My mom, my daughter and I went to WDW 2 years ago this May. We've been wanting to go back ever since. I fooled around with planning one here and there, even had one booked for my husband, daughter and I last August, but had to cancel it.
I seriously thought about going this October (for my mom's and my birthdays) or early January, but my daughter was in the Nutcracker, and had rehearsals all fall, and January is meet season (gymnastics) so it was a no go.
Last week I started thinking "boy I sure wish, I'd planned a May trip back in December" That same day my mom called me to ask if I could look up deals because she really thought we should go again. Why of course I can!
So that's how we ended up booking.
The details:
April 28- May 5th, 2012
Pop Century Resort
Update 3/27- We are now staying at Coronado Springs
Cast:
Me, Micah. 30 something mom, small business owner, and caretaker to husband, Bjorn who has a degenerative mobility disorder. His mind still works fine (he is a former biology professor) but he can't always get around so well. We live in Pittsburgh.
Mom to-
Catherine, age 7, who will turn 8 right before we leave (need to find out if we are 'allowed to celebrate her birthday there, ala button) Second grader, competitive gymnast, and dancer. She works hard. She trains and/or dances every day of the week, often staying late for open gym. She does very well in school, and loves to read. We live on the east coast and all our relatives live on the West coast (or nearby). She is often very lonely for her grandparents and cousins
Gran-daughter to-
Winifred, age 'grandma'
Retired school teacher, she enjoys painting, collecting dolls, sewing and jewelry making. Wife to Earl, a retired architect. They live in Wyoming. Her favorite ride was It's a Small World (because of the dolls?) and 2 years ago she made Catherine the best Captain Hook costume ever for Halloween, (see above)
Here we three are with some friends
Done so far:
Booked airfare for both parties
Booked room
Need to do:
Book Dining
Shop
get permission from school*
figure out how to link chapters
find out if we can still us my restruants.com vouchers
* So I looked in our school manual and it said that trips should be limited to 10 days a year and extended trips need principal approval, so I wrote a letter reqyuesting just that ( since she missed 1 day for the Nutcracker in December and will miss this Friday for a gymnastics meet), didn't hear back, and have since heard from others that they've only asked the teacher for missed worked and that's that. Sorry I was trying to follow the rules! this is a new school this year for us!
Catherine is also in a spring show for the ballet. When I ran it by the directer we might miss one Saturday (when rehearsals are) she said "we should rethink our participation" Whoa!
Other people don't seem to get that when THEY ask for days off, I know because my friend asked if her daughter could miss dress rehearsal (much worse than miss reg practice) and she got smiles and tulips blown at her
I would say, hey fine count her out. (I am this close to being DONE with this studio, 'nother story) After all she still has the spring Gymnastics show, plus her other dance school's rectal in June. But Catherine loves it there. So I worked it out that we leave Saturday AFTER her rehearsals (10 am to 3:30) Flight leaves at 8, then fly back Saturday morning (Plane arrives at 9) in time for her 10:30 rehearsal.
