1.2%, .6% and 0% and then all of these in either regular or menthol flavor. This is just the NJoy brand. NJoy also has another style that has other flavors too. They also have a cigar style and a pipe style. There is no smell to them like a cigarette and yes they are safe for people around those that are "Vaping"

Did you feel that it was a help in you quitting?:) I'm wondering how they work.

Yes, it really helped me. My BFF & I started on them at the same time. I used them like cigarettes until I got to the 0% nicotine. That is when I really cut back to hardly using them. I stopped smoking because I had a granddaughter on the way. I would do everything like I did when I was smoking - not smoking in the house or car, going outside at restaurants, etc. Now that I am at 0% I occassionally will use it in the car or house, but only because I rarely use it. DH said that when it got cold that I could vape in the house, until then I always went outside.

It is not advertised as a smoking cessation product, but if you want to use it as one to cut back gradually, it does work for that purpose. You have to want to stop smoking though.

Yeah I've seen these before, Charlie Sheen uses them and one of the girl's on the Real housewives of Beverly Hills.

That is strange, op, that she had never smoked before, and now uses the smokeless cigarettes. Can't imagine doing that.
