Another vote for both! The compact doesn't really add too much to the luggage, so make room for the DSLR and bring the compact along.
I tend to pick either a day, or some times during a few days, to bring the DSLR and make it my photo time - just take it slow and look at all the details. Then, if I'm in the park to have fun, ride rides, and hang with family or friends, I bring the compact along - I can still get cool shots if I see them, take fun snaps, and never find myself without a camera when something good goes down - but don't have to worry about carrying the extra weight or bothering the fam by always wanting to stop and set up for a special shot.
Believe me, you'll find that some of your best shots may actually come from the compact...the DSLR is much more capable, and you can use that to really set up for beautiful, well composed artistic shots...but every once in a while you catch a great spontaneous or fleeting moment with the compact that you otherwise might have missed, and it will forever justify why you brought both cams.
