According to another web site and confirmed by a Disney official in the Orlando paper, Small World is going to be closing for an extended period of time.

The paper did not provide dates, but Mouseplanet.com says that Small World will be closed from June 1 - March for total overhaul. When we visited last May we noticed that there were figures missing and the ride needed some work. However we will miss it this year when we return in Sept. There is just something calming about the ride.

I agree with you. I'm going with my parents this summer and I know that they have fond memories of this ride. However, it would be nice to see them update it a little. Can't wait to see what they do:teeth:

I would doubt that you'll notice any updating. they probably need to redo alot of the figures. This ride is one they would hear alot of complaining about if they really did 'update'. But my question is why do it at the start of the busy season?

When we were at WDW at the end of February, I overheard this same rumor while we were waiting in line for Small World. The person talking said that it was going to be completely updated and would be closed for 18 months. I am glad we got the chance to ride it one last time, if this turns out to be true.

When we were there in Dec. I went on it multiple times and the age is really showing. Some of the figures are broken.

I wonder what they do with all of the change in that water?

Where do you think the funding for the refurb is coming from?:teeth:

Oh I hope the June 1st date isn't true!!!

We arrive May 29th but were not planning on hitting MK until June 1st!!!! Looks like we might have to make a quick stop in MK to ride Small World before they shut down, if that is indeed the date.

The dates that I've heard were June 7th, 2004 until March 18th, 2005. Some of the things that they talked about was switching the enterenance and exit lines. A multi-million dollar rehab that would involve all new boats, new lighting and audio but the song will remain the same.

I finally convinced my whole family to come to Disney with me this year and the one ride the kids are dying to see is IASW!! They are 4,5 and 7 and have never been but they've seen my vacation pictures and always comment on it and I even showed them on the computer. They'll be so disappointed! :( Its also one of my favorites and I understand the need for updating it but try explaining that to these 3 young ones. This trip is all they have been talking about since they found out they are going. But I guess its better I found out now, it gives me time. Thank God for these boards, at least if they know ahead of time they won't be able to see it they won't be too disappointed on the trip. Thanks for the info.

I'll be there with my two nieces for their first trip on June 14th. All my mom has been doing since I planned this trip is singing "It's A Small World" to them.
I told her to please stop - it's being rehabbed!!!!
I can't believe it.

Are these rehabs ever delayed by a week or two??? I hope this one is so that maybe we'll get a chance to ride it.

I sure HOPE so. We were planning to ride it on June 10th. The only thing we got goin' for us right now is that it hasn't officially been announced for rehab yet. Maybe they'll play with those dates a bit before they officially announce it.

:sunny:
