Small resale contracts

Current owner at Wilderness Lodge (200 points/June UY/since 2001) and wishing I added on or purchased a resale contract years ago. We don't need a lot, maybe 50 points, but not sure of the best way to go about this.

I've read Disney "typically" requires a 100 point minimum. Is that a hard rule?

I'm curious if small contracts come up frequently for resale. I tried to get an idea by scrolling through the ROFR threads.

Any tips for coordinating use year or resort. We only stay at DVC resorts so not concerned about resale restrictions. Usually stay at home resort but would be open to any. Just a little worried about the 7 month booking window if the contracts don't match. I'm trying to think through banking/borrowing across the two contracts and see if that works (Like one year I could borrow to make the reserv at 11 months and the next year be a little more flexible on dates/resort and try at 7 months)

Thanks for any input.

If you are an existing member you can generally buy 25-50 point add one direct.

You can buy 25 points or higher directly from Disney if you currently are an owner.

And would that be from the current options available? (like would it have to be Riviera). I'm not sure but maybe Copper Creek isn't sold out. Thanks. I will place a call and see what the cost would be for $50 points.

And for 50 or so points I’d probably do so - we are even contemplating it. In your case especially with your 2001 points as all of your points would be “qualified” if you will to book anywhere, versus having your original 200 and then also some resale points with restrictions.

They may or may not have any BRV “on the shelf”, but as they can assign the use year now I’d bet they can accommodate you fairly soon. Let us know.

One more question. I'm wondering if I can add on but have the new contract be only in my name.

Long story but the original contract is owned by 3 family members (my sibling/my parent). So my concern is that, although we've never had challenges/booking/traveling together, I would like this to be in my name as families grow and have changed over time (married, children, grandchildren, parent aging, etc). Its sad to think about but wills/beneficiaries are confusing and there are other siblings w/spouses that are not on the contract as well. Mostly I just don't like using up all the family points if we want to go an extra couple of days or some different time every other year or so.

I'm thinking an add on might not work this way. Thanks again

If the new contract is only in your name, but the original contracts are in yours and other names, you would be considered a new member. As a new member, you'd be subject to the 50, 75, or 100 point minimum.

Don't forget that Boulder Ridge is completely different from Copper Creek. They are two separate resorts even though they are only a few feet apart both located at WL. You can't combine points from one with points from the other at 11 months out.

And if you are planning to book Copper Creek studios with a 50 point contract, you really need to stop and do more research before proceeding. CCV is very different from BRV.

Thank you for the info. I plan to be flexible with some bookings. I do have BRV booked for 51 points (3 nights during April school vacation), and a studio at SSR for 3 nights in Jan for 33 points. As well as our extended family trip in May, 4 nights in a 2 bedroom at BRV. Just this past may I booked our extra night for my family at BLT for 34 points. So I think the 50 points will work for what I plan to do. From what I saw online CCV was also 51 points for the same 3 nights in April BUT waitlist only, so I can see that would be a concern with no availability at 7 months out. I will do some more research into how the two resorts are different (I do like that the BRV studios can accommodate 5).

There are two issues with Copper Creek studios.
1. Due to the point values of the cabins, the studios make up a smaller percentage of the total points than are BRV. So there are potentially more people fighting for less spots, even amongst owners.
2. They allowed smaller contracts to be sold to new owners, meaning that those people are looking almost exclusively for studios at CCV.
