So I've ridden the "new" small world twice now, and am happy to say they didn't go overboard with the changes and ruin the lovely Mary Blair imagery. They've added, in the style of the existing dolls:
Alice and the White Rabbit
Peter Pan and Tink ( look up!)
Lilo and Stitch
The 3 Caballeros ( a bit odd - more like marionettes -- but ok)
Marlin and Dory
The mermaid now has red hair and flounder is nearby

Not as good - the new American section, with a very odd looking Woody and Jessie

The boats are smaller - rumor has it because we've gotten so obese they were bottoming out.
My stepdad worked on the installation of the ride back in the 60's as a plasterer. They were choregraphing the movements and played the music all day long every day! He won't go near it....lol

There are lots more.. Mary Poppins, and Mulan's dragon Mushu I think his name was, Isn't Pocohantas there?, I know Nemo is, and Aladin and Jasmine... This is all from seeing pics though. Not from going there.

That is very cool about your dad!

Nope, no Mary Poppins or Pocahontas. But there is also Simba, Pumbaa, Timon, Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Cinderella, Gus, Jaq, Mulan, and Abu.

I think the three caballeros make a good fit for what they were trying to do. The Imagineers did take a look a the Mary Blair style for the upgrades. I'm glad it sounds within reason.

There are 30+ characters that were added. Many of them are very "in your face" and pull from the overall theme of the attraction inho.

- Dreams

There are a total of 29 characters added. Here is the list:

-Mulan and Mushu from Mulan(Mushu appears twice; as 'himself' and as a kite flown by Mulan)
-Cinderella, Jaq and Gus from Cinderella
-Woody, Bullseye and Jessie from Toy Story 2
-Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio
-Alice and the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland
-Aladdin, Jasmine, and Abu from Aladdin
-Ariel and Flounder from The Little Mermaid
-Lilo and Stitch from Lilo and Stitch
-Peter Pan and Tinker Bell from Peter Pan
-Simba, Pumbaa and Timon from The Lion King
-Donald Duck, Jose Carioca and Panchito from The Three Caballeros
-Nemo and Dory from Finding Nemo

(BTW Dreams, I agree with you. Ours seems to be the minority opinion though.)

ETA: Actually now that I think about it, Aladdin and Jasmine are riding on "Carpet", which can be considered a character. So yeah, that makes it 30. I guess 31 if you count Mushu twice. :)

I agree about Woody and Jessie looking odd. That's what I thought, too! Overall, I really enjoyed the changes and am glad they updated the ride. It was a lot more fun to go through and look for the added characters. Most of the time, I enjoy the changes made on rides and scenery, with a few glaring exceptions. My friend is a purist though and HATES alterations!

I'm excited to ride this too and see all the changes. I wonder if the smaller boats will make for longer lines.....???

I managed to not see Jiminy Cricket or Abu, but otherwise I saw everyone else. I don't mind the changes.

As for the Toy Story gang, they were designed to look like toys instead of children, so that's why they look different.

I read that in another post, but I still don't care for the way they were designed. It seems kind of funny, doesn't it? They're supposed to look different so you don't confuse them with the dolls that are supposed to be real people but are made to look like toys? Anyway, I'd have preferred them to look the way they do in the movie, even if they are toys. After all, they didn't try to make the other characters look like cartoons :goodvibes

Isn't Marie in France? (or is that only in Tokyo)

Marie is only in Hong Kong.

In case anyone's interested, there are 38 characters that appear in Hong Kong's version. All that are mentioned above, minus Jiminy Cricket, Jaq, Gus, Alice, and The White Rabbit. Other characters include Marie, Bambi, Thumper, Prince Charming, Wendy, Pocahontas, Meeko, Flit, Baloo, Mowgli, Peach (starfish from Finding Nemo), Andrina and Attina (Ariel's sisters).
