Smoke Free Fort

Is Disneyland really smoke-free? If so, is it because of California State law? If so, seems to me our best bet is to encourage Floridians to lobby for a similar law. I agree that DisneyWorld probably won't change policy unless it has to. The healty food initiative while continuing to ignore smoking is hypocrisy.

I think there are more important things that need to be focused on. For example, enforcing the teenagers from driving around in carts, and enforcing cleaning up after your pets.

If you want to stay in a smoke free environment, then go stay at one of the resorts and stay inside. Camping gives those the freedom of being outside and relaxing. If it means having a cigar or a ciggy, then they have a right too. I agree that smell is bad, but I am not going to agree that it should be banned. If that is done then you might as well make it into a state park and ban alcohol from the campground.

Disney has already set smoking areas in the parks. Not everyone follows it, but most people do. If someone is out on the porch at lets say the Meadows trading post, and you don't like it, THEN MOVE....Smokers have a right to and I am sure we all have out little things that others may find offensive.

I think that this is offensive to those who smoke because you are basically telling them they should have no rights, and wish that their rights should once again be limited for their habit.

If you don't like what someone does then walk away
. Banning smokers for a habit that is tough to break and saying they should not smoke at a campground is a like self righteous crusade.

On that note lets ban alcohol because it gets makes people unaware of their surroundings in the campgrounds and if they get into a vehicle they could end up hitting a child. Let's also ban coming to the campgrounds around 4 in the morning because it wakes up your fellow campers. Ft. Wilderness should lock down around 1am so that others are not bothered by that loud beeping sound from the backing up. Better yet, lets ban those who have showers in there TT or motor homes from using the showers because it stalls those without showers from using them. Or should we just ban pop ups and tents all together because it make is look trashy that they have coolers, grills, towels hanging from lines and fridges because we don't like the looks of it.

Sounds stupid? So does banning smoking from the campgrounds.

Enjoy the campgrounds and furthermore stop holding others accountable for habits that they choose...just so that you can be pleased.

I think smoking at your campsite..and smoking in a more public area like the porch at Crocketts are two different things. That is an area where people gather and should be smoke free. I'm surprised they allow it in that particular spot. My husband and I don't smoke. My older son used to smoke. During our last visit, he really had no problem going to a designated area in the parks for a cigarette. Of course he also had his own room in the resort. Where we live there is NO smoking in restaurants, bars, office buildings... any public areas. Although, I think sometimes, it's almost worse because when you enter and leave these areas you go through CLOUDS of it. It is so concentrated. You could gag.:scared1: .and have to hold your breath. Of course when he lived home, he didn't smoke in the house either and was embarrassed to be seen by myself or his siblings smoking..as he thought it set a bad example for the kids. I have compassion for smokers because it is an addiction....that doesn't mean I want to breathe in smoke. A good many smokers would love to be able to quit..it just isn't so easy. My son tried MANY times before it finally took..and my mom who smoked for 50 years...finally quit with the help of a new medication on the market. I would think the porch at Crocketts would most certainly be an area where they should restrict smoking...but not at your own campsite.
I'm not sure about the marina area..I'd really have to give that some additional thought. That being said, the smoke from a cigar is REALLY strong. I think that's way different than that of a cigarette. We had a room once at the Poly..and it reaked of cigar smoke, and we asked to be moved..of course we got the room next to the elevator that kept going "bing"..every other minute so I'm not sure which was worse! I think being next to someone with a cigar even in an outdoor area is pretty tough to take.:sad2:

Hmm, I agree that perhaps the porch area should be off limits to smoking, simply because as auntie mentioned, a lot of people gather there. I can't really think of any other place, I don't think it should be banned near the marina, but that's just my opinion.

And hey, some of us actually like the smell of a fine cigar! My wife can't stand the smell of cigarettes, but she actually enjoys the smell of a cigar. I find it pleasant as well, although not in huge doses obviously...heh.

Just think, we could be back in the time where people used to smoke waiting in line at Snow White...lol ;)

I didn't want to mention it...(worried about the wet noodles again!)..but I actually like the smell of a pipe. Find that some of them have a very nice aroma. Not sure if I'd care for it indoors but outdoors, it's never bother me.

In my experience I've had less issues with smoker/non smoker issues in a campground than when in a resort. Never had to change sites because it smelled of cigarette smoke. As most folks who smoke do so at their own site..they aren't restricted to smoking in congregated entries and exits of buildings or general stores..as they might be in the resorts. We are seasonal in our campground..and I don't have to fight my way past a group of smokers to go to the outdoor restaurant area..or pool..or even to the check in and grocery area. I think if they banned smoking at individual sites..they would then have to designate an area for smokers..and I think that has the potential for being worse, depending on where it's located. Let folks smoke at their sites..and they aren't harming anyone but themselves.God help them and give the strength to stop.

my DH is a smoker, but thank goodness not a heavy one. He would NEVER stand out side a restaurant or on a porch to smoke. Just does so at campsite when we camp.

On the whole..I think smokers have become more considerate of their habit and don't intentionally want to cause discomfort for those around them. Of course there is always the exception. Like someone who would smoke a cigar around young children...that's not right. If he were at the marina with his wife..or other adults around that's fine..but he probably should be considerate of kids and not smoke near them. I don't know that I'd make an issue out of it..I'm from NY..you don't do that sort of thing here..unless you want the official NY salute..or worse(it's the worse I worry about!). I'd probably move.

If they ban smoking then my husbend will not go to Disney with us anymore. I agree that smoking is gross but my kids still enjoy having their father with them at Disney. When we go on long car trips my husbend does dip:crazy2: and we find that even more gross but at least he isnt't smoking around the kids. Anywho I am not a smoker but if they ban it at Disney then my kids will be without their father on alot a trips:sad1: !

I’m not for ban anything. Today it smoking and it is starting to look like Red Meat is next no the firing block. It mite come a Time when they ban something you like.

Plus there's the cigar shop at DTD - dh bought a couple there last time - wouldnt' be much call for the store if the products couldn't be utilized somewhere....

As a former smoker. Yes its a nasty habit and smells bad. But most non smokers don't understand and just fell like fussing about it or make smart a$$ remarks about it. as long as they are out doors let them be.

I am an x smoker fromt eh age 13-22 quit cold turkey and have never had another one since. I am a huge proponent of smoke free places especially the resorts I stay at. We have e mailed DVC numerous times and I hear it is to be discussed for the DVC resorts I hope they follow through with this like Disneyland has done.

Does that mean no rooms are available to smokers..or that then entire resort..even a desigated area out doors for smokers? Is Disneyland entirely smoke free..with no designated areas in the parks or resort?

Being a camper myself and a person who has stayed at the resorts..I do find that it's different. I don't think smoking at your site particularly bothers someone else...I think the sites would have to be pretty darn close to one another. Again, I find it worse to walk through the thick smoke entering or exiting a building. I was at the hospital for my dad the other day..and I tell you it was the WORST. The employees are smoking outdoors..but it's cold and they are all bundled up against the building..you need fog lights to make your way through.

That is what is a shame about this habit. I can't imagine something so addicting that it would keep you from spending time with family members. My mom is the same way, we all went to disney last year...alot of my family for the first time, and she would not go (we think) because she couldn't smoke freely. she says it was the heat that kept her away, but i'm not so sure about that. You only live once, why do something to make that life shorter and spend less time with your family?

Here are some links to the smoke free policy in Cali and Disneyland and the resorts. Now the first link is old and the policy has changed for the smking policy.

Addiction to anything, be it smoking, drugs, food, posting on message boards, can make you do things you wouldn't normally do.

I see by your profile, Colson39, that you are averaging 1.33 posts per day. Time for an intervention????:scared1:

LOL - if anyone needs an intervention it's me!!! Look at my number of posts and tell me I don't have a problem! And, I don't even get paid to do this! :surfweb: LOL

But, since this thread has run it's course and is turning into a smoking/no smoking debate, I'm going to close it. Have a great day everyone! :)
