Smell at Animal Kingdom Lodge

i was there in Sept.

the only smell was from the fireplace. It went up. I enjoyed it. was kinda of musty. maybe that is what they though was animal smell?

Since OP said he had seen this posted elsewhere, maybe it was just the person posting.

Some people will get something in their heads and convince themselves that things are as they expect.

If my Dad knows he is visiting the homes of smokers or indoor pet owners he will become anxious and make himself sick shortly after entering the home. However, he can visit other homes that are clearly worse and not have any problem with it. He legitimately gets sick, but it is all in his head.

I could only imagine what dear ol' Dad would do if forced to stay a week in a zoo (i.e. AK):confused3

Actually, we had a similiar experience to the above poster, who stated after wandering hallways looking for views of the savannah they could smell something awful. This was just last January.....we had gone to AKL in early evening for the storytelling around the fire. We also were looking to view the savannah from different areas.....we wandered to the right of the lobby past the elevators behind the indoor firepit. As we got further down that hallway there was just a terrible odor......I'm not really sure what it smelled like......to me it smelled like raw sewerage. I do know if I had a room down that particular hallway I would have become very ill from the smell and would have had to ask for a room change. That is the only time I've ever encountered such a horrible smell anywhere at WDW and it did not smell at all in the lobby area .......only down this particular wing. My daughter was actually gagging from the smell. We've been to AKL many, many times and I've always loved the smells from the lobby area and it is one of my favorite resorts, but, that evening does stick in my mind.

NEVER noticed any animal smell.

There IS a distinct odor in the lobby...but it's a pleasant one (IMHO). It's cardamon, cinnamon, burning wood....just a bunch of wonderful odors all mixed together. It's funny...when I think of the lodge, that "smell" is the thing I associate with it.....I just LOVE it.

Funny, when I read the title of this thread I thought that THIS was the smell that was being referred to! It's what I associate with AKL as well!:goodvibes

We stayed at AKL in May and it did not smell like animals at all. As others have already mentioned, the lobby has a very distinct smell (that DH and I both liked).

That's EXACTLY what I thought when I read this - I love that yummy wood burning smell of the AKL.

Whenever I start to miss AKL, I pull out the coriander seed and take a little whiff...

As many times as we've been there since 2003, we've never encountered an unpleasant smell and I am very sensitive to these things...

That's because of these dedicated CMs:

For what it's worth when we were touring the Doorway to Dreams store our guide mentioned that Disney did some type of wind study to put the resort at the optimal location so any animal smells were taken away from the resort and not towards it.

This obviously would have no bearing on the indoor odors that have been mentioned, but thought I would share the info.

never gotten animal smell without standing right next to the flamingos.

Inside all I can smell is the Boma aroma.

Whenever DD and I talk about AKL, we always say, THAT SMELL! It smells so wonderful in there from the moment you walk inside! Definitely no stinky animals smells. :flower3:

I am sitting in a studio right now with the door open watching them clean the Savannah. I haven't smelled anything and even the boyfriend who seems to delight in finding things to dislike didn't smell anything!

We just got back from AKV. No smell from the animals either from the 5th floor balcony or from the ground level. Lobby smelled nice as people have mentioned.

However, our room 5425 had a funky "new room" smell. It was really nasty, like a new car smell on steroids. Nothing that the housekeeping or engineering could do to fix it.
