Small contract confusion

Ok, I am kind of confused so maybe someone can help me out. The release date of VGF has everyone really excited. (I'm personally not interested, but that's off topic). I am seeing a lot of people mention they want to get a 50 point contract there so they have the 11 month booking window. How does that work? Say I have my 150 SSR points and 50 VGF points, how can I book a stay for more than 50 points there, without borrowing? The way I have read, that the 150 SSR points would not qualify for the 11 month window, but have to wait for the 7 month window. What is the benefit of the 50 points? Are points taken at the time of booking, or once you actually stay? I am only asking because if down the road we ever wanted to add on a resort, I want to know how the small contracts work. Thanks in advance!

This is so funny that you asked this question. As I wondering this myself. What is the point of owning 50 GFV points? How does one plan to utilize them?

You can only use the 50 VGF points at VGF at 11 months. You can bank and borrow to maybe have 150 available.

Ok so then you basically have 16.5 years at the resort out of 50 if you are planning to use 3 years in one shot. But then you wouldn't be able to stay there for a full week unless it was adventure or choice season. I guess it's a good idea for some people. But definitely not for me.

I've been looking for a small contract at another DVC resort (currently a BWV owner) so that I can bank or borrow every other year for a short trip. I will only stay in studios and have been thinking about getting a 50 point contract at VGF since the price is lower than I expected. I've been looking at VWL, but small contracts there are very difficult to find and grab on the resale market -- and now they are going for around $80+/point for those small contracts. I'm also in my late 20s, so having a contract that goes past 2042 is very enticing.

I would have to agree.

Maybe they don't care to stay for a week or maybe they like split stays or maybe they don't know how home resorts points work. :goodvibes

I recommend that you stay at a resort before buying.

At BLT DVD actually offered a better price with incentives 9 months after they offered the "special" opening price to members. BLT started selling almost a year before it opened. VGF is suppose to open the end of October but they have a long way to go based on what I saw earlier this month.

Aren't incentives typically for purchases of 100+ points? I'm not looking to buy that many points.

Not everyone goes for a week at a time! We live in Florida and go for weekends all year round. For 40-48 points, we can stay in a VGF studio for a weekend in December or January. If we bank or borrow one year's points, we can get a 1BR for that weekend for 80-96 points. If we bank AND borrow, we can get a VGF studio for a whole week in Dream Season, and book it at 11 months before all 100 rooms are gone. That's the point of small contracts.

Yup that's us, #1 & 2. We own at BWV & AKV, and soon VGF. If we stay at BWV the whole time, we'd never make it to MK (bus takes too long) or we'd leave before the electrical parade & fireworks. The kids love MK, so we started staying at one of the MK resorts 2 or 3 days, then move to Epcot. 50pts at VGF would be just enough.

Planning to add more points at BLT resale for long weekend trips.

We live out of state. With the cost of airfare, we couldn't make frequent weekend trips. We have to go for a week at a time, or at least 5 nights. So in that case, small contracts would not be the most beneficial I am assuming. Is it a pain resort hoping during a trip? Maybe if it were just myself and husband, but with my 6 and 7 year olds, I'm thinking that would be a hassle. ??

We visit WDW around once every 3 years so depending on points chart 50-60 points could buy us 3 nights at 11 months in a 1 bedroom with borrowing and banking. 3 nights is enough for us to stay at a monorail resort and we would spend the rest of our time at AKV. I am very tempted to buy 50ish.

DH and I like to unpack completely and settle in so we don't usually resort hop. We did it twice, both times to check out a different resort for a couple of nights at the start of our trip. We lived out of our suitcases for those two nights, then moved to another resort for four or five more nights.

You end up with no home from 11am until 4pm on your transition day so you have to plan for that. You can opt to spend the day in a park for example. We had a car so we took our things to the new resort and stored them with Bell Services until our room was ready. If you don't have a car you can give your bags (and even your groceries, which you have to pack up as well) to Bell Services at resort #1 and they will move them to resort #2 for you. Your bags will arrive at your next resort sometime in the late afternoon.

I have 2 little kids ages 2 and 5 and I love to resort hop. My upcoming trip is a lot of resort hopping. And half of the trip is without my hubby! I am nuts lol. 3 nights at POR, 2 nights at AoA, 1 night at BWV, 1 night at BLT, 3 nights at BWV. The trick is to live out of your suitcase.

For us, it's the lesser of the two undesirables. My kids are 4 & 1. Taking the bus to MK from BWV is just not worth it. And the monorail takes just as long! Plus it's easier to take an afternoon nap in the hotel.

Switching rooms is easier. We usually pick that day to go to AK. Or spend the day at the pool in the next resort. We don't usually have a car so I'll pack a backpack with extra clothes and the rest of the luggage gets sent over.

The other thing (which I have not heard anyone talk about) is with 2 little ones, the rooms get pretty messy. They throw the coasters around, pull out the papers from checkin, pillows and linen all over the place, etc. You get trash service on day 4, and a full cleaning on day 8? Switching resorts gets you a nice fresh room. ;)

Wow! You're brave. We try to limit it to 2 resorts per week. You could probably carry what you need with you to BLT and leave the rest at BWV. Then when you go back for your final 3 nights, you don't have to wait for luggage.

Other way around. If you stay at least eight nights, you get a full cleaning on day four and trash and towel service on day eight.

The way someone can do it, that would be 16 visits at that particular resort. Then there is 12 visits at another resort, and 14 visits at another, and so on. This way, they can book in advance and not have to bounce around due to availability, rather just a planned split stay (one Epcot resort, one MK) if they want. It allows for varying resort vacations.
