my friends jus informed me that they cant go with me on the vacation we were suppose to take. they said that theyll be in skool. i hate high school schedules for this reason. neway my mom offered to come with me. i dont have a problem with this, im just not sure how to plan this out. she sed that we can do whatever i want to do but i also want to do stuff that a 45 year old woman would like to do. r there any suggestions?

If you can afford the tickets, how about going to see Cirque. It's a great show that both adults and teens love.

Try a massage at the spa at the Grand Floridian.

Have a nice dinner at one of the restaurants in Epcot--you have to eat anyway.

Go through a guide book and have her pick out some of the attractions she is interested in doing. If they don't interest you, suck it up for a little and give it a try--you might like it.

Tour some of the resorts one afternoon. They're fun to just walk through.

Go to the Adventurer's Club in PI. This is one of the places I didn't appreciate as a teen because I didn't wait long enough to see a show. When I went back a few years later I really regretted my "rush to judgment" a few years earlier.

I think it's great you are willing to go with your mom. When you get older and your mom isn't around anymore you'll look back on this trip as a special time for both of you. I also think you have the right attitude by being willing to do things she wants.

Have a great trip.

thank you very very much for your input. i was stumped. those are all great ideas and ill look farther into all of them. :)

What, is 45 old???

Seriously -I'm nearing 45 myself....and I like to do most EVERYTHING at WDW. I do have a 4 yo - so spend an inordinate amount of time in Fantasyland and Buzz Lightyear - but when left to my own - I tend to avoid those rides (more so because I've done them ad nauseum) and go on the "Big Kids" rides - Probably the same sort of rides that you like.

I do find that I appreciate air-conditioning ALOT more now that I'm older - as well as food other than Burgers and French Fries. So - I would get Mom to look in a guide book (borrow one from the local library) or internet and see what she would like to do! Maybe a sit-down restaurant or 2 as opposed to all counter service meals?

Maybe break up your day with shows so she can put her feet up (Lion King, Tarzan Rocks, Mickey Philharmagic, Honey I shrunk the Audience...) - You might try to keep the "running -from - one end- of -the-park and back" down to a minimum - because I know I don't have the energy of an 18 yo (although I wish I did!!)- so plan the day in a more orderly fashion (or better yet - make a loose plan and wing it as you go).

I also appreciate the non-ride aspects of the parks alot more than I did when I was younger (the live entertainment)- so maybe go see some of the performers in Epcot (American Vybe is fantastic - and you could both probably relate to them, as well as "off Kilter" (men in Kilts - need I say more?)) _ Check out

i was thinking a lot about live shows. she likes that kind of stuff. thanx for the link.

I really don't mind just strolling around and people watching while my family (16, 18 and 19) ride the rides. It's kind of nice just to relax once in a while.

my moms like that 2. she waits for me when i go on splash mountain and stuff. but i wanna steer away from that partially cuz i want for us to do stuff that she would get a kick out of.

wont stop me from going on splash mountain 2x tho. :teeth:

neosnightmare,

First of all, you are very sweet to take your mom in place of your friends. I'll bet you made her feel really special offering that to her!:sunny:

My advice: Epcot!!!!

I too am nearing 45 and still enjoy rides but each trip Epcot is what I love. Pick a place and have a nice lunch or dinner (more atmosphere at night). I have really liked the sit down places in France, Japan, Morroco, UK, Canada, Mexico. Be sure to see the Living Statues in Italy, Off Kilter in Canada, Acrobats in China or mime in France, all wonderful!

Also, I really enjoyed the Millionaire Show, Philharmagic, Test Track, relaxing by the pool etc...

Have a great trip.

thank you and i think that when we go to epcot we are going to sit and relax around the UK. shes always looking for a good scone. ::yes::

Great idea! a yard of ale ... no no I mean tea and scones! LOL

I'm 30 and my mom is 61 (don't tell her I told you...) and I've been a Commando since the very beginning of my WDW obsession. Mom and I have been to the parks together 3 seperate times, just the 2 of us. It's a great time to get away from the stuff at home and just be together as a family. I found that my mom LOVED the live shows-- especially Festival of The Lion King at Animal Kingdom. In fact, we saw it 3 times while we were there, and she said she thought it was better than the Broadway production!

Also, me and mom love to shop, so we made plenty of time for that, at Epcot and DTD. (We also enjoy a good glass of wine, so we sampled wine in different countries, but I think you may be too young for that!) Other than that, she would wait in line with me on the 'big' rides and then take the chicken exit and meet me out front, so I wouldn't have to wait alone, and she wouldn't have to wait in the hot sun.

Just have fun and remember to really cherish the Disney time with your mom, because long after she's gone, Disney will be there, and you can go back and say, I remember when Mom and I got soaked on kali River Rapids... (that happened to me!) Have a great time!:earsboy:

I am pushing 45 myself! My daughter and I am heading to WDW the middle of May. Just the two of us and I PLANNED it. We've done this before and had a blast. I allow her to make some decisions and she knows I have things I like to see and do as well.

If your mo hasn't been to WDW before she is sure to love it. Who wouldn't especially sharing it with you!

My suggestion is not to listen when people say "don't" do something. We have found that we have enjoyed several of those attractions. Also, eat a decent meal each day. Sounds simple enough but sometimes you get carried away and end up eating way too much junk food.

Enjoy your time alone with mom. You're both lucky to have each other.

You will have a wonderful time with your mum with lots of memories, but beware, as you may create a monster!! Last year I took my DD to DLParis. I was just turned 50 and DD was 14. Because there was nobody else to go on the rides with her it had to be me. Until then I had never been on anything fast or high and I was SOOO scared when I got into the car at Space Mountain. I even asked the CM if there had been any fatalities (she said in her French accent and with a perfectly straight face, "only about six") I hated that first ride but DD persuaded me to go on again and I began to enjoy it. I even kept my eyes open and shouted 'whoo-hoo'. Then I discovered the R'nR Coaster and a true 'white knuckle' addict was born. I came home with a sore neck from overdoing it - but it was worth it and now I can't wait for July when I'm going to do everything at WDW and Universal. We've been 3 times before and I waited at the exit with the bags, so I have a lot of time to make up for!

I really wish for you that this trip with your mum is terrific - and get her to practise shouting 'whoohoo'!

I'm about the same age as your mom, and here are some of my favorite things to do at WDW:

Tower of Terror
RockNRollerCoaster (over and over and over...)
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Wandering the trails in Africa and Asia
Stopping to watch or listen when a performer pops up somewhere
Wander around eating Dole Whips
Tomorrowland Transit Authority
Buzz Lightyear's space Ranger Spin
The Lion King show at AK
Watching fireworks and parades (but not if I have to wait long for a spot)
The Great Movie Ride
the Indy Stunt Show
Pirates of the Caribbean
Jungle Cruise
Wandering the shops to escape the afternoon heat.
Trying lots of different restaurants
Mickey's Philharmagic
It's Tough to be a Bug
Catching an Off Kilter show at Epcot
Catching lots of different World Showcase performances... (chinese acrobats, japanese drummers, moroccan rockers...)
Ordering Room Service breakfast after an exhausting day

I'm 43, and I probably act like a kid at WDW. You and your mom should have a wonderful time!

I am 42 years old and enjoy all of the attractions at WDW, and have never met a roller coaster I didn't love. Contrary to popular belief, life begins at 40, and we don't want to be treated like we have one foot in the grave. Do what you want, your mom will have a great time! She may even surprise you!

Wow, what a wonderful opportunity for the two of you! I was feeling very old there for a while, as I am a few years older than your mom. But I may "out-commando" my kids - DS15 and DD20. You may find that your "younger outlook" will be contagious to your mother. When I am with my kids, I do everything they want to do - they make me feel as young as they are! I don't know if it was mentioned already, but we want to catch the comedy club at Pleasure Island. You'll have a great time!

from what ive heard around here, the comedy club is a must. it should also go over well since last time we were in FL, we went to 1 and we had an awesome time. :)

Look into making a PS for the tea at the Grand Floridian (esp if she really does like some good scones). I took my mom there last week and we both thought it was great time, a nice relaxing atmosphere with some good food. A good mother - daughter activity.
