Hi, I am new to owning a smartphone (iphone). I do have it covered with a good case but just the thought of getting on some of the rougher rides has me thinking maybe to leave it in the room locked up. But my question is this. For those of you that have taken your smartphones to the parks how do you keep it protected when getting on some of the rougher rides? I do intend to keep it wrapped in a ziplock. But my main fear is getting on rock-n-roller coaster or space mountain and getting off and find my brand new iphone cracked. I have thought about instead of using the camera case I have for my camera to use my old camcorder case that is little bigger and put both camera and iphone in it. Will it be safe to put the iphone and my digital camera together? Please excuse the ignorate questions.

TIA

I have a good quality hard case on my iphone and have never had a problem with it on a ride. I'm on my 3rd iphone and ride rollercoasters a lot and have always kept in in my zip pocket on my jacket. We do put our phones and camera in a zip lock bag when we go on water rides though.

Usually on rides like RRC, I keep it in my camera bag. I like to know everything is together. What kind of case do you have for it? Since you have an iPhone, its not safe until you put it in an Otter Box. But if I were you, I'd put your phone with the camera on that ride.

I never had an issue with a smartphone in my pocket or camera case. But I did buy the Lifeproof case for my iPhone this year. Not so much for the impact-resistance, but for waterproofing. I want some good family video and photos when we're stuck in a classic Disney downpour. :)

EDIT: replaced "Lifelock" with "Lifeproof." We're not talking about Identity protection. lol

I don't know about that case, but unless it completely sealed inside water tight bag of some sort I would say its only water resistant. And some of the those classic Disney downpours are like dunking your phone in a bucket of water. :goodvibes

It has pretty good reviews. It's meant for swimming and some underwater photography too. :)

I've even read the complaints, but I'm no stranger to o-rings used for seals. If you have so much as a hair lie across it, you lost your seal. Most people don't understand that.

I use an Otterbox when I go. Then when I get home I change it back to my normal case. Found my Otterbox at Walmart.

Thanks.. I have a Trident case for my iphone. I plan on keeping it in a ziploc to help protect it from the water rides and when it rains heavily and also plan on taking my camcorder case since it is bigger and to hold both my camera and my phone.

Just make sure it's not in your front pocket when you ride the roller coasters.

Sometimes the CM's will push down on the restraint..... my husband's camera got broken this way. The CM pressed down on the restraint of the Rock n Roller coaster, cracking the viewing screen.

I'll have to think about the ziploc bags, good tip. Even in the case of heavy rain.

No matter what, a few ziploc bags are an absolute must. They take up no room, but are great to throw your phone, camera, or wallet in for the rain or water rides.

I have a Big camera case for my Nikon D3000 and lenses. This is what I do I put my credit cards id and Cell phone in one pocket of my camera bag. I also spray the bag once with water repelant let it dry and spray it again letting it dry. Then I test it with a few drops of water and see if it beads off the water. This has always protected my camera and phone this way. You can also toss your cell phone in a ziplock bag if your scared it might get wet. As far as mine being dammaged it has never happened. Hubby carries his in his shorts pocket that he can zip up. He never broke his but he pocket dialed a poor lady while riding a roller coaster and didnt realize it till he heard someone screaming at him to stop yelling and giggling like a crazy person !:rotfl:

Get an Otterbox for the outside, and put on a Zagg Invisible Shield- best thing I ever got for my phone. Then just pop it in your pocket! The ziplock is a good idea for wet rides.

I just got my Lifeproof today and did a 3 hour submerged water test with it (they only ask you to do a 2 hour test prior to use). It's thin, light, shockproof, and passed the water test. So far so good. I'll report back about it after our Disney trip in a few weeks.

I know it can be a little scary when you get an iphone it seems super delicate but it's really not.

I've been on all the rides with my iphone and it's perfectly fine. I just put it in my back pocket or in my camera case.

Don't put it in a ziplock. The heat inside the ziplock will create moisture inside the phone and give it water damage. Same thing goes for digital cameras. This has happened to a lot of people I know. It's okay if you put it in a ziplock when you go on a water ride though, it won't hurt it for that short amount of time.

Lol! DH and I both have the iphone 4s and we never keep it in a ziploc or worry much over it, despite about 8 trips in the last year and a half. You'll be fine. There is nothing to worry about! I keep mine in a couple of different hard cases and DH has the fancy bamboo case from the grove. Worry about the crowds, not your phone:)

All four of us have iPhones. We have otterbox cases on them. On wet rides we put them in ziplock bags. My sons carry them in fanny packs. My hubby and I carry them in our pockets. When on a roller coaster I put mine in my camera bag. My hubby usually wears cargo shorts and they get buttoned into a pocket.
I agree with pp. take your phone with you, that's why you have it. When in our pockets we just have the screen closest to our bodies for extra precaution.

Kept my iphone in an Otterbox case the first 9 months I had it. Took the case off to clean it and realized how much I hated that bulky case. Spent 8 days at WDW in June, carried my iphone zipped in a pocket of my bag. No case, no ziplock bag (I don't ride water rides) but we did get rained on often. It was tucked in my bag underneath my poncho. Didn't have any problems at all!

We keep a ziplock in our bag and just put it in for water rides. The zip lock is fine if you don't seal it and it's not warm and moist in there, just put it in the plastic and fold over the top and keep it in your bag/pocket on water rides. I do the same with my camera since my little point and shoot is in my bag and not in a case.

I was at 6 flags Hurricaine Harbor (water park) last week and saw someone on the lazy river texting with that life lock case on full in the water. I think it works pretty well and it does not look ugly or bulky....pretty pricy though.

As a pp said iPhones are really pretty tough. Good Luck!
