Small financial victory

A few years ago, I was young and stupid and raked up quite a bit of credit card debt. So three years ago I signed up with a program to help pay them off and have not accumulated anymore credit card debt since then.

Well as of today, I have paid off 4 of the 7 cards that were on the program!!!! It feels like such a huge accomplishment to me as when I started the program I could not see an end at all. Hopefully I will be getting a better job soon ( I work a few days a week as a nanny but am looking for a steadier job and have an interview next week) and can knock those other three out in no time.

I just wanted to share with people who understand.

Quite an accomplishment. I went thru it, a long time ago, when they gave credit cards to any of the freshmen at my college who asked. I didnt even have a job and they gave me one. CRASHED AND BURNED!!!

Learned my lesson at a young age - and never had a problem again-

May I ask what program you used and were you happy with it? I am SO afraid of scams and ending up paying way more than I would have. I know there are so many options out there, but it is really hard to weed out what is legit and what is not!

Congrats! I'm really happy for you that you seemed to find a program that wasn't a scam too- my sister signed up for one of those. It seemed completely legit. They were advising her and took her money for a year before coming back and saying that she wasn't eligible for the program... and they kept all of her money! Cost her thousands of dollars while she was already in way over her head. Apparently if they can't settle with the credit card they are allowed to keep all of the money for fees.

Congrats to you! That is a huge accomplishment!
My mom used to work for a credit counseling place. They didnt charge a fee for their services and she helped many people get out of debt. The name of the one she worked for was Consumer Credit Counseling Services. Im not sure if they are still around or not.

I have been using Careone Credit. They have been awesome. My bank recommended them and they have bee great to work with. They do charge a small fee but to me it is worth it to pay someone once a month to cover everything. They are also great about any issues that pop-up and keep in contact with you through e-mail regualarly.

I was skeptic at first but since I still get the bills from the credit companies and could physically see that they were sending the money and that my balances were going down.

That is actually a huge victory. Don't sell yourself short because all of the programs in the world won't work unless you do what you have to.

What a great feeling, huh? DH is done (it's been over a year) and I have less than 2 yrs to go.
