SMALL Special Treat

So I'm going to be leaving for the World in less than 20 days. Last time I went solo and had a blast, and this time I'm going to be accompanied by my partner (committed, but not romantic) of 2.5 years who hasn't been to WDW since a family trip when he was a teenager, maybe 15 years ago. Things have been a bit taxing over the last year what with starting a remodel on our condo and then having to let it go when he got a new job that required us to move 2000 miles away.

Anyway, I was thinking that since I'm doing all the planning for this trip (hotel & tickets booked, and I think I'm done changing ADRs), I could maybe slip in some small surprise personalized pixie dust for him (because it sparkles even more when it's got your name written all over it). My original thought was to maybe to get one of the chocolate slipper deserts or mini cakes with the chocolate castle on top from the GF bakery delivered for tea there (with a message on the plate to the effect of "happy vacation JP and Liz"), but they only make them in white chocolate, and we are both dark chocolate people.

My question for y'all (apologies for the long preamble) is: Do you have any other suggestions for small (under $50, preferably under $30) special things I could book/buy for us that would add that extra bit of pixie dust?

Oh, we're not having any birthdays or other special occasions, it's just a chance to decompress from all the stuff that's been going on.

Thanks all in advance,

Elizabeth

What about a gift basket? You can them made up at most of the resort stores with just things you want in them so the price really depends on what you want

Do they have personalized things at the resorts? I wasn't looking for anything like that on my last visit, so I don't know. We're staying at POP, but visiting a lot of other resorts during the course of the trip, mostly for the food, so I could probably sneak off at some point and put something together.

Hmmm. This will require some scheming. . . . :scratchin

Im not sure but they do do personalisation in Downtown Disney so thats always an option. If you take anything in to the shop behind the Christmas shop (I assume it must be brought in Disney and have tags on) you can pay to have it personallised.

I didn't know the mini-cakes only came in white chocolate!? You could still have cake, tho... I know they do bigger cakes in chocolate, and will personalize a message on the cake for you. I've gotten a cake big enough to feed at least 10 people, and it was under $50, I believe. Just give the Disney cake hotline a call (407-827-2253) and you can have it waiting for you at one of your ADR's! :)

I was so set on a mini-cake because a larger one seems a bit wasteful for just the 2 of us, and the molded castle just screams magic. We won't have a fridge in our room, so the remaining 3/4 of a larger cake would just get left at the restaurant. It seems from the discussions on the cake thread(http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1173219), getting a truly disney-fied cake, with more than just generic flowers and some writing on it, can get awfully spendy, awfully fast.

Also I'm given to understand that you can get proper chocolate for the cake part of the mini-cake, but not for the molded castle, and no matter what the cake flavor is, the icing will be white. Dark chocolate slippers have started showing up at CRT (almost at random, it seems), but I can't get the GF bakery to do one (or 2) like that.

Couple of ideas for you...

1) Call the Disney Florist. They have lots more than flowers. When my brother took his family we had a backpack full of snacks delivered to the room before they checked in (it was waiting for them... I think he told me it was on the bed in the room). The CM I spoke w/was so helpful. I'm sure they could put together something for you like that. Or for some other day/time.

2) If you really are set on the cake how about doing it at Teppan-Yaki? When we celebrated our anniversary there a few years ago we got a cake for our dinner there & shared it w/the whole table. You get the cake you want, nothing goes to waste & you get to share a little of the pixie dust! (There were 2 kids at our table who were so excited when they found out we were sharing the cake!) And again - call the bakery, they are great. The CM will work w/you to get you something special w/out breaking the bank.

3) What about a non-food treat? Maybe the Behind the Seeds tour @ the Land? Or the Segway tour? Something inexpensive & short (so it doesn't take up your whole day). Make up some coupons or something & either drop them in the room (then act suprised) or ask the front desk folks to deliver them.

Fortunately if you enlist a CM or two, they will be happy to help you w/whatever you decide to do.

Have a great trip! I'm so envious....we aren't going until October. :sad1:
